FEBRUARYT97r^Greetings from the TASK Force,
We ore excited at this second opportunity to share with you our activities as wecontinue preparation to go to Rhodesia.
Bill had the opportunity to travel to Son Jose for the Conference in January. It was a real inspiring time and rich in fellowship as he was able to make newfriends and renew some old acquaintances. Some speaking opportunities alsowill result from contacts made there.
Bill came home early from San Jose to attend the Angeles Crest Christian CampAnnual Meeting as he had been invited and urged to be there. We were surprised and speechless when we received large sums of money from the AngelesCrest Board and some of the individual Camp Boards. The total amount wasover $1200.00. We have put $1000.00 of that amount into a housing fund.
We had the privilege of speaking at Pacific Christian College, San Fernando FirstChurch of Christ and the Lawndale Church of Christ in January.
We wish to thank our forwarding agents, publicly, for the fine job they are doing! Also we appreciate their willingness to visit other churches with us and thusassist us in the task of gaining support. Al and Mary are a fine Christian coupleand this is reflected very obviously in the lives of their four daughters, Sue, Laura,Marge and Jeannie. We really feel God led us in selecting them to assist us inHis work.
We hove submitted our Application for Residence Permits and request that youjoin us in praying that these applications be processed promptly so that we maygo to the field in June of this year.
We could not have begun this effort if it had not been for our Heavenly Fatherwho leads us each step of the way. We know so many of you are praying withus each day that His will may be accomplished through us. Thank you.God Bless You,
BILL AND REBA HARRISON

Dear TASK Friends,
As the days of preparation and service fly by we want to share some special concerns with you. We pray to God that we will soon receive the "come ahead"on our Applications for Residence in Rhodesia. We pray that God will give usunderstanding as we buy, sort and pack the necessary items to do our job forHim in Rhodesia. And further, these items should be on the ship, Musilooid, which sails from'' Los Angeles harbor on the 5th of April so t[nat they will be inRhodesia when we arrive there. We pray that the problem of finances, shots, and passports will be worked out efficiently as June 17th is just around the corner.
We want you to share with us as well in thanksgiving for answered prayers.-People are responding so wonderfully and assisting us in many ways. A wonder--_ful Christian lady has offered her fine new camper for us to drive across theU.S. Others have given tools, equipment, and good purchasing information.
We are approaching the deadline as far as our needed service link monies areconcerned: 5, 10, 50, 100 or 500 individuals or groups of Christians who will commit $100, $50, $10, $5 or $1 per month respectively by May 1, 1972 to go toRhodesia on schedule.
The month of February started with the exciting, informative and successful FaithPromise Rally at the Hillcrest Church in Granada Hills, a wonderful day of fellowship at the Rowland Heights church, a Sunday evening at Hacienda Heights wheretheir "Snoopy" campaign resulted in greater returns, monetarily and spiritually, than any of us expected, and was climaxed with a nice weekend trip over tobeautiful Yuma First Christian Church.
Following the advice and encouragement of many we are ordering a new LandRover 4-wheel drive vehicle. By showing proof that it is paid for when we enterRhodesia we should not have to pay any customs charges.
Knowing that most of you want to share with us through your prayers we havetaken the liberty to be quite specific this month relative to the challenges we facein our move to Rhodesia.
Thank you all for your part.

Dear TASK Friends,
We have been very busy getting our household goodson the ship this past month, so we are combining ourApril and May news.
We praise God for many answers to prayer since welast wrote. We have received our letter of permissionto enter Rhodesia. Also, in the short time of two dayswe received adequate funds to finance our Land Rover, which had to be paid for before we leave this country -hopefiilly, to avoid customs charges. This had been amatter of special prayer for several weeks and the Lordanswered in a fantastic way.
Our support is increasing gradually each month. Westill need nearly $400 per month support. We are confident that God, through committed Christians, willprovide our needs.
We will'be participating in the Central Africa Missionbooth at the North American Christian Convention in
Cincinnati, Ohio so stop by to say "hello" if you get tothe Convention.
Thank you so much for your contributions and yourprayers. May God bless you daily.
In Christian Love,
Bill and Reba Harrison

