What we doWe use electric fields to structure and align particles in a polymer matrix and fix the structures by curing the matrix.
Our main focus is anisotropic conductive materials.
Possibilities for more advanced use of the technology.» Anisotropic materials» Advanced thermal materials» Sensors» Porous membranes» Transparent conductors» Mechanical reinforcements» Structured nanocomposites

Benefits of the technologySignificant reduction in amount of filler particles
» Lower costs of materials» Retaining polymer properties (e.g. flexibility, stickiness)
Can control particle structures through electric fields» Anisotropy / higher uniformity / patterns
Wide range of materials possible» Sticky / flexible / hard / soft / transparent films» Conductivity can be tuned by the type of conductive particles
Can be implemented in a variety of process technology» Roll to roll production is cheap and fast» The process may be introduced to existing production lines

Projects and Applications
Two types of medical electrodes» Monitoring‐electrodes (IFU project)» Electrical nerve stimulation (IFU pre‐project)
Thermal conductive material» For use in high‐end power applications

Working with Innovation Norway
CondAlign cooperation with IN» IFU (main) project» IFU pre‐project (on another topic)» IPR (patent) advice» Overseas offices (Japan)

Henrik Hemmen 26.02.2015
IFU (main) projectCosts
» 8MNOK total project costs» 2.7MNOK from IN» 30% from partner/“demanding customer”
Challenges» 3‐way contract; our partner has two roles
Cooperating partner vs. IN Also a (coming) customer to us
» Partner has more time and resources
Advice» Keep the development agreement minimalistic» Don’t run faster than your partner
23
Henrik Hemmen 26.02.2015
IFU pre‐projectCosts
» 800kNOK total project costs» 400kNOK from IN
Challenges» It is a fine line between what a (pre‐)project can and
cannot include
Advice» Define the (pre‐)project to meet the requirements» Prepare background information from the start
The questions will come..

Versatile technologyDemonstrated parameters so far:
» Film Thickness: 10µm – 1mm» Particle size: “nano” – 135µm» Chain density: 13 000 per mm2 – 500 per mm2
» Resistance: < 0.1 Ω per 1cm2 ‐MΩ» Filling fraction: 0.1% – to 30% per volume» Conductive material: Metals – Alloys – Nanotubes – Carbon» Matrix: Polyurethane – Acrylics – Silicon –
Epoxy» Film properties: Hard – Flexible – Stretchable –
Sticky – Transparent
Further optimization possible

Production
Continuous production has been demonstrated on our pilot roll‐to‐roll machine (R2R).
Further scale‐up to high volume production mostly an engineering issue.
The technology opens for other production techniques, e.g. extrusion, but this has not been explored by CondAlign.
