  • HBTI, Kanpur April 08, 20088 Mechatronics Mechatronics, a blend of mechanics and electronics, has come to mean the synergistic use of precision engineering, control theory, computer science, and sensor and actuator technology to design improved products and processes. Mechatronics is nothing new; it is simply the application of the latest techniques in precision mechanical engineering, controls theory, computer science, and electronics to the design process to create more functional and adaptable products. This, of course, is something many forward-thinking designers and engineers have been doing for years. The continued requirement of technology coupled with needs from industry have called for a trend of merging electronic engineering with mechanical engineering into a separate discipline called Mechatronics. Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary activity dealing with the integration of mechanical devices, actuators, sensors, electronics, intelligent controllers, and computers. Mechatronics is essential in the design of intelligent products it allows engineers to transform their conceptions into reality. Within the next decades, the trade of intelligent products with improved flexibility, performance, reliability and maintainability will be crucial for the economic vitality of any country. The Mechatronics program of the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics Engineering will involve research and teaching activities that push the frontiers of technology in intelligent product design and development.

It has the potential to solve the key security challenges associated with information system. Digital communications is quickly edging out analog communication because of the vast demand to transmit computer data and the ability of digital communications to do so. The department of Electronics Engineering has the distinction of conducting M.Tech Programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering under UP Technical University and planning to introduce M.Tech. Programme in Digital Communication. Several faculty members of the department are pursuing Ph.D and have produced some high quality research papers in various journals of International / National repute. The department in collaboration with training and placement department has been organizing several value-adding training workshops in the areas of Signal Processing, and other related areas. The department provides well equipped laboratory and a Seminar hall for the PG students. Specialization in the field of Digital Communication will provide the candidates with a wide variety of opportunities, both in the Industry as well as in the R & D fields. They can work in areas dealing with Satellite Communications, Mobile and Wireless Communications, Optical Fiber Communications, Real time and Embedded System designs, Advanced Digital Signal processing and Image processing fields, etc.

  • HBTI, Kanpur April 08, 200812 CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY Center for Chemical Processing Technology 1) The main areas of research would include : Advanced Polymer and Composite Engineering (i) The dynamic and expanding polymer industry is one of the few industries in which the India should maintain a strong leadership in an extremely competitive global market. CAPCED would foster increased collaboration among applications researchers in industry and fundamental researchers in universities, to enable more rapid modernization and commercialization of new ideas. The department would address the need for industry- institute collaboration by building a base of research, engineering education, and technology transfer, resulting in improved industrial practice and productivity. The research programs to be undertaken are given below: (ii) Thermoplastic Processing thrust area would focus on polymer rheology and advanced processing techniques such as injection molding (IM), gas-assist and thin-wall IM, and extrusion technology. (iii) The Thermoset Polymers and Composite Manufacturing thrust area would involve studies on resins, fibers, composites, and nanocomposites. Some of the projects would include material characterization, process analysis and modeling of liquid molding processes (RTM, SCRIMP and injection-pultrusion), development and characterization of low pressure SMC and BMC, application of low-profile additives to composite processing, in-situ permeability measurement, and carbon nanotube reinforced composites.
