Ray High School Certified Nursing Assistant Program
This year at RHS is a course in Career Exploration allowing students to
gain valuable insight into career opportunities in the construction, applied
technology and many other careers. The goal of the course is to help stu-
dents to develop an ECAP or Education Career Action Plan as they tran-
sition from high school to employment. As part of the course students ex-
plore careers and what each requires in education and training. Students
also get an opportunity to work on project management skills in the
woods learning laboratory to work on a project.

The start of the 2017-2018 school year signaled the formation of a CTE (Career
Technical Education) instructional program for Construction Technology Engi-
neering.
The Ray High School woods lab will incorporate a variety of construction educa-
tion resources for students to learn the use of hand tools, use of power tools asso-
ciated with the construction industry. This will allow students to develop skills
and understanding of the opportunities available for a career in construction
trades.
This program is project driven allowing students to gain skills for employment as
a member of the skilled workforce needed to keep a complex community such as
ours on the move.
Students and parents are encouraged to speak to their guidance counselor about
registering for classes or arrange to stop by and see the climate controlled learning
lab at the Ray High School campus facility. Image: Braiden Chester-Construction

Ray High School Welding Technology Program Partners with
HWUSD, CVIT and CAC
With the start of the new year the welding technology program at Ray High School has some new partners to
work with. Students from nearby Hayden High School are teaming up with students from Ray High School
to create a joint welding program serving the needs of the HWUSD and the RUSD. This course is supported
by our JTED the Cobre Valley Technical Institute with dual credit from Central Arizona College.
.Focus this year is on the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process using DCEN, and DCEP modes.
Skills include basic equipment set-up, electrode selection, proper arc starts, re-starts, and terminations, and
basic Oxy-Fuel cutting, and material identification. Welding experiences with overlap padding in the flat and
horizontal positions are provided. Also covered are AWS typical fillet and lap joint designs in the flat and
horizontal positions with an emphasis on proper use and care of equipment and safety procedures.
Welder certification in a given welding procedure under the specific code by the AWS
(American Welding Society). Course goal is to develop skills acquired in arc
welding toward qualification and certification under the requirements of the
AWS (American Welding Society)-D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
