Next phase of work starting on Ring Road Major road layout changes will be in place on Cobham Dr (SH1) in January 2020 as construction on the Ring Road – Wairere Dr extension ramps up. The layout change will see the current four- lane Cobham Dr (between Howell Ave and Galloway St) reduced to three lanes (2+1) - two lanes for Hamilton-bound vehicles and one lane for south-bound. The change starts on 13 January, 2020 and is expected to be in place for nine months. The team will be working to ensure traffic gets through the site as quickly and safely as possibly, but the scale of the work means some delays are expected. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey. Why? When the whole project is completed, Cobham Dr (Ring Road) will be raised to allow the four-laned Wairere Dr to pass underneath and connect to the future bridge over the Waikato River to Peacocke. The work we are doing from January means the team can raise Cobham Dr in stages. The Ring Road is designed to take significant traffic flows as the city grows and support people getting around our city now and in the future, whether in cars, walking, on bikes or on public transport. Costs The total project cost to build the final section of the Hamilton Ring Road is $39M, of which $28.2M is contributed by government through Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency subsidies. This transformational project is being constructed by Fulton Hogan on behalf of the Council. How will we be building the road? The end result will see Cobham Dr raised around 7m above Wairere Dr. This is a complex and significant project and is being delivered in stages to minimise disruption to traffic flows and our people. Hours of work The team will be working between 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Stage one – construction work happening outside of Cobham Dr – ongoing. Stage two – remove the Cobham Dr central median strip – completed. Stage three – reduce Cobham Dr to three lanes. The team will be building up over Cobham Dr to make it level with the future bridge. Stage four – on and off ramps will open (two lanes each way) and traffic will use these lanes to travel north and south. while the bridge is built on Cobham Dr. South-bound cyclist/pedestrian route starting point. Cyclists should travel on Galloway St and Cambridge Rd. North-bound pedestrian/ cyclists detour ends. North-bound pedestrian/ cyclist detour starts – goes through to Hungerford Cres. Work area. End of 2+1 lane works. HAMILTON RING ROAD UPDATE Start of 2+1 lane works. One lane heading south-bound. Two lanes heading north-bound. 50km/h speed reduction.

Next phase of work starting on Ring RoadMajor road layout changes will be in place on Cobham Dr (SH1) in January 2020 as construction on the Ring Road – Wairere Dr extension ramps up.

The layout change will see the current four-lane Cobham Dr (between Howell Ave and Galloway St) reduced to three lanes (2+1) - two lanes for Hamilton-bound vehicles and one lane for south-bound.

The change starts on 13 January, 2020 and is expected to be in place for nine months.

The team will be working to ensure traffic gets through the site as quickly and safely as possibly, but the scale of the work means some delays are expected. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.

Why?When the whole project is completed, Cobham Dr (Ring Road) will be raised to allow the four-laned Wairere Dr to pass underneath and connect to the future bridge over the Waikato River to Peacocke. The work we are doing from January means the team can raise Cobham Dr in stages.

The Ring Road is designed to take significant traffic flows as the city grows and support people getting around our city now and in the future, whether in cars, walking, on bikes or on public transport.

CostsThe total project cost to build the final section of the Hamilton Ring Road is $39M, of which $28.2M is contributed by government through Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency subsidies. This transformational project is being constructed by Fulton Hogan on behalf of the Council.

How will we be building the road? The end result will see Cobham Dr raised around 7m above Wairere Dr. This is a complex and significant project and is being delivered in stages to minimise disruption to traffic flows and our people.

Hours of workThe team will be working between 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.

Please be patient The team will be working hard each day to get traffic through the construction site with the least delays.

We ask people to be patient during this time, plan their journey accordingly and take care through the works for their own safety and the safety of our teams.
