INT. BASEMENT OF A ABANDONED HOUSE - DUSK

On the screen we see MONDAY.

Plastic sheeting hides bare walls and an unfinished abandonedhouse, trash is spun about and looks like as though people

are hiding beneath. LATIESHA is a strung out woman in her midto late thirties. She is excited and rushed and enters withher two daughters. They all have old bags.

CORA When are we going home?

LATIESHA Get in here! Hurry up now! I needyou to pay attention to me and do

what I tell you! OK this will work.yea... we like this, don’t we?.

We see Latiesha’s daughter, CORA and her older sister, LAURENlooking on. Cora moves closer to her mom who has found abroken mirror.

LAURENMom...

CORA Are you crying?

LATIESHA Hey... I am not messing around withyou. We all need to stay

here, but momma gotta go for a minute. Don’t you move from thisspot til I get back!

Latiesha leaves the basement, but not before forgetting toput on some cheap jewelry, looking in the mirror and givingthe girls more instruction.

LATIESHA (CONT’D)Hey, hey... anyone comes herelooking round here, you are nothere, right? You got it?

LAURENYes, mama.

LATIESHA Cora!!!

CORA Yes, mama!

LATIESHA Are you going to be a problem forus? Huh?

CORA

No, mama.

LATIESHA Do like I tell you and wait herefor me while I get some money.

Latiesha looks behind Cora then back at Cora then scramblesout. Cora moves to where her mom just was standing. Lauren,in the background, begins to shift through cardboard boxesand trash.

LAURENWe have so much good stuff here!

Cora has little expression on her face. She whispers.

CORA Bye...

LAURENCora, look crayons! I found tons ofcrayons!

CORA I don’t like this place.

LAURENAt least this place does not smelllike mold.

CORA Where do you think she went?

LAURENI don’t know and it doesn’t matter.

CORA What if she doesn’t come back?

LAURENShe’ll come back eventually.

CORA How do you know?

LAURENThink about it... has she ever not come back for us?

Cora snaps out of it and turns around and joins an active

Lauren who has moved several boxes around.

LAUREN (CONT’D)

We can lay on this cardboard. It’sclean. We can also use these forpillows.

Lauren takes some newspapers and begins to make a pillow.

CORA This has the comix on it.

LAURENYou read them to me and I will actthem out.

CORA There is a man jumping around. Heis on a roof. He slips and fallsover the edge. But there is atrampoline at the bottom, so he isokay.

LAURENSee, I will always be there tocatch you...

CORA I want to go home.

INT. MANSION - DAY - FANTASY

Lauren and Cora enter the living room of a wonderful house wearing bright fun clothes. The find a array of gifts, a toybox, an easel with a canvas, acting props, and two amazinggowns. They try and hide their Christmas like zeal withpretend personalities.

LAURENWOOOOwwww!

Lauren finds a silly wig.

LAUREN (CONT’D)(improv a character)

Lauren’s acting cracks Cora up as they play more with theacting props. In looking for more acting props that uncoverpainter’s paint. They both look at each and know what to do.

Cora takes and moves the easel out to her liking and Laurenfind a comfortable place to set and admire her work. Corahesitates for a moment and looks up.

LAUREN (CONT’D)Draw us a big castle!

Cue Music as we enter into a montage of:

A) Lauren looking and admiring Cora’s work

B) Cora working hard on her painting

C) Lauren acting out a character from the painting

D) Cora sharing an important decision of her work with

LAUREN (CONT’D)

Finally the artwork is complete. Cora reveals it to Lauren who acts like she is super rich.

INT. ABANDONED HOUSE - DAY

On the screen we see WEDNESDAY.

We see a painting of what looks like a castle on cardboardleaning up against the wall. Then we see Lauren and Cora

wearing trash bags instead of dresses.

LAUREN

You know what would look good inyour hair? Pink ribbons...

CORA I am so hungry...

LAURENIt would also look good if we putit up like this...

CORA You know what I want? I would love

to eat some pancakes right now.Heart-shaped pancakes, withsyrup...

Lauren looks at the drawing of the castle and points at thehear shapes.

LAURENIs that what those are? Pancakes?

They laugh.

LAUREN (CONT’D)What is that outside the front?

CORA That is God.

LAURENGod is knocking on the front door?

They both laugh and giggle at how silly that is. Then,suddenly a knock is heard.

CORA Mom!

LEONARD (O.S.)

Latiesha! You down there?

Sounds of door opening are heard. Cora goes towards the door when Lauren grabs her.

LAURENThat’s not mom...

They hear the sound of glass breaking.

LEONARD(O.S.)Bitch. I knows you all here. I cansmell you and that BRAT of yours.

Lauren grabs Cora into a little trash fort they built. Thesound of Leonard’s deep voice is heard.

LEONARD (CONT’D)Where’s my money? I need something.Come on now, where are you at?

The girls are well hidden and we don’t see them outside theirtrash fort. The sound of Lenora’s heavy footsteps are heard.

LEONARD (CONT’D)

Knock knock. Come on now. I’m good,I’m good. Where you at, huh?Latiesha?

From the girls POV we see Lenora’s footsteps as they walk allaround.

LEONARD (CONT’D)WHERE YOU AT? I AIN’T PLAYING - NO!LEONARD AIN’T PLAYING NOW!

Leonard is whipping about tearing thru things - looking forsomething. His footsteps address the trash fort. He stepsforward. Leonard sticks his blade through the plastic andslices it open. He reaches inside. His hand draws closer...

