Dear Friends, On this Father’s Day we honor God as our Father and we hold up the truth that our own fathers and father of fami-lies play a central role in shaping how we understand God and how we find Him. I offer these wise words from an Apostolic Exhortation by the Bishop of Phoenix, Arizona, one which I have quoted here before. From Complete My Joy: #79 Your presence and encouragement build your son or daughter in a uniquely masculine way and make a stun-ningly powerful difference in their lives and faith. When you as fathers affirm your sons in word and deed and time together, you are giving the authoritative pro-nouncement of their goodness so that they can live confi-dently as beloved sons without trying to find their ulti-mate meaning in the things of the world. When your daughter is affirmed as good, beautiful and precious by you, the most important man in her life, she will be confi-dent and well-equipped to say no to the false flattery of the world that so often fails to see her true dignity, value and worth. #80 In your renewed determination to live your mascu-line mission as provider, protector and spiritual leader of your home, you will often have setbacks and moments of doubt. We all do! Stay the course. Lean in to St. Jo-seph, the husband and foster-father who faced difficulty after difficulty in providing for protecting and leading his holy family. Ask him to intercede for you whenever you do not see the path ahead clearly. He is the “Protector of the Holy Family” and the “Terror of De-mons.” He knows your struggle and is a great saint of prayer. Pray for your Dad today. Thank God for him. With my prayers, Fr. Parish News Seeking Volunteers For The St. Anthony Food Pantry We desperately need more volunteers for the Church Food Pantry which feeds hun-dreds of people every month. We need help (a) collecting food from local groceries, res-taurants and bakeries who generously donate to our pantry; (b) processing clients who are eligible to re-ceive the food; and (c) distributing the food to the needy that come to our pantry. Most of the work is on Mondays and Wednesdays within the hours of 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Enthusiasm to help others and dependability are important. We try to accommodate individual work schedules and frequency. Please contact Mike Korin, (703) 642-8284.

Se Necesitan Voluntarios para Nuestra Despensa de Alimentos Requerimos con urgencia más voluntarios para la despensa de alimentos de la iglesia, la cual provee mensualmente, comida a cientos de personas. Necesi-tamos ayuda de la siguiente manera: (a) recolectando los alimentos de las tiendas de comestibles, restauran-tes y panaderías locales que generosamente donan a nuestra despensa; (b) procesando la información de los clientes que reúnan las condiciones (son elegibles) para recibir la comida; y (c) distribuyendo los alimen-tos a los necesitados que visitan la despensa. La ma-yor parte del trabajo es los lunes y miércoles de las 8:30 AM a 2:00 PM. El entusiasmo por ayudar a los demás y la seriedad/confiabilidad son importantes. Tratamos de acomodar horarios de trabajo individua-les de acuerdo a la disponibilidad de los voluntarios. Barrio Fiesta Fundraiser— July 27 The Barrio Fiesta Fundraiser organized by Jesus My Friend will help and support our Parish for any extra expenses. Proceedings from this fundraising will all be donated to the Church. The event will take place on July 27, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM at our Parish Gym (Margaret A. Hofbauer Hall). Our theme this year is HAWAIIAN LUAU. Tickets will be sold after each Sunday Mass beginning June 1st; the donation is $25 per ticket.

Culmore Clinic International Food & Wine Tasting Culmore Clinic welcomes the St. Anthony community to an International Food and Wine Tasting to raise funds for the Culmore Clinic on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Lavoie Residence, (6377 Lan-dess Street, Alexandria, Va). Culmore Clinic, a non-profit interfaith health clinic, provides compassionate culturally-sensitive medical care to uninsured adults in the Bailey’s Crossroads community. “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth...” (John 16:13).

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we need to open our hearts to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer routine. Talk and listen to the Holy Spirit. This is best done in silence, when we can hear His response.
