Molly Scranton shows her

new art project, a frog

puppet she made at Camp

Kindergarten at North

Harrison Elementary School

in May. The incoming

Kindergarten students spent

the evening boarding a

school bus for the first time,

singing songs, conducting a

science project, making art

projects and more. Here,

Kindergarten teacher Kelley

Churchill reads a book about

riding the bus to school. Each soon to be kindergartener was given their own special copy of this book to

take home and read this summer. They also got to use a Smart Board for the first time! This transition-to-

kindergarten program was developed by North Harrison Community Schools and Metro United Way

Success By 6 Harrison County Action Team and funded with the assistance of HCCF grant making

dollars at work.

A grand celebration May 19 marked the 100,000th student

to walk through the doors of the James W. Robinson

Junior Achievement Center. Here, eighth graders from

South Central Junior/Senior High School along with HCCF,

Junior Achievement staff and other special guests

celebrate this milestone. JA works closely with educators

to ensure that its award-winning materials address the

curriculum needs of the 44,000 students in seven counties

of Southern Indiana and 19 counties in Kentucky. HCCF

has been supporting Junior Achievement programs in

Harrison County since the first grants were awarded in

1997.

Other Events

The Grand Opening of the South Harrison

Community Center gymnasium was held May

15. Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner and tours of

the facility. The renovation of the South

Harrison Community Center was made possible

through multiple grants from the Harrison

County Community Foundation.

The Harrison County Community Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County are

sponsoring the fourth annual Excellence in Education Celebration at 5:30 pm, Thursday, June 17 at the

Lincoln Hills Christian Church in Corydon. The Building Our Future Scholarship recipients are Caitlyn

Janes, Caitlyn Smallwood, Christopher Bays, Dustin Ketterman, Jill Lewis, Matthew Johnson, Ryan

Eichmiller, Sarah Schwartz, Shelby Villier, and William Hockenbury.
