• Population 6,5 million- 12,7% of RSA ( Census 2011)
• 25% < 14 yrs
• 15 - 35 yrs 37%
• 36 - 64 yrs 31%
• 65+ 6%

• Situated in PHPE - M7
• Dedicated haemato-oncology service for the Eastern Cape- only one in province
• Out patient department
• Chemotherapy unit
• Dedicated pharmacy
• Day ward
Aloe Igazi Unit
• General Ward - 3 male & 3 female beds
• Protected environment 6 beds
• 28 dedicated nurses
• Occasionally we have a secretary and clerk

• Service entire EC: Louterwater to Matatiele and coast to Lesotho
Haemato-oncology
• 500 000 deaths reported 2010 ( Stats SA)
• 10% non natural
• Most deaths occurred between 25 -45 yrs
• 7,2% oncology - fraction were Haematological
• Exact incidence?
• Tumour Registry
CML
• 1-2/ 100 000 per year US data
• Port Elizabeth :11- 22 per year
• Past 7 years : 71 patients diagnosed & treated
• 26 have died
• Are we missing ours? Are they dying before diagnosis?
• CLL another sentinel disease: 2-6/ 100 000 going to 13/100 000 > 65
