The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community, one
Church of many peoples, exists to praise and honor
God, to embrace the dignity of every person, to grow
together spiritually, and to witness to the Good
News of Jesus Christ in Redlands, California. We chal-
lenge ourselves to deepen our unity as we move
forward toward the vision of a new place of worship.

All of you who like to fish have experienced
“the one that got away.” This was the fish that
broke the line, bent the hook or simply fell off
the hook. We can still feel the excitement and
the disappointment of that moment.
Today’s Gospel could be en tled, “The Man Who Got Away”. It
was a case of the old double standard, blaming the woman and
le ng the man off the hook. Blaming others for our own sins
goes back to the dawn of history when Adam blamed Eve for his
ea ng the apple. “She gave me the fruit from the tree, and so I
ate it.” In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us that we are ALL responsible
not only for our sins but for crea ng the environment which
makes it easier for others to sin. In the case of the Gospel, holding
only the woman accountable makes it easy for men to sin.
Taking responsibility for one’s life means admi ng and owning
the sins that I have commi ed and not blaming others for my
chosen misfortunes. The woman of the Gospel was part of a
game, which men have often played in history. The game is that
all responsibility falls to the woman, making it always her fault.
Even today we hear li le about the father but much about the
unwed mother. One might say that we haven’t come too far from
the double standard of New Testament Times. Jesus makes the
point quite clear. We are all part of the problem and must
shoulder our responsibility. There can be no throwing of rocks
on our part; rather, there needs to be an honest evalua on and
acceptance of our own sin and the ways we contribute to the
sins of others. At that point the sins of others won’t seem so
overwhelming and unforgivable. Condemna on of others will
cease and we will be able to find a new peace, hearing the
words of Jesus, “Nor do I condemn you.”
God be with you on the Journey,
Deacon Steve
mucha claridad. Todos somos parte del problema y debe-
mos cargar nuestra responsabilidad. No podemos arrojar
bles.

A few weeks ago, Deacon Steve shared
about our preliminary CUP mee ng
with the City of Redlands and the studies
required before mee ng with the City’s
Planning Council. One of the items we
reviewed again is our facility usage. Do
you know how many classes, trainings, rehearsals, ministry
mee ngs or projects take place each week?
Each week, over 700 children a end classes to learn
about Jesus and the Catholic faith. In addi on to the
kids, TEENS and ADULTS use an average of 11 meeting
spaces every day/evening weekly.
Today, we number 3,433 registered parish families…
that’s over 10,100 people.
By the me children born in 2017 graduate from high
school, our parish will include 5,146 families… that’s over
15,000 people.
To meet our growing needs, we have planned:
1 hall with 13 more expandable meeting rooms;
1 music rehearsal room;
1 youth center with hall, 4 classrooms, & restrooms;
1 parish school with 18 classrooms and STREAM Lab;
1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd room (double in size);
512 parking spaces.
Our vision is building a place for Whole Family Catechesis.
This means that Holy Name of Jesus ADULTS will be able
to a end prayer services, adult classes or workshops,
ministry mee ngs, music rehearsals, and par cipate in
service ac vi es… on the SAME EVENING as our children
and teens attend Faith Formation or Confirmation classes,
Youth groups and ac vi es... with parking to spare.
We hope to put a spade in the ground around this me
next year. But, it is the vision of the complete campus —
not the spade in the ground — that inspires us to share
our plans with donors who have the capacity to make a
significant gi to make this vision a reality.
Building enables us to create space for souls to encounter
Christ, to support family life, and impact lives with hope.
Building furthers the mission of Christ and His Church.

1 grande salón con 13 salas de reuniones más ampliables;
1 cuarto de ensayo de música;
1 centro juvenil con salón, 4 cuartos y baños;
1 escuela parroquial con 18 aulas y STREAM Laboratorio;
1 salón de la Catequesis del Buen Pastor (doble en tamaño);
¡Únete a nosotros! Sharon Callon-Schwartz Directora del Desarrollo de Misión FIRST

to do so because they were previously married and divorced, and they are
now living with someone else but not married in the Church.
You can help. Become an Annulment Advocate.
Annulment advocates are lay people who accompany people through the
process of presen ng a pe on for nullity. They devote me to meet
with people, to listen well, ask direct and difficult ques ons, and hold
