Welcome to Haddon and District Community House for 2013!

A very warm welcome back to returning and new students to the centre. We hope you will have a very hap-py new year and join us in some of our courses, activities and events in 2013! We are excited to have some great new certificate courses in hairdressing and beauty services available and training in computer applications or Myob. We hope to assist you in becoming job or study ready, or satisfy your personal study/career goals. Or maybe you just want to explore a new creative you with mosaics, card making or quilting or learn to relax or get fit with yoga and art/meditation classes. Whatever your re-quirement we look forward to being able to assist you in your quest! We are proud to offer a large range and variety of courses and activities. The quality of our trainers and tutors are the backbone of our high standards, reputa-tion and accomplishments by our stu-dents. We have dedicated and caring trainers and provide small class sizes en-abling you to benefit by more individual-ised training methods. Undertaking further education, even in latter life assists with self esteem and broadens horizons and assists to provide greater opportunities Learning is not only for job seekers but essential for our con-tinual need for self improvement. So take a look through our new first term program and book early as there are of-ten very limited numbers. And if there is a course you would like to see at the House just let us know and we will do our best to try to offer it in our fu-ture programs this year. HOW TO ENROL In person at the Community House office, 396

Sago Hill Road, Haddon. We take enrolments Tuesday to Friday between 10 am and 3.30 pm. By telephone on 5342 7050 By email: [email protected] Please note that your booking is not secured until full

payment is made or a suitable payment arrangement is made with the House Manager.

CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT Fees become due at the time of booking. Places will not

be held unless fees are paid or a deposit received and payment plan arranged.

Refunds cannot be given once a class has commenced or at least 5 business days notice is provided as we are committed to pay course costs.

Refunds will be given if the class is cancelled for any reason. Prospective students should be aware that some cours-

es/activities may not proceed if there are insufficient numbers to cover operational costs.

Concession rates apply where indicated and only on presentation of a current concession card.

Notification will be given only when classes are cancelled or rescheduled. Please assume that the course will pro-ceed unless otherwise notified. If you are concerned or have any queries, please contact the House.

Please talk to us about fees and payments if they cause any problems. We are committed to

equitable access for all and may be able to assist. People of all abilities are welcome at all

suitable programs. The Northern Community Centre is fully accessible.

The Haddon & District Community House aims to provide a range of educational, social and

recreational activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. While all effort is made to proceed with

advertised activities it is not always possible if enrolments do not generate the funds required to cover

the costs of tutors and room hire. Please note that business and corporate rates may

differ from the prices included in this program. Please check with the Manager for these rates.

APPLY FIRST AID CERTIFICATE

This course covers all the necessary skills & knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(ies), the incident & other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This unit incorporates the content of units HLTCPR201B Perform CPR and HLTFA201B Provide basic emergency life support. Min 10 students. DAY: Saturday (one day) DATE: March 16th TIME: 9 am - 4 pm FEES: $130.00 (book one week in advance)

FEES & CHARGES

Adult Education classes that are subsidised by Adult Community & Further Education are marked with the *. We are required to charge a student contribution consistent with Ministerial directions on Fees & Charges. Other fees are to assist us to pay for tutors, amenities and

all other costs involved in running courses. ACFE funding is for people with less than Year 12 qualifications, or people wanting to

re-enter the workforce.For further information please speak to the Manager.

ACCREDITED TRAINING AND JOB SKILLS

FOOD SAFETY LEVEL I CERTIFICATE

Accredited course fulfils the requirements for those needing this qualification for their workplace or for their role as a volunteer. Students successfully com-pleting this training will receive the nationally recog-nised certificate. Courses can be organised. DAY: Saturdays (or ask for other options) DATE: TBA (phone to book in-house training)TIME: 9.00 am - 4.30 pm FEES: $111.00(in-house cost per person)

ONLINE COURSE ~ course can be done online or by

correspondence delivered by registered training or-ganisation, “CFT International.” Please contact us to enrol. ONLINE COURSE ENROLMENTS ACCEPTED ANY TIME. Simply fill in the enrolment form and pay the fee. We will then email you a link to commence the course online. You need to call in to the Community House to enrol. CERTIFICATE II/lll IN HAIRDRESSING

This course is eligible for funding and interviews will be conducted in February to assist with eligibility. Covers the preferred minimum training requirements for salon employment and apprenticeships, and is a prerequisite training for Certificate III in Hairdressing. DAY: Being considered Fridays first term but other days may be an option DATE: End Feb. beginning of March (PHONE NOW to book an interview). TIME: TBA - Cert II - 5 hrs a week - 35 sessions FEES: To be assessed on application

This course is eligible for Austudy or Youth Allowance should you apply to Centrelink and is recognised Australia wide! Gain experience in basic patternmaking,

These sessions are aimed at all ages. Have you struggled with computers before? Then now is the time to test drive a tablet as they are very easy to use .Try before you buy or learn how to use your own & their many features. The course will provide learners with basic skills; how to access & buy apps, develop confidence in setting up & managing emails & internet accounts, web searching, online purchases, time management; set-ting up calendar/schedules, etc.

