1 Hardware Setup of the Mad PROGRESSIVE Wireless EDition The Mad Progressive—Wireless Edition consists of 4 different parts.—a wireless router, an audit box/server, a print server and game modules. First, let’s locate and plug in the Router. Where the Router is located is dependant on locations of the games in a location. The Router should be centrally located. It must always have power for the sys- tem to communicate. If the games are along one wall with the printer behind a bar less than 40 feet away, then the Router can be placed inside the last game closest to the bar. If the games are split up within the location then place the Router somewhere in the middle. Generally speaking, try placing it in a cabinet near the middle of an installation and if the game modules “connect” you should be good. No cables other than the power pack are connected to the Router. Second, place the Audit Box/Server in a cabinet nearest the TV to be used as a display. The supplied HDMI cable will connect the Audit Box/Server to the TV. There are whip cables coming out of the Audit Box/ Server for connections to HDMI for TV and USB for a keyboard. At this point attach the HDMI to the TV and the keyboard to the USB. Plug in the power pack that comes out of the Audit Box/Server. If the TV is set to the correct Input, you will be able to see the Audit Box/ Server starting up. The Audit Box/Server is up and running when the Scrolling Sign can be seen at the top of the screen. Nothing more here is needed at this time so let’s go onto Game Module installation. Third, each game needs a Game Module, as seen on right. Coming out of the side of the Game Module are wires that are connected to the wire harness inside of the game. They collect meter pulses and can put credits onto the game. The Game Module is powered by a 5VDC power, shown below. Place the Game Module is the cabinet so that the antenna is as far away from the power supply and fans as possible. DO NOT plug in the Game Modules until they are all wired to the games. Game numbers are assigned by the order in which the Game Modules are plugged in and recognized as “connected”. Simply plug in the Module in Game 1 and wait for the green light to come on. That means it is “connected”. When it does, plug in Game 2 and wait for it’s green light and continue until all Modules are lit. Wire colors and their connections: Red/Black connects to the Coin In Meter wire. Red/White connects to the Coin Out Meter wire. Orange connects to the Meter Power wire. Purple connects to the Bill In wire. Black connects to DC Ground wire in game.

Hardware Setup of the Mad PROGRESSIVE Wireless EDition

The Mad Progressive—Wireless Edition consists of 4 different parts.—a wireless router, an audit box/server, a print server and game modules.

First, let’s locate and plug in the Router. Where the Router is located is dependant on locations of the games in a location. The Router should be centrally located. It must always have power for the sys-tem to communicate.

There are whip cables coming out of the Audit Box/Server for connections to HDMI for TV and USB for a keyboard. At this point attach the HDMI to the TV and the keyboard to the USB. Plug in the power pack that comes out of the Audit Box/Server. If the TV is set to the correct Input, you will be able to see the Audit Box/Server starting up.

Finally, the placement of the printer server and printer. Shown here is the print server with a printer on top. The print server box acts a printer stand. A single power cord plugs into the wall. A power cord for the printer comes from the box to the printer along with a RS232 printer cable that also plugs into the printer. When the print server has powered up a ticket saying “PRINTER READY” will come out of the printer. At this point, you can press one of the Audit Box buttons. If an audit ticket prints out than you know there is a wireless network con-nection to the print server and you are ready to complete your setup. If a ticket does not print out, confirm that the Error light on the printer isn't on before you start moving the router for better reception.

Software Setup From the Scrolling Sign display, see left, press the F10 key on the keyboard. The login screen, see below, will pop up. This is the Admin Application. This is where all the setup of your system software will occur. While in the Admin Applica-tion, all other functions cease. For example, any money in or out of the games will not be recorded. So don’t stay in the Admin Application screen while you are trying to test the system. Make your setup changes, click X in upper right corner till your back at Scrolling Sign and then press the ESC key to reboot your server. Anytime you make changes you want to keep you must reboot. If you are simply checking a setting you can exit by clicking the blue X in upper right corner.

The default login password from the factory is, 111111. You can add an additional Administrator password in the Security section which has the Padlock icon. There you can also delete the original Admin account. Please note, if you delete the original Admin account and then forget your password you will have to ship back the system to have it unlocked. Just a warning for the forgetful ones out there.