Lauren covers Cora’s eyes with her hands.

INT. MANSION - DAY - FANTASY

Lauren removes her hands from Cora’s eyes. A door opens outof darkness and it is Leonard, dressed as a butler.

LEONARDAh, there you are!

This girls bust out laughing and make inside jokes. Leonardpulls out a covered dish.

LEONARD (CONT’D)This is just a taste if what isdownstairs.

Leonard reveals a stack of heart-shaped pancakes.

A huge breakfast spread greets the two girls. They are tryingtheir best to contain their excitement and pretend to betheir characters.

LAURENDoesn’t this look lovely?

CORA Why yes it does.

Leonard exits.

LAUREN (WHISPERING)We are so lucky!

CORA I love you.

LAUREN(clear - as if not to wake herup out of her fantasy)And I love you to!

CORA Are you scared?

LAURENScared like a mouse?

Cora laughs.

Leonard enters with two saucers, one with hot syrup and theother with hot butter as well as a huge paint brush. Heplaces them with skill on the table. He exits with a big warm

smile.

LAUREN (CONT’D)What are you going to paint on yourpancakes, a big castle?

CORA Shouldn’t we run?

Lauren, concerned Cora might awaken from the fantasy, looksover as if to cause Leonard to enter quickly back into theroom and distract her. Leonard enters quickly is on the phonetalking with great joy.

LEONARDOh this is just amazing. Such goodnews.

Leonard paces about the room. The girls look at each othergiggling at him. Cora begins to touch her arm.

LEONARD (CONT’D)This is such good news. I will haveto tell the girls. They will bothbe so happy.

Leonard hangs up his call and addresses the girls.

LEONARD (CONT’D)Ladies, I have some big news.Lauren, that was your Mother. Shetells me you will be in a great bigtheater tonight and you will be thelead of a play. And you Cora, afterthe play your artwork will be seenby the most important people in allthe world. What do you think?

LAURENThat is great news! Hey Cora paintsomething on your arm for this!

CORA What?

LAURENYou need a new birthmark on yourarm, that will help you stand out!

Leonard enters now with a smokey dish. Smoke goes everywhere.Inside the dish we see a rotten fish. Lauren takes charge.

LAUREN (CONT’D)Cora, you need to hold on. Don’t

let it bother you. You are my bestfriend, you are my sister.

Cora gets up from the table, she is feeling something she hasnever felt before and it hurts her.

CORA My arm... I’m so scared.

Cora looks at her arm. The Camera draws closer.

INT. ABANDONED HOUSE - DAY

On the screen we see FRIDAY.

Cora’s arm is bruised and she looks dazed. The place is moreof a mess. Lauren is gently humming a tune. Finally Coraspeaks.

CORA How much longer is she going to begone?

LAURENI don’t know. Does it still hurt?

CORA Not as bad as my stomach. Mom hasnever left us alone this long.

LAURENI know. Maybe we should go forhelp.

CORA What if she went back without us?

LAURENWe need to think about what we aregoing to do next.

CORA I miss everyone. Why can’t we justgo home?

The sound of door opens. We hear Latiesha screaming.

LATIESHA Hey, come on! We gotta go now! Moveit!

Latiesha is in a panic, rushing to get her things. Cora tries

to hug her, but she ignores her.

CORA Mom!

Latiesha claps her hands together angrily.

LATIESHA Get your bag Cora. Go! Go!

Cora begins to collect her crayons and the castle drawing.Latiesha snatches up her old bags.

CORA Mom, are we gonna be able to goback home?

LATIESHA No! Not any of that junk! Just youand your bag now! Hurry!

Latiesha grabs her arm and drags her quickly to the stairs.

CORA Wait! What about Lauren! We can’tjust leave her! Lauren come on!

LATIESHA Who’s Lauren?

CORA Right there! Lauren, let’s go!

LATIESHA Stop playing games with me! I don’tsee anybody! Where?

CORA

She’s right there!

LATIESHA You lying to me?! Move your assnow!

CORA Lauren!

LATIESHA There ain’t no Lauren!I am going to beat the...

Leonard rushes in. Latiesha screams.

LEONARDGet back here! Why you gotta belike this... You think you can runover me? You bitch!

LATIESHA No! Please! Don’t come any closer!

LEONARDOK. Then. I will stand right hereand let you shoot me. Cause you’regonna have to kill me. I’m not

going anywhere until I get mine...

LATIESHA I ain’t got dem. I couldn’t getany! Go away! I will shoot you!I WILL SHOOT YOU!

LEONARDI ain’t scared of you! We’ll bothdie down here together!

Cora sees the knife in Leonard’s hand as he inches closersand closer.

CORA Mommy!

There is a sudden scuffle as they wrestle with each other.Lauren grabs Cora to protect her when there is a loudgunshot. Leonard runs to the stairs.

Cora sees Lauren holding her bullet wound. Cora cries asLaruens image begins to fade away. Lauren waves goodbye asshe disappears. Cora slowly looks down at the bloody spot onher shirt. She was the one shot. Lateisha cries out.

INT. MANSION - DAY

Leonard, Latiesha and Lauren are waiting downstairs. Laurenis in an amazing gown and is halfway down the stairs.Suddenly Cora emerges dressed in a beautiful gown. She looksamazing. She walks slowly down the stairs. She is confidentand happy. Halfway down she takes the hand of Lauren.Together they hold hands down the stairs.

Once at the bottom Cora looks and Leonard then at her Mom whois beaming with pride.

They open the front door and exit into a glorious light.
