la gracia de Dios que es

abundante y de su amor sin fin; así es el

Espíritu de Dios en nuestras vidas. También hay otra forma

de ver el Evangelio hoy:

Mahatma Gandhi dijo una vez: "Hay suficiente para las nece-

sidades de todos pero no para la codicia de todos". Este es

realmente un pensamiento aleccionador. Los cien ficos,

también, nos dicen que, a pesar del hambre y la hambruna en

el mundo, realmente hay suficiente para todos. El problema

no radica en "tener" recursos sino en la voluntad de compar-

rlos y distribuirlos. El Evangelio de hoy retoma este tema de

la escasez y la abundancia. La escasez radica en la pobreza

aparente de los recursos humanos y la abundancia en las

bendiciones.

Una observación ligera muestra una abundancia de cosas que

existen en la creación, desde miles de millones de estrellas

hasta las grandes variedades de plantas, animales y seres

humanos. La creación rebosa de la mano de Dios. Jesús señala

esto también en el Evangelio de Mateo: "Fíjense en las aves

del cielo y los lirios del campo..." En el milagro de los panes y

los peces, los discípulos creen que carecen de los recursos

necesarios para alimentar a la gran mul tud. Un niño ene

sus recursos: cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados. "¿De

qué sirven estos para tantos?", dicen los discípulos. Lo que

no han podido apreciar es que Jesús está con ellos. Él es la

abundancia de Dios derramada para la vida del mundo. Esta

historia del Evangelio es realmente sobre dar generosamente

y luego confiar en el poder de Dios para transformar nuestros

recursos limitados y marcar una gran diferencia para el mundo.

¿Cuántas veces esto ha resultado ser cierto en nuestras

vidas? Dios ha escuchado nuestras oraciones en momentos

de crisis. Los extraños han sido generosos y amables. Algo

salió bien cuando parecía que no había una esperanza razo-

nable. De alguna manera en estos momentos, la mano de

Dios estuvo sobre nosotros.

Hoy estamos invitados a ser generosos con lo que tenemos

y a creer que, con la ayuda de Dios, será suficiente. Se trata

de compar r nuestros oídos, nuestros corazones, nuestras

manos y nuestras oraciones con aquellos que pasan por

nuestras vidas. Se trata de ser generosos en la colecta domi-

nical. Se trata de ver a los necesitados y ayudarlos. Se trata

de hacer un gran sacrificio y ayudar a construir una nueva

iglesia para esta comunidad para las generaciones futuras.

Se trata de confiar en Dios en la oscuridad de la vida y

reconocer que cuando nos unimos a Él y hacemos nuestra

parte, Él hace que sea más que suficiente. Porque así

como Jesús transformó cinco panes y dos pescados en un

banquete que alimentó a una mul tud, también lo hace a

través de nuestras limitaciones humanas para lograr su obra

en la erra.

¡Vayan y glorifiquen al Señor con sus vidas!

Today’s Gospel is ul mately

about Eucharist. It is also about

God’s grace which is abundant

and his love unending; so is the

Spirit of God in our lives. There

is another way of looking at the Gospel today as well:

Mahatma Gandhi said, “There is enough for everyone’s

need but not for everyone’s greed”. This is truly a sobering

thought. Scien sts, too, tell us that despite the hunger and

starva on in the world, there is enough for everyone. The

problem lies not in the ‘having’ of resources but in the will-

ingness to share and distribute them. Today’s Gospel picks

up on this theme of scarcity and abundance. The scarcity

lies in the apparent poverty of human resources and the

abundance in the blessings.

Quick observance shows an abundance of things exis ng in

crea on - from billions of stars, to the great varie es of

plants, animals and human beings. Crea on teems at the

hand of God. Jesus points this out in Ma hew’s Gospel as

well: “Look at the birds of the air and the lilies of the

field…” In the miracle of the loaves and fishes, the disciples

believe they lack the resources needed to feed the large

crowd. A li le boy has their resources: five barley loaves

and two fish. “What good are these for so many?” they say.

What they have failed to appreciate is that Jesus is with

them. He is the abundance of God poured out for the life of

the world. This Gospel story is really about generously giving

and then relying on the power of God to transform our lim-

ited gi s to make a huge difference for the world. How

many mes has this proved true in our lives? Prayers have

been answered in crises. Strangers have been generous and

kind. Something worked out when there seemed no reason-

able hope. Somehow in these moments, the hand of God

was upon us.

Today we are invited to be generous with what we have and

believe that, with God’s help, it will be enough. It is about

sharing our ears, our hearts, our hands, and our prayers

with those who pass through our lives. It is about being

generous in the Sunday collec on. It is about seeing those in

need and helping them. It is about making a huge sacrifice

and assis ng in building a new church for this community

for future generations. It is about trusting God in the dark-

ness of life and recognizing that when we unite ourselves

to Him and do our part, He will make it more than enough.