Greetings from Rhodesia! y-Augusti 1972
We are finally here, and we praise the Lord for granting usa safe journey. The first leg of our trip was rather excitingbecause we lost, an,engine and had to return to New York fora different airplane. After that we had a pleasant and uneventful flight. We spent two days in London with friends whom wemet at the Lemon Grove Church in San Diego.
Just before landing in Salisbury we sighted the Mission from33, 000 feet altitude. The other missionaries couldn't believe
that was possible until we described it accurately. The airstrip here has been enlarged and is quite distinct from the air.All of the missionaries came to town to greet us. Those withwhom we will be working are the Bruce Ammerman family, theDr, William Nice family, Miss Ola Marion, Miss Judy Pickettand Miss Kathy Grogg.
The first Sunday in Rhodesia we attended an African church andthey asked Bill to preach the morning message. This is something the Africans "always do" - as we found out later. Thesame applies to Reba as she goes out to meet the ladies groups. She may be asked at any time to "preach, "
Bill flew with Dr. Nice last Thursday on his clinic route. Hewent to the same village that he has told so many of you aboutin our slide presentation. He helped the Doctor with the clinic, and an African evangelist who went along taught from the Bible,
Yesterday Reba went with the Chidamoyo ladies group and theother missionary women to a celebration of a new baby, andwhile she was there not only did she have her first sudza andgoat meat, but also fought her first brush fire as well. Thefire was coming very close to the village, so all of the ladiescut green branches from the trees and formed a fire line to beatat the fire until it was out. A nearby village was not so lucky,as their kitchen hut and all of their food was burned.
To top the day off, Bill was driving Dr. Nice's landrover homefrom a village church and went over one of those river crossingsandj^r.oke a rear axle. He was able to drive it home because itwas a four-wlieel drive vehicle. The roads are pretty rough. It was an exciting day and it was also a great day to be in thehouse of the Lord, The worship services were well attended, andthe music here is just beautif\il.
There is much work being done here at Chidamoyo and we hopeas the months go by we will be able to share more about it fromfirst hand experience as we become involved in it.
In His service,
Bill and Reba Harrison

Dear TASK Friends;
The rush of getting ready to leave California on June 17this over. We are finally on our way! We are writing fromBill's home town, Chadron, Nebraska, where we are spending a few days visiting relatives and saying goodbye.
Our last Sunday at our home church in Tujunga on June Hth.was an uhldi'gi^ttable experience, as it was a special service
-'6'f ordinatj^n^fbr Bill - and of setting apart our whole familyas missionaries. It was a truly beautiful service.
Sunday, June 18th, we had the unexpected pleasure of speaking at the Kingman, Arizona church and this Sunday we arespending the day at the Chadron church in Nebraska.
Our immediate plans include a visit with Reba's sister in
Nebraska, attending the North American Christian Convention, visiting Bill's brother near Washington, D, C, -taking every opportunity along the way to present our plans. Then on to Connecticut, where we will drop off the borrowedcamper we have been using, and make our way to New York. There we will board a Pan American 747^-Q_n_Jul'y 24th. We
are really looking forward to that day!
It is hard to believe that we are actually on our way. Wepraise the Lord who has made it all possible and helped usso much along the way.
In His service.

Hello from Chidamoyo!
The Lord is richly blessing us with good health, happinessand much work to do. We are especially thankful today forthe wonderful unseasonal rain shower we enjoyed last nightafter church. Much lightning and thunder, then about 1/2inch of rain fell. We had to gather our 24 baby chicks intoa box and bring them into the kitchen for the night. Therains are not supposed to begin until November. 1st.
The big news from here is about the wonderful Conferenceof African Christians which was held here at ChidamoyoAugust 26-28, It is to the African Christians what theNorth American Christian Convention is to the American
Christians, except that it is held only every two years.More than 1200 persons attended.
Again, we praised God as our long awaited shipment ofstove, refrigerator, dishes and cooking utensils arrived'onAugust 25th. We had three extra families staying at ourhome for the Conference, and Reba would surely have hada time cooking breakfasts for all on the open fireplace inour house, as she had been preparing meals for two weeks.
The church leaders here at Chidamoyo, the missionariesand the crew of general workers had tremendous responsibilities to make preparations to feed and house 1200 people! But most important were the wonderful sessions of preaching and periods of discussion, and meal times when everyone "enjoyed" sudza, meat and Christian fellowship. Thepreaching was done in one of three languages, and usuallytranslated into the other two. These were Shona, Chitongaand English,
Sunday, September 3rd, we went as a family to church at avillage area called Chipiri, and on the way dropped twoAfrican preachers at another bush church. Bill preachedand Fredrick Sibanda interpreted. This was the first timeour family had struck out alone for church in the bush. Itwas lots of fun, and will be even more enjoyable after welearn the language and can get to really know the people.

