Latest news
School safety is EVERYONE’s responsibility!
School drop off and pick up times are always hectic and kids
(including younger siblings) can be unpredictable in their
movements. But as a school community we ALL have a
responsibility to follow the rules and keep our kids safe. Please
slow down, obey the signs (they are there for a reason) and
don’t take unnecessary risks.
Let’s not wait until a tragedy occurs before we all start taking
school parking safety seriously!
If you have any extra ideas or comments about parking and how
we can help to make school drop off and pick up times safer,
please send them to [email protected].
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council are working with us on this important issue and they have some
excellent resources that we would encourage all parents to read:

NSW Election BBQ this Saturday - Can you help?
We’ll be cooking up a storm on Saturday at our NSW Election Day
BBQ from 8am. But we can’t do it without your help!!!
Click on our Sign Up Genius volunteer roster if you can lend a
hand cooking, serving or cleanup on the day.
All donations of eggs would also be most appreciated!
Bungendore Scouts will also be onsite selling cold drinks and ice-
creams to the voting public.
Uniform shop news
Our P&C Uniform shop is run entirely by volunteers and we rely on their generosity to keep it open each
week and to get all orders filled.
Do you think you might have what it takes to be a Uniform Shop helper? All we ask is 45 mins on a Friday
afternoon approximately once every 2- 3 weeks (less in terms 2 & 3 when we only open once a fortnight).
No special training is required, and there will always be an experienced helper (either Co-ordinator
Lindsay or one of her helpers) to handle EFTPOS payments and record sales on the computer.
The work is fun and relaxed (kids always welcome) and as a bonus you get FREE access to our extensive
second-hand section. We’re all busy - so the more people who help out, the lighter the load is for everyone!
Parents & Citizens
Association Newsletter
If you would like to volunteer to help keep our uniform shop running, please send an email to Lindsay at
[email protected] or just come along any Friday afternoon and have a chat. The Uniform
Shop is open every Friday afternoon from 2.45 - 3.30pm in Term 1. You can also send orders via the
school office, or via email to the address above.
Canteen news
Meet Malisa, our BPS Canteen Co-ordinator
Catering and food service is something that’s in Bungendore
Public School Canteen Co-ordinator Malisa Wah’s blood.
Malisa grew up in a family of chefs who ran food catering for
major film studios in Melbourne and later takeaway businesses.
She went on to work for Woolworths for many years - including
as Store Manager for the last eight in regional stores across NSW.
With her youngest child starting Kindy at BPS this year, Mal
thought it was the right time to get back into the food game. This
was perfect timing for the school’s P&C, who had just taken on the additional role of running our school
canteen, due to the lack of an available private operator.
For Malisa, it’s all about the kids. “I love the interaction with the students - it really is the best part of the
job. I also have a group of amazing volunteer mums (and one grandma) helping me most days - I couldn’t
do all this without their help!”
While party pies, beef sliders and nuggets are still firm lunch time favourites amongst students, Malisa says
the fresh salads, snack boxes and colour and preservative free fruit snacks and icy poles are also very
popular.
Mal is currently devising a new winter menu, so if you have any suggestions or old favourites from your
school tuckshop days, please drop in and see Malisa, or email [email protected].
The BPS Canteen now accepts EFTPOS and online orders via www.flexischools.com.au
Joke of the week
Knock-knock! Who’s there? Irish. Irish who? Irish you a happy St Patrick’s Day!
Hints & Hacks for parents
Did you know there’s many uses for the humble nit/head lice comb? Apart from
helping to keep your families head lice-free (try using it weekly after lathering hair in
cheap conditioner), these combs are also great for removing slime/putty and playdough
from carpet. Just let it dry, then comb it out. Try using a nit comb to also get fluff out
of your kids’ Velcro shoe straps (which they pick up when sitting on the carpet at
school. This helps to make shoes last a little longer J
