We reflect on the standard of students we have at Hallidays Point Public School as we write reports, listen to prospective captains speeches and organise class and school awards for Presentation Day. This school community can boast of a high standard in the achievement and behaviour of its students. This week we listened to thirteen Year 5 students give their account of achievements and their character, which would allow them to take on the important role of school captain for 2012. Congratulations to Jessica Dunham, Cassandra Fisher, Jessica Craft, Brandi Smith, Anika Hudson, Jasmin Gray. Lucy Coyle, Heath Turville, Matt Miller, Kaiawha Walker, Jullian Boag, Keegan Gibson and Finn Fagerstrom for their nomination for school captain. The students of Years 2 to 5 and the staff will have the difficult task of selecting their preferences from among these fine candidates. I am sure that there will be some anxious and excited students awaiting the announcement of school captains on Presentation Day. Yesterday Year 6 held their annual “Fun Day”, which allows them to raise funds for a school gift. It is also an opportunity for Year 6 to demonstrate their leadership and organisational skills as they run stalls and activities. What an educational opportunity in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Dealing with money (Mathematics) Making and reading signs and instructions (Literacy) Creating hair styles and friendly faces (Creative Arts) Running around with water pistols, ducking, weaving, dodging and shooting baskets (Physical Education) Cooperating by lining up, taking turns, accepting decisions (Personal Development) Buying , selling, service goods (Human Society and Its Environment) I guess the challenge for teachers is to make every day at school a ‘Fun Day’. Congratulations Year 5 and 6 on a successful, fun filled fundraiser. The total amount raised was a huge $671.20. Regards George Ingram Assistant Principal PRINCIPALS REPORT

Last Friday Dr Rob Brander visited our school to present “Science of the Surf”. All students found the presentation very informative and their depth of knowledge about the surf, beaches and rips has increased dramatically. Our students engaged in the information and asked some thoughtful questions at the end of the presentation. White is nice – Green is mean, is a memorable rhyme for beach safety. The students’ overall reaction to this presentation was “that was awesome” Thank you again to Hallidays Point Landcare Group for providing this lifesaving presentation.
