Vocations Article
Sister Sandy Sherman joined the Order of Saint Ursula in 1979
Intending to teach and wear a habit her entire life.
While she did teach for a few years she never wears that traditional garment.
Like many other pioneering Catholic sis-ters she ”moved to the edges“ and joined a street ministry to counsel and minister to women involved in the sex trade and prostitution.
As America becomes more skeptical of organized religion, we continue to per-ceive Catholic sisters in a positive way (from Conrad Hilton Foundation surveys).
However, some outdated stereotypes persist; 42% of us think most sisters wear a habit, prefer seclusion, and associate with Catholics exclusively.
Sadly, those studies also show a high level of apprehension from parents about the possibility of their daughter becoming a Catholic nun.
But Sister Sherman knows better; she says if someone chooses to enter religious life it is not about living a closed life.
On the contrary, they are out there pursuing their dreams.

Brother Knights:
Membership Dues
Effective January 1st., I will begin mailing out our Annual Dues notices for the Calendar year 2017 to
the Council Membership.
Your timely response in January to this mailing is greatly appreciated.
Remember our special incentive that was offered at the beginning of the year?
Every regular council meeting you attended during 2016 was worth $1.00 off your annual dues.
This applies to our Regular & Honorary Members that still pay annual dues.
20 members will see credits applied against their annual dues for the calendar year 2017
COUNCIL 524 ULTRA SOUND INITIATIVE
Our Council has volunteered to head up the next Ultra Sound Initiative, which will solicit membership
and community support to raise the $15,000 dollars needed to match the $15,000.00 provide by
Supreme, to install an Ultra Sound Machine at the next Pregnancy Help Center. The potential location if
they meet all the requirements will be located in our backyard at approx. 84th & Lincoln Avenue.
More details will be forth coming in our February newsletter.
The Councils in Wisconsin have already raised funds to install over 70 units throughout the State of
Wisconsin.
Reports have shown that over 90% of the women that utilize this free Ultra Sound at the Pregnancy
Help Centers, have decided to bring the birth of their child to full term, and not have an abortion.
We Save Lives, and We Change Lives, it’s what the Knights of Columbus is all about.
Every Life Matters, from Conception to Natural Death.
Can we count on your Support ?
