Repentance. Envy. Joy. Hope. Have you felt these
human emotions? Today's Gospel offers a rich story,
one we can all find our place in. As we reflect on our
own spiritual lives this Lenten season, it can be
helpful to imagine ourselves in the story of the
Prodigal Son. "I no longer deserve to be called your
son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired
workers." The younger son has sinned greatly,
betraying his father's trust and squandering his money in sin. Yet the parable turns on
his deep repentance and humble return to his father. Is there any area of your life you
have been wandering from God or you've squandered good gifts? This Lent, return to
the sacrament of Confession! God, a merciful Father, waits for you there. "While he
was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with
compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him." The father in the
parable sees his son's selfishness, perhaps even suspects what he might do, but gives
him the inheritance anyway. After his son's departure, the father waits with hope for
his son's eventual return. Has someone you love left the Church, made poor decisions,
or abused your trust? This Lent is a time to let go of bitterness and to live in hope.
Prepare your heart to be merciful! Not all in the parable invite the mercy of God into
their hearts. The self-righteous older brother dishonors his father with his pettiness.
"My son, you are here with me always, everything I have is yours." Do you covet
what others have? Do you feel as if you've been taken advantage of or that your work
goes unseen? This Lent is a time to grow in gratitude. Take a close look at the
blessings in our life that you might be missing.
On Wednesday, April 3, we will have our
monthly Eucharistic Adoration Day. The
Blessed Sacrament will be exposed from
9:00 am - 6:45 pm. This is a great opportunity
for us to spend some personal time with Our
Lord during this special day. Sometimes the
burdens of our lives can be so demanding that
the Lord asks us to let Him help us carry them.
Sign up sheets will be posted in the Narthex
with hours that will be open and in need of
volunteers.
“Jesus wants us all to come to Him in the Blessed Sacrament. He is there in person, just waiting for you. Nowhere on Earth are you more wel-come, nowhere on Earth are you more loved, than by Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.” - Mother Theresa

PASTORAL CARE AT NURSING
HOMES AND HOSPITALS
Traditionally, the Catholic Church divides geographic areas
into parishes with specific territories. Thus, each parish is re-
sponsible for the pastoral care of the Catholics living within
that territory (parish). That is also true of Catholics who reside
in nursing facilities within the parish. That means that the par-
ishes of our grouping (Saint Kilian and Holy Sepulcher) are
responsible for providing pastoral care for Catholic patients in
the following facilities: Valencia Woods and the Arbors at St.
Barnabus, St. John Specialty Care Center, Rosecrest Assisted
Living, Penn Mar Plaza, Concordia at Cranberry, Paramount
Senior Living, Cranberry Place, Colonial Gardens Nursing
Home, Shelbourne Nursing Home as well as Passavant Hospi-
tal Cranberry. This usually involves celebrating Mass and the
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in these institutions.
This is accomplished by the priests, deacons and a group of
dedicated volunteers. When parishioners are in other nursing
facilities, two things should be kept in mind: those facilities
have priests and deacons who are responsible for them. Re-
questing pastoral care from those priests is usually the best way
to be seen as soon as possible. The priests and deacons of our
parish would gladly visit if they are able but they are also re-
sponsible for the large number of facilities within our parishes.

SAVE THE DATE JUNE 24th-28th
On Friday, March 22nd the students in grades 2-4 attended a
STEM Field Trip at Fun Slides. Fun Slides is a carpet skate
park where the students not only had fun learning to skate but
also learned a great deal. Professor Slides presented the stu-
dents with a fun STEM Presentation. The students learned about
Newton’s Laws of Motion and Gravity as well as friction. Then
the volunteers came up and conducted experiments that showed
the information that was taught. After our STEM Presentation
was completed, the students went off into the skate park where
they used these lessons and had fun skating on ramps, playing
carpet hockey and dodgeball, and completing an obstacle
course. This was a not only a great learning experience for the
students, but also an awesome field trip.
