SAP Architecture Journey Over the years

Hana in Nutshell

10

Page 11: HANA a PoV

• SAP HANA is a modern, in-memory database and platform that is deployable on

premise or in the cloud.

• Data is stored and accesses in RAM eliminating overhead of fetching data from

spinning disk.

• Data can be stored either in Row or Column based storage providing flexibility in

supporting both front end applications and business intelligence on the same

platform.

• The SAP HANA platform is a flexible data source agnostic in-memory data platform

that allows customers to analyze large volumes of data in real-time.

• It is also a development platform, providing an infrastructure and tools for building

high-performance applications based on SAP HANA Extended Application Services

(SAP HANA XS). It is the foundation of various SAP HANA editions, like the SAP

HANA Platform Edition, providing core database technology, and the SAP HANA

Enterprise Edition, bundling additional components for data provisioning.

• The SAP HANA Platform Edition integrates a number of SAP components, including

the SAP HANA database, SAP HANA studio, and SAP HANA clients.

12

What is SAP HANA?

• SAP HANA is the latest in-memory analytics product. Using HANA,

companies can do ad hoc analysis of large volumes of big data in real time

• Direct integration with the industry standard statistic language R

• Direct integration with predictive analytic libraries (PAL) and Business

Functions Libraries (BFL).

• Built in Web Applications Server(XS) to provide direct access to underlying

data, removing need to marshal data to an external application server

• SAP HANA is a completely re-imagined platform for real-time business

• SAP HANA transforms businesses by streamlining transactions, analytics,

planning, and predictive data processing on a single in-memory database

so business can operate in real time

HANA based BI Solution

SAP Business Suite is a source

system for operational data marts in

SAP HANA. The SAP Landscape

Transformation Replication Server

(SLT) is an SAP NetWeaver ABAP-

based tool that provides real-time

data replication.

In addition, a log-based SAP

Replication Server (SRS) can also

be used to provide real-time data

replication for an SAP Business

Suite system.

Use Cases For Using SAP HANA

• Sales Reporting (CRM):– Quickly identify top customers and products by channel – with real-time sales reporting. Improve order

fulfillment rates and accelerate

– Key sales processes at the same time, with instant analysis of credit memo and billing list

• Financial Reporting (FICO)– Obtain immediate insights across your business – into revenue, accounts payable and receivable, open, and

overdue items

– Top general ledger transaction and days sales outstanding (DSO). Make the right financial decisions, armed

with real-time information

• Shipping Reporting (LE-SHP)– Rely on real-time shipping reporting for complete stock overview analysis. One can better plan/monitor

outbound delivery

– Assess and optimize stock levels – with accurate information at one’s fingertips

• Purchasing Reporting (P2P/SRM)– Gain timely insights into purchase orders, vendors, and the movement of goods – with real-time purchasing

reporting

– Make better purchasing decisions based on a complete analysis of order history

• Master Data Reporting (DG/MDM)– Obtain real-time reporting on main master data, including customer, vendor, and materials lists for improved

productivity and accuracy

SAP Business Suite 4 HANA in summary (S/4)

26

S/4 (former s-innovations) is a comprehensive innovation strategy and roadmap for SAP Suite Cloud

Products and for SAP Suite On Premise Business Products, built on the Business Suite code

line.

S/4 indicates the next generation Business Suite, following R/2, R/3. It is legally a new Product.

It is revolutionary in its design with a non-disruptive transformation for the SAP Business Suite

and our installed base customers, leading to a perfect and connected enterprise.

Innovations will be made available quarter by quarter and will

gradually expand to more and more Suite functions.

SAP Business All-in-One and our Partners will directly benefit

from these innovations.

S/4 should be the default Business Suite

offering for all net new name customers.

SoH existing customers and future

S/4 customers receive S/4 innovation

(until end Q3/2015)

Page 27: HANA a PoV

SAP S/4 is the successor to SAP ERP and SAP R/3 and going back to R/2. Over time, as more S/4 functions

beyond Simple Finance are released, S/4 will replace ECC system.

S/4 will go on to pull in the common features of the Line of Business on-premise applications such as SRM,

PLM, SCM, etc. and provide hybrid cloud extensions to SAP and other SaaS applications. HANA Cloud

Platform (HCP) is expected provide platform for enterprise for custom development.

S/4 will be available as an on-premise product, on private cloud, on the HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC), and in

a multi-tenant public cloud.

Enterprise have following options to get on to S/4 platform

Option 1:

For heavy data dependent enterprise in consumer product industries like P&G it makes sense to move to S/4

platform in a big bang manner. Here also there are migration options available to enterprise for smoother

transition

Option 2:

For many conservative enterprises it may make sense to go for Side Car approach to enable their analytics /

Business warehouse without impacting current ECC system.

Option 3:

A variation of option 2 where side car configuration is further elaborated to ease in business functions like

Simple Finance and Sales & Operations Planning as they are released on Hana Platform. It also could

provides a path to HANA and the cloud in general as the HANA side could be on the cloud.

HANA - What options Enterprise has?

Page 28: HANA a PoV

HANA – Side Car Explained

The advantage of sidecar is that you can continue using your existing system as-is while

using HANA as a secondary database.

The way the current SAP systems work is, the data is transferred from database to

application layer and calculations are performed in application layer. Here you have

significant latency between disk to memory transfer and then calculations in application

layer.

HANA databse on the other hand is optimized for mass parallel processing and

performs calculations in the database layer and only submits a result set to the

application.

Below are Few factored to be considered-

• Data must be loaded from current database to HANA database using any of the

existing replication scenarios (DXC, Data Services, SLT)

• If you require real time loading into HANA sidecar you will still need SLT or have

custom code that loads to HANA via secondary database connection everytime a

change is triggered

• To fully optimize the performance of HANA as sidecar, all custom abap code must be

optimized to run SQLSCRIPT in order to fully utilize the HANA calculation (refer to

part_2 blog for more details)

• Custom abap programs are needed to be able to connect to HANA database and

retrieve/insert/update data

• HANA only runs on SUSE LINUX SP11 so if your current hardware/os does not

include SUSE LINUX you will need get hardware specifically for HANA

• This would mainly improve reporting but not affect the daily performance of your

existing transaction system

• HANA as sidecar using in BW landscape is similar (not the same) to how BWA in

current BW landscape works

Page 29: HANA a PoV

GyanSys has developed number of different approaches to lead your enterprise through this transformational

journey :

Option1 ‘Base’:

Our experienced resources will help you implement most basic of side car scenario including clould base

offerings from SAP

Option 2 ‘Classic’:

Our experienced consultants will work with you to migrate your ECC based system to HANA enabled system

Option 3 GyanSys Flex:

As S/4 becomes GA; GyanSys has developed an offering where we will port your sand box to GyanSys

environment for a fee. This enables enterprise to actually see how their custom objects will fare in S/4

environment before investing heavily in HANA compatible hardware and data base