After successfully logging in, you are at the Progressive Setup screen. There is an icon representing each of the setup sections. There is a brief description of what is setup up within that section. Click on the icon and it will take you into that section. It is recommended to setup your system starting with the top icon and working your way down through the sec-tions. It is easier to setup your games before you setup up the pools because the pools will automatically attach themselves to the games you have setup.

Setting up Games, first icon, is easy because when the Game Module connects for the first time it automatically sets up a game record for a game with an Coin In meter pulse value of $1 and an Coin Out Meter pulse value of $1. This is the most common setting. If that is how you have your games set then there is nothing for you to do here. Games listed with a check mark have been connected to the system and recorded. A green check mark means that they have connected since the system was restarted and a gray mark means it has connected once in the past but not since the server has been restarted. Games listed with a red X means that they are empty slots waiting for new games to be added.

Click on the checked game you want to work with and the Select Game Option menu will appear. Here you can Edit the games pulses values if they are different than $1 Coin In and $1 Coin Out and $1 Bill Acceptor. Delete a Game means that the Game Module that was attached to this Game will be removed and the next Game Module that is powered up will attach to this slot. View the Game settings. This will allow you to confirm what the pulse values are for the Game. Choose Pools will allow you to attach pools to this game. Helpful if you created pools before the Game record was created. This step is unnecessary if pools are created after Game Modules were connected.

The next icon down the line is for the Ticket configura-tion. Much of this is self explanatory. Editing the Header(top) and Footer(bottom), below left, of the ticket. This is what will appear on every ticket coming off the system. Even if you don’t want a lot of words in these areas sometimes space is nice so the tickets are not too short. The third icon, Ticket Denomination, below, shows what the ticket will print in, Points, Tickets, or Dollars. You will want to check the “Always print Coin Out Tickets” if you are using this system as a printer for all games. If each game has a printer, don’t check this box.

The fourth icon, will allow you to view and clear the audit ticket on the screen. This can also be done with buttons on the Audit box. The final icon, will allow you to see all the tickets printed by the system with the most current at the top of the list. It shows, from left to right, the ticket number, the amount of the ticket, game number and time/date of ticket. If amount of the ticket is a –1 that means it was a gift ticket like a free drink, appetizer, etc. If you click on the ticket number, it will ask you if you want to reprint the ticket. If you reprint the ticket it will say REPRINT on the ticket so there is no confusion with the original tickets. This area is very helpful in resolving disputes as to whether there was a ticket or not.

Clicking on the Pool icon will show you a list of existing and deleted pools. The deleted pools will be replaced by new pools so don’t worry when you see them listed there. To start a new pool, click on the Add button at bottom of the list. After clicking Add a confirmation box will ap-pear, below left, click yes to get started. Next will come a series of questions that will walk you through the Pool setup steps. First you select Pool type, below. There are 3 types, Gift Prize, Cash Prize and Progressive Prize.

For reasons of brevity, I’m going to show the setting up of a Gift Prize. Cash Prizes are prizes with a flat dollar amount and therefore look exactly like a Gift Prize with the addition of a dollar amount. Progressive prizes have a little more nuance to them so I will go over how to set them up, along with other special promos that can be done with the system, in an Addendum at the end. After selecting pool type, the next step in all types is the pool name. The pool name can be up to 16 charac-ters long. Things like Free Drink, Free Appetizer, or Free Lunch are among the more popular gift items. I always suggest naming your prizes something that goes along with the location’s name or theme. For ex-ample, a cash prize for a location named Lake Breeze Lounge could be Breezy Bucks. Corny but memorable.

When adding a cash prize there is an extra step asking for dollar amount before we get to this step, selecting the frequency of the prize. The choice are daily, weekly, monthly or X number of days. Daily is for things like gift items and low value cash prizes. Weekly and Monthly are for prizes you want to give away less frequently but in all three of this selec-tions you can give away more than one in that period of time. For example, after selecting Daily it will prompt you for number of times to award the prize. Let’s say 3 or 5 drinks a day seems to be a good number. A $20 cash prize 4 times a week works well in a good location.

In the case of cash prizes, after the how many times prompt it will ask if you want to print a ticket for the prize or put the prize onto the game. This allows for some very cool prizes. For example, setup a $5 or $10 prize to go off 2-3 times a day and put those credits back onto the game. Instead of printing out a ticket and giving them cash. By putting the prize back on the game, the player gets the thrill of winning and will probably play off the extra money. A win-win for both you and the player. You will find you can afford to give away this type of prize more fre-quently because it’s being played off and not cashed out.

