WHICH SYSTEM?

There are three main systems to choose from:

Whichever system is chosen they share some common features• Ground level beam dressing is preferable• The Posts should be positioned at a maximum of 1900mm apart along the

beams and approx. 300mm from the centre of the columns at each end.

CLEARANCES

STRUCTURALTOPPING

PRE-CASTPLANK

Shown here are the clearance forms for each type of system, these are to be completed by the customer, so that we know the specific positioning requirements for each project. The general standard is to set the system with 20mm clearance in both the horizontal and vertical directions. However, you may find certain aspects of the build require greater or lesser clearances.

Barriers initially set on lower hook to provide final clearance for finished slab (as shown). It can be moved to the upper hook to provide an extra 100mm clearance (if required).

CLEARANCES

The two hook optionWhichever system is used, the default setting will give the option of initially hanging the barriers with the lower handrail in the second hook to suit the final, agreed clearance. The barriers can be lifted by 100mm vertically if required, by using lower handrail in the first hook to give a working clearance gap under the barriers for edge trim installation, slab floating etc.

System enhancements availableNetting – this can be combined with our system by attaching to the top rail of the barriers at 600mm centres. This is where our system is capable of spreading the load effectively.Telescopic rail and top-up barriers – can be used to provide a ‘double height’ option. Please contact our sales team for more information.

Typical installation position - Barriers can be set on lower hook to provide final clearances for finished slab (as shown)

Optional modified position - Barriers can be set on upper hook to provide an extra 100mm clearance (as shown)

Typical Drilling DetailsUB/UC - Depending on the depth of the section size, the Stub may have to be positioned lower, or rotated. Three drilling options are available.PFC – Depending on the depth of the section the Stub may require rotating 90 degrees. Two drilling options available.SHS/RHS – Depending on the depth of the section the Stub may require rotating 90 degrees. Two drilling options available. This requires the use of blind bolts (if this is not suitable please consider the sacrificial socket system).

EXTERNAL CORNER

INTERNAL CORNER

Typically the hole pairs should be positioned 300mm from column centres at each end, the remaining length is covered at 1900mm centres, with the remaining closing gap being covered by either three quarter / half or quarter barrier. If it is above the maximum for a three quarter barrier (1200mm) then you can always pitch all the Posts at equal centres.

• On roof beams, smaller set-out dimensions are required at the ends of the beams (300mm then 1200mm) to provide greater overhang of the barrier to cover the gap normally occupied by a column.

• If holes land near to joints along the length of the beam, then set the holes at 300mm either side of this joint.

• External corners on floors – 300mm from the centre of columns then 1500mm to allow extra overhang of barriers to close off corners.

• Internal corners – from column centres – 300mm in one direction and 450mm in the other direction. This ensures that the bolt-on Stubs do not clash.

• Please note the positioning is flexible within reason and adjustable to clear connections, etc.

• Cellular beams should be detailed as above. Adjust the holes that clash with connections or cells and then take an overview of the centres ensuring the maximum 1900mm is not exceeded.

• With the wood fixing adaptor plate in position as well as the surface mounted socket, screw 6 number timber fixing screws into the surface of the timber. Fixing screws to be supplied by others.

• The Post hooks should always face into the building.

• With the surface sockets in position, Posts can be installed in to the surface socket to the required height.

• Barrier panels should overlap adjacent barriers by at least one aperture at each Post where possible.

• With Posts in position barrier panels should be applied, initially set with on the lower hook to provide final clearance for finished slab.

• Secure the barriers to the Post, the cable ties provided are to be fitted as a visual aid for inspection.

• Use two number pipe clamps to secure the barriers top and bottom on all external and internal corners.

Adjustment of the systemThe following adjustment can be made on site:

• The barriers can be raised by 100mm by transferring the lower handrail to the upper of the top two hooks.

Detailing of the SystemThere are a few basic set-out procedures to apply when detailing the surface mounted system.

Landing Corner – 250mm from the corner, further if a wall is to be built along the edge of the landing.

Typically 100mm - in from the edge of the concrete (flights and landings).

Returns on flights may require single Post and quarter panel.

Different maximum centre for panels when used on stairs to avoid too much clashing.

Please note these are starting parameters and within reason are adjustable.

Installation of the stair system• This system can be dressed to the PC stairs at ground level

(preferable) or in-situ, whichever is most suitable. If ground level installation is not an available option then PPE should be utilised in accordance with working at height regulations.

• The cast-in fixings (M16x100) will have been installed at appropriate positions around the castings.

• Surface mounted stair sockets (E-03450) should be applied to the cast-in fixings and M16x45 set screws and washers inserted and hand tightened.

• Posts should now be inserted into the sockets and indexing pins inserted to set the height required. Stair Posts (E-00450) should be used on the stair flights and standard Posts (E-00400) used on landings.

• The Post hooks should always face into the stair. • Holes in the baseplates of the units are slotted allowing

final positioning adjustments to be made (temporary application of barriers may help positioning). The screws should be fully tightened.

• Stair wings (E-02000) should be attached to the top and bottom panels of each flight. With each initial delivery of a staircase a marked up print will be supplied indicating Post locations and barrier sizes.

• Secure the barriers to the Post, the cable ties provided are to be fitted as a visual aid for inspection.

• Use two number pipe clamps to secure the barriers top and bottom on all external and internal corners.

Site inspectionsAfter the initial tool box talk a follow up site inspection can be requested to check the installation of the edge protection.

Transfer of hireShould the hire of the edge protection be transferred over to another company, a full site inspection will be conducted to confirm a clean bill of health or to recommend any necessary remedial work. The Field Engineer will also calculate linear metres per floor level or area and undertake a full site inventory with both parties. When a transfer of hire is requested the following must be adhered to:

• Rates for the transferred goods will be agreed prior to the site transfer visit. An official quotation, along with any specific details will be sent to the customer taking over the hire.

• A minimum of one representative from the company who originally hired the system must be in attendance.

• A minimum of one representative from the company intending to take over the hire of the equipment must be in attendance.

• A full site inspection will be carried out by the easi-edge representative. The site inspection form will be completed by the easi-edge representative.

• The quantity of easi-edge to be transferred to the new customer will be agreed and signed for by all three parties, using the easi-edge transfer of hire form.

• Until the transfer of hire has taken place the original hire contract will remain and the hirer will receive invoices until the process has been completed.
