Have you heard? OUR STUDENTS HAVE REACHED THEIR FIRST PBL GOAL!!

Congratulations to each and every student who has earnt a token that has gone into our giant token tower!!! We have reached

our first WHOLE SCHOOL reward!!! The prize will be announced at Monday’s assembly and the reward will be celebrated

during Week 9!!!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS everyone!!!!

Principals Message A Reminder

We would like to remind parents and carers that the De Meyrick Avenue school gates open at 8.20am. Students are not to be dropped at school earlier than this. At 8.20am our crossing supervisor also commences her duty. Students who are at school at 8.20am are to sit on the silver seats in Central until the duty teacher commences at 8.30am. We have a before and after school care on site in the hall. Parents and carers are asked to book their children in at this facility if their children are needing to be at school earlier than 8.20am.

COVID variations to drop offs and pick ups

Our morning routines are seamless!! How proud we are of every student who walks through the gates – both front

and back with such confidence now. It is the highlight of the day seeing your children come in our gates with a happy

smile and a spring in their step. It is heart-warming to hear them greet the duty teachers and myself with such joy

coming into school each day.

The staggered pick-ups of an afternoon work well when the timeline is adhered to. New signage on the entry gate will remind parents and carers of times for each grade. Please do not come on site until it is necessary. We as a community MUST follow social distancing rules to keep us all safe. You are aware that last weekend there were two outbreaks of COVID19 at two public schools – Rose Bay PS and Laguna Street PS. COVID19 is still in communities. We all need to pay our part in keeping each other safe. Parking rules must also be followed. A number of parents have complained to the school about their concerns. The Council has been contacted to monitor the parking. This is to keep YOUR children and those of others SAFE at all times.

High School aged students can pick up their siblings at 3pm only. We also ask that if you wish for your children to meet you at the car or at the shops or another meeting spot then your children can be dismissed from school at 3pm. Legally we are not permitted to dismiss children until 3pm ( regular school time) if they are not being picked up by the parent or carer. In the event of rain we will dismiss your children from the silver seats at Central so they are undercover.

Times are: 2.30pm Kindergarten + siblings 2.40pm Year 1 and Year 2 + siblings 2.50pm Year 3 and Year4 + siblings 3pm Year 5 and Year 6 + all students who leave school and walk home/meet parents at a venue

Please remember you can meet with teachers via phone, ZOOM, email or seesaw. At this stage until further advised teachers and executive are unable to hold face to face interviews.

P&C Meeting At this week’s P&C ZOOM Meeting we were delighted to accept a $2000 cheque that will be put towards playground equipment for all students at Casula PS. A huge thank you to the community for their ongoing support of the P&C initiatives. The P&C Executive to a terrific job working hard to support each and every students learning and wellbeing. P&C is a forum for parents to co-design initiative to support the school, fundraise and contribute to the decision making in the school. If you have specific questions regarding your child or a teacher, I ask you speak to the class teacher, the team leader, the Executive or myself regarding the matter. We look forward to welcoming you to our next meeting on Tuesday 4 August at 9.15am. Closer to the date we will let you know if it is an on-site meeting or via ZOOM.

Positive Behaviour for Learning I have attached the strategy we follow in supporting students’ wellbeing at school in a positive manner. Positive behaviour is rewarded through our merit program including tokens and awards. When things go wrong we follow a matrix. These behaviours consequences are taught so we empower our students with knowing what happens when things go wrong. This matrix includes incidents of bullying. At all times student voice is heard and responded to. Support is provided for the student who is subject to bullying as well as the bully. Classroom teachers, team leaders and the executive follow up on behaviours at all times. Please encourage your children to speak to their teacher so that it can be addressed at school on the day. Witness reports are also gathered as there are often different stories shared in such situations. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the matrix’s so you know the strategies we use with students at Casula PS.

Playground Behaviour - reminder Students are supervised on the playgrounds at all breaks. There is equipment available, ground markings and games available. ROUGH PLAY, tips, bull-rush as well as any kind of tackling games are NOT permitted under any circumstance. Likewise mimicking TikTok activities are both dangerous and not permitted. Students participating in such games will have consequences listed in our PBL strategies. Parents WILL be contacted if their children choose to participate in such games as we are most concerned that serious injury can be sustained. This is a serious matter and will be addressed accordingly. There are many games our students can play that don’t involve physical contact.

Evacuations and Lock downs As you know, each term we practice the drill for an evacuation or a lockdown in the event of an incident. Yesterday I sent out a school stream message informing you that we followed all procedures as an incident occurred for a short period of time on site. I was able to reassure all members of the community that your children were all safe and followed instructions of teachers and school procedures. I would like to reassure you that we did not have an intruder on site nor was any student in danger because of the incident. For privacy reasons and respect, I am not at liberty to discuss details.

Our deepest sympathy

This week we heard some very sad news for one of our school families – sadly Rose El Saleh

passed away unexpectedly. A much loved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, cousin, aunty and

friend in our community. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. I know the Casula PS

family will be a great support for them in coming days.

Treasure each and every day with those you love – always remember kindness matters

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Did you know that if students miss as little as eight days in a school term, by the end of primary school they will have missed an entire year of education? If you are experiencing difficulties with getting your kids to school, please let us know. You can speak to your child’s classroom teacher, an executive member, or even the front office staff about how we may assist you. Our aim is to fix attendance issues as soon as they arise.

Why is regular school attendance important? Regular school attendance will help your child succeed later in life. Attending school every day makes learning easi-er for your child and helps children build and maintain friendships with other children. If your child doesn’t learn the basic skills in the early years of school, they may develop learning problems in later years.

Why is arriving at school on time important? Arriving at school on time: Ensures that your child doesn’t miss out on the important learning activities scheduled early in the day when

they are most alert. Helps your child to learn the important of punctuality and routine. Gives your child time to greet their friends before class and therefore reduces the opportunity for classroom

disruption. Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained to the school the same way as other forms or

absence.

Getting your child to school: Problems/Solutions Won’t get out of bed/Have a set time to be out of bed Won’t go to bed/Have a set bedtime Can’t find their clothes, books, homework, school bag/Have uniform and school bag ready the night before School lunches are not ready/Make lunches the night before Slow to eat breakfast/have a set time for starting and ending breakfast. A routine is important. Homework not done/Set time for daily homework activities and check that it is done

Watching television late at night or when they should be getting ready for school/Turn the television on for a set time and only if appropriate

Test or presentations at school/Provide lots of positive encouragement Birthdays/Be firm, a birthday is not a holiday Screaming and not letting go/Time arrival at school to coincide with bell time and leave quickly, happily and

confidently. You may say something like “I’ll see you this afternoon” to reassure them. If arranged with the teacher beforehand, place your child’s hand into that of the teacher and then leave.

When is being away OK? Sometimes it’s hard to decide when it is acceptable to keep your child home from school. Below is a list of acceptable and unacceptable examples:

Acceptable Unavoidable medical, specialist or dental ap-pointments (Try to encourage appointments outside school hours, or close to home time.) Religious holidays Urgent family situation (E.g. funerals) Sick or infectious disease (E.g. conjunctivitis)

Unacceptable Shopping Sleeping in Working around the house Minding siblings/other children/older relatives Minor family events (birthdays) Hair cuts Weather conditions: Rainy/Windy/Hot Frequent car problems Frequent late train/bus Airport/Visitors from overseas or other states Other member of the family is sick Hospital Visits to relatives or friends Head Lice (This can be treated effectively at home after school)