KNOW YOUR COMPUTER 101

This course helps to provide basic and beyond as-sembly and repair skills for computer hardware and operating systems. Introduces basic electrical/electronic concepts. Learn the functionality of hard-ware and software components and best practice in maintenance and safety issues. Great new course! *INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

This course is ideal for absolute begin-ners & for those with very little experi-ence. A great class to take the fear & mystery out of learning basic computer skills. Become confident and comfortable

using a computer in a relaxed and friendly environ-ment. Small classes ensure personal attention. The following short ‘Introduction Courses’ are being offered as part of an approved Pathways Program into nationally recognised courses. Upon the success-ful completion of an introduction class, participants may be able to then enrol in an Accredited Certificate courses now being offered at the Haddon and District Community House or by other educational institutions. These pre accredited courses are great for people not yet ready to commit to enrol in a long course, or not really sure of the a career choice and would like to try some options before deciding, or for those needing to build some confidence because they have not studied for a while. People such as mums returning to the workforce, or those not enjoying their current job and looking for a career change, or younger people look-ing for ideas about a future career path. We have some fantastic choices for you in the following clas-ses. INTRODUCTION TO CUSTOMER

SERVICE

The course is designed to teach the skills and the importance of good work practices; working and communicating with customers and how to deliver exceptional customer service. Rel-evant for all industries and businesses. The concept is to be able to learn the skills that ena-ble business to increase sales through being able to provide an engaging experience for customers. This course can be a pathway to entry or re- entry into the workforce or further study in Certificate II in Busi-ness or Retail and/or further studies at the Community House or other educational institutions. DECORATING

Have you always liked decorating? Or are you unsure as to where to start or if you have the flair? Maybe you would like to learn ways of be-ing more creative within your home and the possibility of it as a career choice with further study. This course will help guide and instruct you in basic design princi-ples. DAYS: Wednesdays( Saturdays or a week night class or other week day may be able to be arranged. NEW GROW YOUR WORK AND LIFE SKILLS

Do you need help with getting back into the workforce or study? Then this course is for you as it is designed to assist anyone with resume writing, interview tech-niques and communication skills, personal grooming, self esteem and confidence building, motivation and goal setting, work and study options and to help you prepare for work and/ or study options. Your tutor is a very dedicated to assist you to gain work or engage in further study. Classes are small and personal. Phone to book your place now as places will be lim-ited. with support from the Golden Plains Shire is currently taking expressions of interest from the community who would like to undertake an AustCycle training course. AustCycle is Australia’s national provider of accredited cycle training and 3 x two hour sessions will be offered in March 2013. Learn about:

ART & MEDITATION CLASSES Creativity and insightful awareness through Meditation - Art & Music

TERM 1 ~ Commences February Friday 22nd ~ First session free Time:10.30 am – 12 pm ~ 7 week program Cost for course - $75 includes materials. Meditation, Art & Music are a form of awakening – one that is available to anyone and especially helpful in times of stress. Week 1. Finding our ‘creative inner space’ Meditation and simple art exercise. Week 2. Experimenting with the thought of art and a sense of play. Week 3. Visual Journal – Personal art journal (diary) for spontaneous images. Week 4. Expressing inner self and how symbols affect our art in dreams and life. Weeks 5 & 6 Making spontaneous images within a circle – ‘Mandala a sacred circle’ with the use of water

We are very excited to have a very qualified tutor willing to assist with the formation of a quilters group at the community house. So come join in and sit and sew, learn basic tech-niques and beyond and enjoy some time to share your enjoyment of quilting too! To begin with we are looking at an evening or week-ends may be possible if enough interest. Sessions will be three hours. SOURDOUGH MAKING COURSE

Presented by professional bakers Oscar and Robyn Janczewski. We are very excited to offer you this fantastic new course! Learn to make your very

own sourdough, from making and using a sourdough leaven, mixing, kneading, adding fruits and grains, hand shaping and baking. DAYS: Mon/Tuesday evenings(2 sessions or Saturday(1 session) DATES: March 18th &19th or 23rd. INTRODUCTION TO CREATING MOSAICS

Mosaic is the art of creating decorative designs con-structed from small pieces of tile, ceramic, coloured glass, stone or other suitable material. Learn this beautiful and rewarding technique and get the skills to create unique mosaic pieces reflecting your own per-sonal style. Bring along lunch. All materials supplied. PAPERCRAFTS WITH KAZ

Friday Craft Club is held present-ly once a month. Come along to these fantastic workshops & find your inner creative goddess! You will learn techniques to make cards and other paper craft items. LITTLE WOADY’S - SWING, SWAY, LAUGH, PLAY Branch into Music - 5 sessions When: February 15th, 22nd,, March 1st, 8th & 15th Time: 9.30am ~ 10am Who: Preschool aged children & their parent or carer. Fees: $30.00 for 1 child; $55.00 for 2 children; $75.00 for 3 children Note: Sufficient numbers are required for the program to run. The Community House has a library of pre loved books, videos and DVD’s available to borrow or swap. Take some, leave some, relax and have a read, while enjoying a coffee in the lounge area.

We also have a collection of LARGE PRINT TALKING books, for those who are vision impaired or just prefer this type of book. Donations of good quality books and magazines accepted.

Please note we are unable to accept educational texts an instruction manuals.
