Wow, what a Great month May was. We don't know about anyone else but Ruthie and I had a lot of fun in May. For those of you that were unable to make it to the Arkansas District Rally in Hot Springs, well, all we can say is you really missed out on a GREAT TIME. It is al- ways such a pleasure to be able to visit with our GWRRA Family members who we do not get to see that often. We can't wait until next years rally. Ruthie and I are so excited for our trip to Wing Ding that we can hardly wait. We are sorry we were unable to attend May's Chapter meeting, but we felt it was just a little important to attend our youngest child's High School Graduation, the youngest of six. How empty is our house going to be. I guess that means more bike riding time. We look forward to seeing everyone at June's Chapter meeting. Until then. Ride Safe, Ride Often. Eight Chapter B members rode to Bull Shores Park on May 5th to attend Chapter P’s rally. We had perfect riding weather over and back and plenty of time to visit with the other 90 Goldwingers from across the state who made the trip. Attending from Chapter B were: Ed and Judy Schreck, Carl and Gay Wampler, Nova and Connie Brandon and Gene and Barbara Ren-ken. How about you sign up for one of the upcom-ing rides and join the fun.

Our planned Memorial Day picnic with

Don and Pam turned into lunch at Atlanta

Bread Company while we waited for

“scattered storms” to pass. Once we de-

cided it was clear to leave for home the skies to the northwest were pretty dark so

we decided to head east to try and go

around the storm. Don and Pam went east

on 12, we took 62 northeast then 72 west to Pea

Ridge. As we turned north on 94 we could see

the rain ahead of us so we turned southwest on

McNelly Road. Here we were driving on wet

roads but only a few sprinkles still falling. When we got to 71, there was still rain to the north so

we turned south, back into Bentonville then west

again on 72 to Hiwasse and into Bella Vista on

Hiwasse Road.

Arrival at Hot Springs: Mike and Ruthie really stand out in their new summer riding jack-ets but someone must ask Mike to explain the police car.

HA! HA!- NO we did not make it home with no rain. We got dumped on. Mike got shocked by lightening at a stop light. It killed the bike and knocked his hand off of the clutch grip. Need-less to say, we ran the next stop light (we were the only ones at that light, thank goodness). We got into Lowell and stopped at the Kum and Go and parked under the awning. We shed our jackets and went inside and got some coffee and let Mike try to regroup from his electrifying experience. The woman wouldn't even let us pay for our coffee. Sure don't want to go through that again. We had two different couples stop and admire our Wing. Can joke about it now but wasn't much fun at the time. Ruthie

We made it home, safe and sound, just not dry. After we left the Whole Hog Café we went to Best Motors. We left there as quickly as we could and made it almost back to 102 before the flood hit. We found a Super 8 and pulled under their awning and went inside to wait it out. We were soaked though.

We left the bike at the body shop and brought the car on home. Don

My rain experience was not Friday night, but last Saturday the 26th, I left the gun show at the Clarion on rainbow curve about 3:30 and it was dry. Turning south at the J street light I managed to ride into worst thunderstorm ever. Out of habit, I put on my sunglasses and rode off. I'm guessing there were 200 bikes (I think from a poker run) parked in the lot approx 1/2 mile east of the Clarion. As I approached from the west, they began com-ing out of the lot by the dozens in a big hurry. I was able, with a little luck, to ride into and with the thunderstorm into Rogers on New Hope Road. After the fact, I believe if I had just sat still at the Clarion about 20 minutes, the thunderstorm would have gone to the north and missed me. I kept my rain gear in the saddle bag so as not to get them wet! I'm not saying it was raining hard, but water was 3 or more inches deep on the roadway in many low spots. Oh well, I dried out. Bob

Missouri District Rally On May 5, 2007, Mike & Ruthie with Dora & myself rode to the Missouri District Rally in Branson. I introduced Mike & Ruthie to John & Kathie (the couple that put the lights on my trike). Mike & Ruthie bought jackets, Dora & I ordered jackets. The only excitement was when my feet went higher than my head. After that, we left and ate at Shogun’s. A Good time was had by all. George.

A Word from the District Director

Arkansas District Directors [email protected] Dale & Carolyn Frieden www.argwrra.org 10647 Cowger Lane Phone: 479-229-3370 Dardanelle, Arkansas 72834 The District Rally is behind us and now your staff can reflect on the experience with the pur-

pose of determining how we can make it better for you in 2008. We appreciate all the surveys

the attendees took time to complete; your answers will be taken into consideration when mak-

ing decisions for next year.

We appreciate the support from those of you in attendance and have a request. If you had a

good time let the other members participating in your Chapter know about it and ask them to join in the fun next year. If you didn’t have a good time, let us know so we can make it better

for you in the future.

We also, want to thank each of you that assisted us in the various activities over the weekend. It

would be impossible to put on a rally without the assistance of the Chapters within the District.

We really appreciate the assistance you provided.

There are a lot of Chapter Rallies planned over the next few months and we would like to re-

mind you the roads in Arkansas run both directions. If you want other Chapters to support you,

then you need to support them at their activities.

For those of you planning longer trips this summer to other District Rallies, Honda Hoot, Wing

Ding, etc. be sure to give you bikes a good inspection of those items such as tires, brakes, trailer hitch, wheels & bearings etc. that can cause you to find yourself in an unsafe situation.

We don’t want anyone to have their trip ruined by something they could have prevented.

Until next time, ride safe and “Ride With Pride”.
