Frontier Communications Corporation Invests $2.5 Million In DeLand, Florida, Operations Center
Former DeLand Area Chamber Board of Director and Senior Vice President & General Manager of Frontier Secure, Kelly Morgan, said, “Frontier has approached its tenth year doing business in Florida, and we owe that in large part to our partners from the state, county and local community . Florida also offers the talent we depend on to drive our 100% U .S .-based operations with the right technical capabilities . This expansion will provide us the additional capacity that we need to service our growing strategic partnership business .”The Frontier expansion was made possible through partnerships between Enterprise Florida, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Career-Source Florida, CareerSource Flagler Volusia, Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation, the City of DeLand and Volusia County . The company is expected to create 400 jobs in The Sunshine State . The expansion will also include a capital investment of approximately $2 .5 million for Volusia County .
“Our City is pleased to have assisted in Frontier’s job growth and facility expansions and we look forward to continuing DeLand’s highly successful relationship with this leader in the telecommunications industry,” said DeLand Mayor Bob Apgar .Former Chamber Board Member and Team Volusia Chair John Wanamaker added, “Team Volusia is excited to bring this new business unit to DeLand and Volusia County . It also is a great opportunity to work with Jones Lang Lasalle, one of the premier site selection firms in the country that worked as the site selection consultant on this project . Frontier’s selection of DeLand for the new business unit is a testament to the quality of the workforce that exists in DeLand and Volusia County .”
DeLand Chamber Lunch Featuring “Farm-to-Table” Panel Draws Large Audience To Fairgrounds
The DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance’s Business August 2015 “West Volusia Means Business” luncheon featured four speakers involved in the local “Farm to Table” movement, which connects local farmers with area restaurants . The speakers included Hari Pu-lapaka, executive chef and co-owner of the Cress restaurant in downtown DeLand, Steve Crump, president of Vo-LaSalle Farms Inc ., Paul Tomazin of Tomazin Farms and David Griffis, director of the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences/Volusia County Extension . Chamber President Missy Chaves, an active advocate for the agriculture community . Chaves, who trains and actively competes in Arabian horse shows throughout the southeast says she learned from a young age to appreciate the value of supporting our local agricultural community . “Being in agriculture is not easy, yet this dedicated community of businessmen and women provides a $781 million economic impact to Volusia County and represents over 3% percent of our county’s entire economic activity . So it’s just good business to support our local agricultural community,” she added . Steve Crump, President of of Vo-LaSalle Farms, and a guest on the panel told the audience it was important to continue to encourage younger people to go into in the agriculture field .
Executive Chef Hari Pulapaka of Cress Restaurant in Downtown DeLand said that the “Farm –To-Table” Movement is important in helping highlight locally produced food and ingredients as well as creating new business opportunities between small farms and the community .

This month’s column is personal to me, as a girl growing up in the Agriculture
community with the love of horses I am still very active in it! I continue to train and compete in Arabian horse shows throughout the southeast. I learned from a young age to appreciate the value of supporting our local agricultural community. From the farmers who make their living growing produce, to the young FFA or 4H student raising live stock to go for auction to pay for their college, and the countless others who made their trades in the agricultural and farming livestock fields.
Today, our family home is on a beautiful stretch of land in the country. My husband a Business owner is mechanic that works on farm equipment in the Agriculture Community, and I in the banking industry work with the farmers every day with their business needs! Situations like this keeps

everyone in business from the Ag community to the City where we all work together to be successful!
Every day I listen to the challenges our local farmer’s face just to keep their small farms alive, like state and federal regulations are just the beginning! Being in agriculture is not easy, yet this dedicated community of businessmen and women provides a $781 million economic impact to Volusia County and represents over 3% percent of our county’s entire economic activity. So it’s just good business to support our local agricultural community.
On Friday, October 9th our Females About Business Committee will be hosting their 3rd Annual Gala “Diamonds Are Forever - A FABulous Affair” event at the Wayne G. Sanborn Center from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. This extravaganza” pays tribute to the FABulous WOMEN of Bond, and will include specialty Martinis, Heavy Hors d’Oevres, Dancing, Prizes and more! All Monte Carlo casino gaming tables and slots in our Casino Royal benefit the FAB Scholarship foundation.
On Saturday October 10th, the DeLand Urban Crit Mountain Bike Race comes to town from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the Volusia County Courthouse Parking Garage and Grounds located at 101 N. Alabama Ave., DeLand. The urban crit is a great event for everybody and spectators have just as much fun as the racers! This fast-paced obstacle course race is hosted by the DeLand Chamber of Commerce Bicycling & Trails Committee.
On Saturday morning, October 17th we will be cleaning up various city playgrounds as part of our “Keep DeLand Beautiful Day” sponsored by our partners at Covidien and the City of DeLand. Approximately 200 volunteers participate in this event that was created to show pride in our community and will be staged this year at the Collective Church in Downtown DeLand.
