Pastoral Reflection

We kick off June with a time of celebration.

We celebrate with our graduates and the many

milestones that they have reached. What a joy it

is to recognize everyone’s hard work. “Oh the

places you’ll go and the things that you’ll do” (Dr. Seuss). God has great plans for you! And we can’t

wait to see what they are and where they will take

you next. Thank you for allowing Hayshire to be

part of your journey and share in celebrating you

and your loved ones.

We are, also, celebrating the beginning of

summer! It’s finally here, and the warmer days

are upon us. While our Adult Journey Class, kids

and youth Faith Time sessions, Messy Church,

and Table Talk take a break over the summer, we

still have tons of activities and plans on our

schedule. We have a great variety of things that

we know you will love and will want to share with

your family, friends, and neighbors. Keep an eye

on the bulletin boards, Haylo, Facebook and

weekly bulletins for information on each event.

Summer is a fabulous time to engage God in a

different way. It’s a great time to “get back to

nature” and enjoy spending time with God in the

beautiful outdoors. It’s also a great time for us to

revisit what we talked about in Lent on how our

Created World is crying out for us to change our

ways – for us to be more mindful of how we live

and use the resources that God has provided for

all people.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the various

tasks and activities that we all love to do over the

summer: Work in our gardens, mow the lawn,

ride bikes, swim, take walks, etc. Do you ever

take the time to pause, soak in the sounds and

movements of nature around you and ponder how

God is speaking to you through creation?

What song are the birds singing to God and

you today?

What message is the wind whispering to you as

it blows through the grass and trees?

How is God asking you to help make creation a

better place?

- How can you better use the resources you

have been given?

- How can you use less and love the created

world a bit more?

This Junes, I encourage you to take time each day

to pause and soak in the sounds, smells, and

movements of nature around you. Spend some

time with God, enjoying each other’s company and

the beautiful place created just for us. My hope is

that this time will bring you a new sense of peace

and purpose for our world and your place in it.

Have a blessed June!

Pastor Brenda

Blanket Sunday

On Sunday May 12th, an offering for Church

World Service blankets was taken. I had asked

that we try to break our total of 38 blankets from

the previous year. Well we did it!! A total of $415

was collected which will supply 41 blankets.

Thank you so much for your generosity for those

in need.

Yoga

Now thru end of summer we will offer yoga on

Thursday evenings at 6:30PM. Please keep watch

on bulletin board and newsletter for when we

bring back Saturday classes this fall.

We organized the Strawberry Festival. See

sign-up sheet for sides, desserts and

cakewalk.

We are Going Green! One Sunday a month

we will not have bulletins. We will also be

phasing out Styrofoam cups, plates and

bowls.

Discussed preschool teachers raises.

From your President---

Just like our own families and our friendships

there are those individuals that we feel more of a

bond to. Cindy and Dennis Brzezinski were one

of those couples for me. For over 12 years I would

come to church and being a creature of habit I

would migrate to the same pew in front of the

church on the lectern side. Almost every Sunday,

Cindy and Dennis would be sitting to the left of

me. Over the years we have passed the peace

hundreds of times.

I have had the privilege of working with both

Cindy and Dennis on council and various

committees. Both have been valuable

contributors to Hayshire. Most of their work has

been done behind the scenes. Every church

family needs couples like the Brzezinski’s. They

love the church and had the opportunity and the

passion to make Hayshire a better place to

worship.

When it was time for Dennis to move last fall,

I helped load a few items so he could begin his

journey to Florida. I remember having mixed

emotions as we hugged and said good-bye. I was

happy for Dennis and knew he was about to

begin the next journey of his life. Cindy and he

had been talking about their move to Florida for

several years. Their dreams were finally starting

to come true.

Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow for

things to happen as we hope they would. I know

Cindy has many wonderful memories from all of

the years Dennis and she spent together. May

those memories help comfort her in this difficult

time.

I know the Hayshire church family will be

there for Cindy while she is back in York for

whatever length of time that may be. Even

though it is difficult to imagine now, with the

help of her family and friends, Cindy will

manage to get through this difficult time in her

life. Her faith will remain strong.

Dennis' passing is a reminder to all of us.

Enjoy each day. Let your loved ones know how

much you appreciate and care for them. None of

us knows what the next day will bring.

May Dennis rest in peace. God bless.

June 3rd Outdoor Service &

Strawberry Festival

Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy worship

outside at 10:30AM, followed by our annual

Strawberry Festival & Cookout. Don’t forget to

invite your family and friends to join us. We will

feast on burgers, hot dogs, delicious side dishes,

ice cream, and of course, lots of strawberries! We

will also enjoy a cake walk, bingo, and activities

for the kids. As always, when we gather, there

will be worship, fellowship, fun, and great food!

Do you shop on Amazon?

Here is another great way to give to Hayshire

without dipping into your pocket again.

Shop on Smile.Amazon.com and Hayshire will

receive .5% of the price of your eligible

purchases.