For just as Jesus transformed five loaves and two fish into a

banquet that fed a mul tude, so does He work through our

human limita ons to accomplish His work on earth.  

Go forth and glorify the Lord with your life,

parishioners as part of their 3-year planning process.

Thank you for sharing your passion for our parish! Each

week, we will address survey concerns for our parish com-

munity here.

Parking – More parking and more lighting in the parking lots. 

Did you know that together, the Olive and Columbia

sites comprise a total of 185 parking spaces?

Most parishioners park on the streets today. Although we

use the Academy’s field for holiday parking, weekly park-

ing use will wear down the field and running track, and

significantly increase our costs. Academy students, Youth

and Faith Formation use the field regularly. Paving the

Academy field is not a viable op on.

Neither parish site can expand to increase parking; however,

our new campus includes 521 parking spaces with a FIFA

regulation-size soccer field for holiday overflow (and Fiesta

rides).

We are looking into ligh ng solu ons to improve safety

and security at both parish sites. We will keep you updated.

como parte de un proceso de planeación de 3 años. ¡Gracias por

abordaremos las inquietudes para nuestra comunidad parroquial

Estacionamiento – Más  estacionamiento  y mejor  alumbrado 

  en los estacionamientos. 

¿Sabían que, juntas las localidades de Olive y Columbia

cuentan con 185 espacios de estacionamiento?

En la actualidad la mayoría de los feligreses se estacionan en la

calle. Aunque usamos el campo de la Academia como esta-

cionamiento en los días fes vos, si se usara semanalmente

desgastaría el césped y la pista de atle smo, y esto incremen-

taría considerablemente nuestros costos. Los alumnos de la

Academia, los jóvenes y el ministerio de formación en la fe

usan el área verde con regularidad. Pavimentar el campo de

la Academia no es una opción.

Ninguna de las localidades puede extender su terreno para

aumentar los espacios de estacionamiento. Sin embargo, nues-

tra nueva localidad incluye 521 espacios de estacionamiento

además de una cancha de soccer que cumple las regulaciones

de la FIFA y que podremos usar como estacionamiento adicio-

nal en los días festivos, (¡y atracciones durante la Fiesta!).

Estamos buscando soluciones de iluminación para mejorar la

seguridad en ambos sitios parroquiales. Le mantendremos

also in our everyday interac ons. If every breath

we take belongs to God, then our interac ons

with people have the poten al of bringing

someone closer to the source of that breath.

a simple opportunity to raise the mundane to 

a level where God can be no ced. This is the

heart of real hospitality.

A NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for caring and compassionate individuals to

further enhance our Bereavement Ministry.

We have a vision of sending Bereavement Home Volunteers,

in pairs, to homes and families who have experienced a death

in the family. These volunteers will be trained on what to say

and what not to say, and will be trained in the subtle art of

listening and just being present to those who are grieving.

We foresee these volunteers visi ng and following up with

families within 2-4 weeks of the funeral services. This is a

ministry that follows our Lord's command to comfort those

who mourn. It also fulfills 2 of the Spiritual Works of Mercy:

1) To comfort the afflicted (those afflicted with grief), and

2) To pray for and to bury the dead (a con nua on of the

Funeral Celebra on Mass).

Esta semana señala el comienzo de una especie de “desvío litúrgico”. Hemos estado escuchando el Evangelio según san Marcos durante este año litúrgico (Ciclo B). Hoy comenzamos a escuchar una larga sección del Evangelio según san Juan   que empieza con el milagro de la mul plicación de los panes y peces. Este milagro es un preludio de las declaraciones del Señor, que comenzaremos a escuchar en algunas semanas, en las que Jesús se llama a sí mismo el “Pan de Vida”. Cada semana somos tes gos de un milagro en la Misa. No vemos la mul plicación de panes. Lo que vemos con los ojos de la fe es el milagro de la transformación de elementos comunes, pan y vino, en el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor. Una vez que hemos recibido al Señor, comienza la mul plicación, porque en la Eucaris a se nos fortalece para mul plicar nuestros esfuerzos por alimentar a los pobres, darles refugio a los que no enen hogar y brindarles consuelo a los afligidos. Are you interested about the Catholic faith, but not sure if Catholicism is for you? Consider coming to RCIA - the process of Christian Initiation.

The RCIA process takes about seven months of discernment, studying, asking questions and counseling, and concludes with the reception of the Sacraments during the Easter season. We begin in September.

Are you a baptized Catholic who has not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation? Consider attending Adult Classes.

The Adult Confirmation program consists of 12 classes, two of which are online. We offer two opportunities for you to start classes: September or January. Register online: theholynameofjesus.org/confirmation