Greetings from Salisbury:
We have moved again, temporarily, to Ranche HouseCollege in Salisbury for a three month course in Shonalanguage study and cultural orientation. Our course startedthe 18th of September and will conclude the 15th of December,During this time we are living at the college. They have provided us with a home furnished with everything, so all wehave to do is study. The college has an excellent AfricanShona teacher and language laboratory for our use.
We are hearing lectures daily on Shona Culture, religionand history, as well as Rhodes ian history and the politicalsituation. We had an interesting lecture today by an Africanminister of thirty-five years experience who said that Africais in need of a new type of missionary who will take the timeto get to know what is in the heart and mind of the African, and who will show them by their own life that following Christis a better way than depending on their ancestors to intercedeto God for them. He stressed the need for missionaries tothoroughly understand African culture and religion in order toreach the people with whom we will be working.
How thankful we are for this three months of study. It
would take us years to acquire on our own what we are learningin this short time.
Our family is slightly disarranged just now, as David isstaying at the mission with the Amimerman family in orderto attend school, Julie is with us and spends her morningsat a play school about two blocks away. She had an infectionr —which sent her to the hospital for five days, but she is homenow and her usual happy self. We thank God for his watch-care over uSe
We also thank God for all of you in America who rememberus. Pray with us that we may be this new kind of missionaryand that we may be used by God to reach the Africans inRhodesia.
In His Service,
Bill and Reba Harrison

c November-December, 1972
With language school nearly completed, we look forward with great anticipationto going home to Chidamoyo.
Though the temperature is often 90, the calendar tells us it is almost time tocelebrate Christ's birth. The stores here in Salisbury are decorated, and from acommercial point of view this city is not different from any in the United States. But one of the things that makes it Christmas for us is the children preparing tosing carols, and portraying shepherds, wisemen, the angel and Mary and Josephfor the program at church.
Following the program will be a farewell reception for the Dr. Jerry Smithfamily - they will leave Salisbury December 15th for a short year of furlough. They have won a special place in the hearts of many of us here. Along with completing his studies in medical school here, Jerry has been responsible for overseeing the African work in Salisbury. We will surely miss them.
Last week Reba went with Mrs, Smith to the African Womens Fellowship. Thefirst part of the program was Bible study, led by the African minister. Each ladyhad a work-book in which he had assigned the lesson for them to study during theweek. The questions at the end of the lesson indicated whether or not they hadcompleted their homework.
After the lesson there was a cooking contest. The ladies had been learning somenew receipies and wanted to have the contest, as they enjoy the competition, Rebawas asked to be one of the judges in the contest. The first prize winner cookedsouthern fried chicken and gravy. Others cooked cakes and fried apple pies. Theladies used a one burner kerosene stove for their cooking. Using a large covered potwith an inch and one-half of sand in the bottom as an oven, the small cake pans wereplaced inside on the sand for baking.
When it was time for the judging, all of the dishes had to be taste-tested by thejudges, and the decisions made for awarding the prizes. Everything tasted so good, and after the prizes were given, all enjoyed the "tasting-bee," The ladies weregood natured and cheered the winners. It was an interesting afternoon filled withChristian fellowship.
We thank God at this Christmas season for His wonderful plan as expressed inIsaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the governmentshall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. " Thank God thatthis has been fulfilled in Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
Love,
Bill,- Reba, David and Julie Harrison
