Rowe ('70), chairman, president and chief executive officer of Unicom Corporation, Chicago, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Central Transportation Corporation board of directors. Walter J. Dickey ('71), Professor of Law at the University of Wisconsin Law School, has been appointed to the state committee studying the state's criminal code. Paul Hejmanowski ('72), a partner with Lionel, Sawyer & Collins, in Las Vegas, has been admitted to the American Masahiro «Max)) YOshimura, '94 Paul Voelker,'93 Bill Nathanson ('35), Chicago, has received the Wisconsin Loyalty Award from the Wisconsin Alumni Association. The award recog- nizes an individual who has provided service and leader- ship to the University over an extended period of time. Ellen Ziemann Chestnutt ('52) has received the 1998 Portia Award from the EI Paso (Colorado) Bar Association. The award is given annually to a woman Michael D. Martz, '91 lawyer for outstanding service to the community and the bar, con- tributions to the advancement of lawyers, and service to women in the community. Cir. Judge Thomas H. Barland ('56), Eau Claire, WI, was appointed by Gov. Thompson ('66) to a committee studying the state's criminal code. Judge Barland is the chair of the committee. Eugene L. Johnson ('62), Wayzata, MN, retired as a partner of Dorsey & Whitney, has opened his own office where he will do alternative dispute resolution and provide expert witness services relat- ed to intellectual property law. Len Dubin ('62), Los Angeles, has been elected to the national board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation. He has been appointed co-chair of the Legal and Governmental Affairs committee. Mark A. Nordenberg ('74),Chancellor of the University ofPittsburgh, has been elected to theBoards of Directors of Mellon Bank andMellon Bank Corporation. Nordenberghas been Chancellor since 1996, andserved as Dean of the Law School therefrom 1985 to 1993.

Cir. Judge Charles B. Schudson('74), Milwaukee, WI, has been awardedthe 1998 Human Rights LeadershipAward by Freedom Magazine. Schudsonwas honored for his efforts on behalf ofwomen, children and the elderly.

Donald J. Barry ('74) has beensworn in as Assistant Secretary of the USDepartment of the Interior for Fish,Wildlife and Parks. A native of Monroe,WI, Barry has been with the Departmentsince graduation.

Cir. Judge John J. DiMotto ('74),Milwaukee, WI, co-taught a six-day semi-nar for Chinese judges on the Americansystem of law. The seminar was held inBeijing and was attended by 75 Chinesejudges, law professors and prosecutors.Judge DiM otto also received the 1998Judge of the Year Award from theWisconsin Chapter of the AmericanBoard of Trial Advocates.

Dianne Greenley ('74), has receivedthe 1998 Marigold Melli AchievementAward from the Legal Association forWomen. The Award, named for UW LawSchool Professor Margo Melli ('50), rec-ognizes Greenley's significant contribu-tions to women in the law.

John E. Lange ('75), was the actingUS Ambassador to Tanzania last summerwhen terrorists attacked his embassy.Lange was in the embassy during theattack, suffered some hearing loss, butremained on duty. The bombing killed 10Tanzanians.

Barbara E. Arnold ('76), LosAngeles, has been appointed CorporateDiversity Manager for Toyota Motors.She was Senior Corporate Counsel priorto her promotion.
