“But watch at all times and pray”. Advent for us Christians and Catholics in

particular, it means a time of expectation and preparation for the Lord’s birth. Advent is a time when we expect mercy and liberation because our Lord, the King of the uni-verse whose solemnity we celebrated last Sunday comes with power to reign over his people. This Advent is special because it marks the beginning a special year dedicat-ed to the family. In spite of the difficulties we face in attaining holiness, this season Paul admonishes us to “conduct ourselves in the way that please God.” This is a call

to strive for perfection. If it were not possible, Christ would not have demanded it from us. So, this season, let us endeavor to avoid greed, licentiousness, inordinate ambitions, anger, malice, backbiting, gossips, abortion, drunkenness, immodesty, and all sorts of vices. We must prepare and equip ourselves with good virtues like a bride waiting for her groom. Today’s gospel reminds us of something very important in our Christian journey. It calls us to be awake and watchful. Therefore, this is a call for us to intensify and strengthen our prayer life. This is because prayer purifies the soul and casts away all fears. It prepares and strengthens us in joyful hope. Importantly, prayer provides us the spiritu-al energy, courage and confidence to stand firm.

Therefore, as a family, this Advent offers us the

opportunity to unite in prayers as we wait for the Lord. So, rather than engage ourselves only with mundane preparations, let us engage our-selves in intensive prayers. We must prepare together as a family through prayer.

May our Lord find us awake and ready when he

comes in glory. So, with the psalmist let us proclaim: “To you, O Lord I lift up my soul.”

La corona de adviento encierra varios simbolismos La forma circular: El círculo no tiene principio ni fin. Es señal del amor de Dios que es eterno, sin principio y sin fin, y también de nuestro amor a Dios y al prójimo que nunca debe de terminar. Las ramas verdes: Verde es el color de esperanza y vida. Dios quiere que esperemos su gracia, el perdón de los pecados y la gloria eterna al final de nuestras vidas. El anhelo más importante en nuestras vidas debe ser llegar a una unión más estrecha con Dios, nuestro Padre. Las cuatro velas: Nos hacen pensar en la obscuridad provocada por el pecado que ciega al hombre y lo aleja de Dios. Después de la primera caída del hombre, Dios fue dando poco a poco una esperanza de salvación que iluminó todo el uni-verso como las velas la corona. Así como las tinieblas se disipan con cada vela que encendemos, los siglos se fueron iluminando con la cada vez más cercana llegada de Cristo a nuestro mundo. Son cuatro velas las que se ponen en la corona y se prenden de una en una, durante los cuatro domingos de adviento al hacer la oración en familia. Mi oración es que todas nuestras familias al decorar su hogar para la Navidad encuentren un espacio para la corona de adviento y que la enciendan todas las noches al reunirse la familia para cenar. Jesucristo es la luz del mundo y esperamos que esa luz venga pronto. VEN, SEÑOR JESÚS, ¡NO TARDES!

The wreath contains several symbols The circular shape: The circle has no beginning or end. It is a sign that God's love is eternal, without beginning and without end, and also our love for God and neighbor that should never end. The green branches: Green is the color of hope and life. God wants us to wait for His grace, the forgiveness of sins and eternal glory at the end of our lives. The most important desire in our lives should be to achieve a closer union with God our Father. The four candles: Turns our thoughts to the darkness caused by sin that blinds man away from God. After the first fall of man, God was gradually giving a hope of salvation that illuminated the universe like candles of the wreath. As darkness dissipates with each candle we light, the centu-ries were illuminated as we grew closer to the coming of Christ to our world. Four candles that are placed in the wreath and are lit one at a time during the four Sundays of Advent when we gather for family prayer. My prayer is that all our families, as they decorate their homes for Christmas, may find a space for the Advent wreath and that it is lit every night when the family gathers for dinner. We have Advent wreaths available in our gift shop. Jesus Christ is the light of the world, and our hope is that His light may come soon.

COME, LORD JESUS, come quickly!

“Estad en vela, pues, orando en todo tiempo”. Adviento

para nosotros, cristianos y católicos en particular, significa un tiempo de expectación y preparación para el nacimiento del Señor. Adviento es un tiempo en el que esperamos misericordia y liberación porque nuestro Señor, el rey del universo cuya solemnidad celebramos el domingo pasado viene con poder para reinar sobre su pueblo. Este Adviento es especial porque marca el comienzo de un año especial dedicado a la familia. A pesar de las dificultades que enfrentamos al alcanzar la santidad, esta temporada Pablo nos amonesta a “comportarnos de la manera que agrada a Dios”. Este es un llamado a esforzarse por la perfección. Si no fuera posible, Cristo no lo habría exigido de nosotros. Así que, esta temporada, hay que evitar codicia, libertinaje, ambiciones innecesarias, ira, malicia, calumnias, chismes, inmodestia y todo tipo de vicios. Debemos prepararnos y equiparnos con buenas virtudes como una novia esperando a su novio. El Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda algo bien importante en nuestro viaje cristiano. Nos llama a estar despiertos y atentos. Por lo tanto, este es un llamado para que intensifiquemos y fortalezcamos nuestra vida de oración. Esto es porque, oración purifica el alma y echa lejos todos los miedos. Nos prepara y fortalece con una esperanza gozosa. Es importante destacar que la oración nos da la energía espiritual, el coraje y la confianza para mantenernos firmes. Por lo tanto, como una familia, este Adviento nos ofrece la oportunidad de unirnos en oraciones mientras esperamos al Señor. Así que, en lugar de comprometernos sólo con los preparativos mundanos, nos comprome-temos en oraciones intensivas. Debemos prepararnos juntos como una familia unida a través de la oración. Que nuestro Señor nos encuentre despiertos y listos cuando él venga en gloria. Así que, con el salmista proclamemos: ”Descúbrenos, Señor, tus caminos.”