All you need to do is go to smile.amazon.com

to get started.

On the first screen, underneath the search

feature click the supporting tab. It will ask you

to choose who you would like to support. Type in

Hayshire United Church of Christ—then click

select.

It’s as easy as that. You will only need to do

this one time and now every time you go into

your Smile.Amazon account Hayshire will

receive .5% of your eligible purchase.

Thank you for taking a few extra minutes to

give back.

Those we love can never be more than a

thought away . . . for as long as there’s a

memory they live in our hearts to stay.

Friends and supporters of the York

Association

THANK YOU for your

overwhelming support for

Mr. Sandy's Helping Hands

for Veterans. We received

over 80 bags at the

Celebration Banquet!

Half of them were

delivered to the shelter this

week. The other half will be

given directly to Veterans on

Military Share day this

month. To God goes the

glory for giving you a spirit

of generosity!

Rev. Cathy Sherry

Chair York Association Community Outreach

Mr. Sandy's Helping Hands for Veterans

Hayshire provided $200 in food cards and $200

in cash from their Lenten offering. The week

after Easter, Dick Lloyd helped deliver half of the

over 80 bags collected by the York Association.

The remaining bags were distributed on Military

Share Day to veterans. The reusable bags were

particularly appreciated! The York Association

will continue to learn about ways we can support

this local ministry.

Doing our part to Go-Green

Council has decided to embrace a few “Go

Green” initiatives as part of our Lenten discussion

on Climate Change, Climate Church. One of the

simplest things we can do, is to go “paperless” one

Sunday a month. This will help save a tree or two

each month, thus providing additional oxygen in

our air supply. We are going to “test” this process

out during the summer months.

On the 3rd Sundays of June, July, and August,

we will not print worship bulletins. I know you all

like to have a bulletin in your hand, and you’re

thinking, “How will I know what we are doing

next, what I need to say?” Don’t worry, we have

you covered! All of our announcements, liturgy

and hymns will be projected on the screen during

our worship service. The format will be the same

as when we have bulletins, so no need to worry

that you won’t know what comes next. We will

still provide a few large-print bulletins, and

printed copies of Pastor Brenda’s sermon for those

who utilize them each week.

Remember…. Worship is all about what’s in

your heart, not whether we “do it right” or not.

So, come out and join us as we do our part to help

make God’s world a better place for all. Council

thanks you for your flexibility and support. We

look forward to hearing your feedback after we

have completed our 3-month stretch.

Go Green Sunday is Back!

Sunday, August 18th at Shiloh UCC - 2 - 4 PM

Free shredder truck will be there!

With the Association emphasis on Climate

Change, we have all new activities and

events. Plan to stop by for 15 to 20 minutes or

MORE for fellowship, food and fun at this

informative, engaging, intergenerational event

sponsored by the York Association.

Book Club

On June 13, the Hayshire Book Club

will meet at Friendly’s on Route 30 at

2:00PM. They will discuss ”A Winter

Dream” by Richard Paul Evans. This

novel is based on the story of Joseph

and his coat of many colors.

The group will also meet at

Friendly’s on July 11 at 2:00PM to

discuss ”Molokai” by Alan Brennert.

This story takes place in a leper colony

in Hawaii.

Summer series is back!

For the last two summer Pastor Brenda has

shared series entitled “The Elephant in the Pew.”

Once again she is asking you to think about:

What Bible stories, characters, or topics have

you always wondered about and/or want to hear

more about? Please be as specific as possible –

such as:

The Ark of the Covenant – what is it, how was/

is it used

Based on your suggestions of topics, characters

and stories, Pastor Brenda will prepare her

weekly messages for July 21st thru August 25th.

Come out and join us as we explore some of the

hidden treasures within the Bible and our faith.

Please submit your ideas by June 23rd via the

church office, or through the suggestion sheet

posted in the Gathering Place.

Communication Process

As we continue to refine our communication

processes, we are excited to be sharing some forms

that will allow us to more efficiently promote all

the great stuff happening at Hayshire.

On our website, we’ve created a page

specifically for communications. This page does

not show up in the navigation of the site for

visitors, and it’s simply meant to be a place for us

to house all resources related to our

communications.

www.hayshireucc.org/communications

If you are leading a ministry or event and have a

message you'd like the Communications Team to

promote:

Visit the communications page (link above) and

click on either Event Request or General

Message Request. (Events include things like

Easter Egg Hunt, Messy Church, Paint and

Enjoy, etc. General messages include upcoming

mission projects, Journey Class topics, worship

themes, etc. When in doubt, fill out either

form.)

Fill out the form. We’ve added fields that will

help our team accurately and effectively

promote your message or event.

Press “Submit” on the request form, and you

should receive an automatic confirmation

email in reply.

A Communications team member will review

your request and should contact you within a

few days to let you know whether we can get

started with what we have or whether we

require additional details.

If you have any questions, please reach out! We

want this to be a collaboration and we’re happy to

talk through any part of the process.

Thanks!