As I stated in the beginning of the manual, the setup of the system is best by starting at the top icon and work-ing your way to the bottom and here is the main reason why. At the end of the pool setup it will ask you if you want to add this pool to all games. A simple click of the Yes button and the pool is attached to all the games and you are ready to move on.

The progressive system is more than a way to reward your player with more prizes. It is an advertising tool for the location. Ten lines of scrolling text are easily setup to promote upcoming events and various specials. It’s always exciting to put up bartenders birthdays on the sign to encourage patrons to come in on those days, and the bartenders like it. A happy bartender makes for a happy operator. If you setup a location account in the Security section, the location can log in and only access the Display sec-tion to change the scrolling sign and background picture. They will NOT have access to anything else so you don’t have to worry about things getting messed up.

The system comes with 12 backgrounds to customize the system for various themes and various times of the year. There is also a slide show function which allows for location’s pictures to be placed on the display. This is great to show pictures from a Halloween contest or a bartender’s birthday party. To setup a slide show, on a USB key create a folder called madone_slideshow, all one word, all lowercase. In that folder put up to 50 pictures. The pictures have to be 1024x768 in size and saved in a JPG format. Insert the USB key in the USB port, the one normally used with the keyboard. Reboot the system and they will be

Security is very straightforward. First you see a list of existing login accounts. As before, deleted accounts are shown here and will be replaced with any new accounts that are added. After click the Add button at bottom, the Create Profile window will appear. This is where you select account type.

At a minimum, one Admin level account must exist for the system to be setup. The system comes with a default Admin account with the password of 111111. In many situations that’s all you need but if you want to allow the location to access the Scrolling Sign setup. I would sug-gest you setup a separate Location account and change the password on the Admin. This allows them to use the system for advertising and you to have peace of mind that your settings won’t be messed with.

After selecting Admin or Location, Cashier is for future expansion, you’ll be prompted for a User name. Then enter a numeric pin up to 8 numbers long. It does-n’t have to be 8 but something 4 or larger is good. That’s all there is to it.

The Sprocket icon will take you to the Misc Settings Configuration. The first item allows you to select one of two types of printers. The two to choose from are standards from our industry. The Citizen 3551, which is a dot matrix impact printer and the Citizen CBM 1000, which is a thermal printer. Even though the CBM 1000 is no longer avail-able it is what all the newer thermal printers are com-patible with so select this if you are using the newer Citizen CT-S651 or Seawoo printers. The Speaker icon triggers the Winner sound so you can adjust your TV to the correct volume. The Green Database and Red Database icons give you some unique flexibility depending on how you use them. As your system comes from the factory, there is a backup copy of the “factory fresh” settings. This is con-venient if you ever want to return the system to the way it was when you received it. Simply click the Red Data-base icon, the one at the bottom, and after rebooting, it will be just like the way we shipped it. Now as an op-tion, you can create you own backup of the database after you have customized the setup. If you click the Green Database icon, third from top, a snapshot of your current settings will be made. IF YOU DO THIS, THE FACTORY SETTINGS WILL BE LOST. Not a huge deal, you can always go through and delete things, but you will lose the convenience of the factory settings if you ever move the system. Just a thought. Time and Date is self-explanatory. If you need to change it, here it is.

The final icon on the main screen, picture of man with arrow, allows you to leave the Admin application. To leave the Admin application you can click this icon or the X in the upper right hand corner or simply hit the ESC key. On a side note, there are two ways to reboot your Audit Box/Server. One, hit the ESC key from the Scrolling Sign display or, two, pull power pack from outlet. Both methods will trigger a shutdown and safely reboot your system.

Addendum Discussion on Setting Up Various Pools

In this section, I am going to talk about various ideas and ways people have used this progressive system to pro-mote their games and their locations. They are just food for thought. Use the stuff here to customize this product to your locations. Gift Prizes— Although the before mentioned, Free Drink, Free Appetizer, and Free Lunch, are always crowd pleasers, other things can be done with this prize type. For example, drawings. Setup a Gift Prize pool name Vegas Drawing and a date, i.e. “Vegas Drawing 10/1”. Set the prize to give away 5 prizes a day. With this setting, 5 times a day a ticket will print out. Have the player sign their name to it and toss it in the proverbial fish bowl. On the pre-determined date have a party and draw the name. This type of prize gives the players something to look forward to and is a reason to get them back into the bar on that date. A variation on this theme is a drawing based on a particular event. A customer used a Packers-Bears game as the target date to give away a 55” TV and several cash prizes. The promotion ran for two months and filled the place for the game. Another variation is an End of the Month drawing. Drawing tickets are awarded everyday and on the last Sunday of the Month at 1PM a ticket is drawn for $300 for the winner in attendance. If the winner is not there, they only get $150 and the other $150 rolls over for the next month. It’s a real hook. It doesn't have to be Sunday, pick a slower day in that last week. You get the idea. Cash Prizes - As discussed it the Pool setup section, cash prizes can be printed out of the printer behind the bar or put back onto the game. Smaller prizes are more like free play and many times are never cashed out. Now if that prize gets too big, say $50 or $100, then they have the opposite effect. Instead of keeping the player at the game and playing, it might make them cash out right then and there with both their winnings and what they have already in the game. I don't want to discourage you from putting credits back on the game, I’ve seen lots of smaller prizes create some real player interest, only you know your players and what would appeal to them. Just talking about the options. Progressive Prizes - The draw of an ever-increasing prize is undeniable. It’s the whole reason why they are all over Las Vegas. Here are my thoughts on what makes a good progressive prize and by good, I mean good for you and the player. Unlike many of the other progressives that work across different games, this system increases the prize based on profit not simply the money going into the game. Based on profit is the only way to guarantee that you are not giving away money that you have not made. All that being said, let’s go step by step through the Progressive pool setup and I’ll give my thoughts along the way. After selecting the Progressive pool type, you will be prompted for the pool base amount. This is the amount from which the pool will progress. For some, the instinct is to start high for the wow factor but it doesn’t really work that way. If your goal it to have a prize for $1000 to go off every 120 days, start it at, say, $250. Remember this prize is going to take approximately 4 months to hit. The prize is going to increase $750 over 120 days or roughly $6.25 a day. If you start is at $800 the most it’s going to increase is $1.66 a day. Not very exciting over the long haul. In addition to that, although the increase is based on profit, the base amount is not. So lower the base and let the profit increase the prize. Next you’ll be prompted for the pool limit. This is the max amount for the prize. Understand that the prize can be less but never higher than the limit. If the limit is reached, any amount over the limit will be added to the base of the next prize. Players like seeing it restart at something higher than the minimum.

Addendum Discussion on Setting Up Various Pools

(continued)

Progressive Pools Continued - Next you will be prompted for the pool starting amount. In most cases this will be the same as the base amount. In cases where the prize has been in action for awhile and has climbed to a different amount and for some reason the system has to be setup again, here is where you put the higher amount. The prize will climb from there and when hit will start again at base amount. Next comes the frequency selection, here is where the X number of days come in. Although a monthly prize can be a good progressive prize, most of the best progressive prizes are 45, 60, 90, 120 days out. I like the idea of mul-tiple progressives with varying limits scheduled to hit on various times. This way there is always something build-ing near its limit to give the player to shoot for. Simply enter the number of days out you want the prize to hit. Re-member this is a random device. It won’t hit exactly on that date but somewhere in that neighborhood. Next is the most confusing part of the setup, what percentage of profit. I generally say 3 is a good number to stick in here. Many times it won’t even take 3 percent for the progressive if it doesn't need it. Let me explain. As I stated earlier, if you have a prize with a base of $250 and a limit of $1000 looking to hit in 120 days, the most the pro-gressive will increase , on average, is $6.25 a day. If the location makes $625 a day in profit it will only take 1% that day and the maximum amount of profit the progressive will ever apply to the prize is 3%. You get the picture. Now let’s say you set it at 1% and the location regularly makes less than $625 a day in profit, the prize will not be funded within the 120 days and will take longer for it to hit, say 140—160 days based on profitability. It’ll then ask if you want to apply this pool to all games and you are done! Other - Another thing to point out is that the system is constantly learning by reviewing it’s own history. The system will adjust for seasonal locations and if a location has a particularly slow day the system might only give out 3 of 5 drinks on that day. Now the inner workings of the system is quite complex and if I explained them all to you I’d have to kill you but let’s suffice it to say that we have gone to great lengths to make it as fool proof a set up as possible. If you follow the suggestions I’ve outlined here you should be good and your player happy.
