Don Blackwell, Executive Director, GBN e title of this article is, of course, a reference to Abel as quoted in Hebrews 11:4. ough Abel had been dead for thousands of years, his faith and example continues to affect the world in a positive way. And still today, we contrast wicked Cain with righteous Abel. ough he is dead, he continues to speak and to make a positive impact on the world he left behind. e thought is a powerful one. Every person who lives on this planet touches the lives of others and continues to affect them after he is gone. e word “posthumous” means “following or occurring after death” and each one of us will have a posthumous influence. Some of us will affect the world in a positive way; others in a negative way. One way that some brethren have chosen to have a positive posthumous influence is by leaving their money and possessions to the Lord’s work. While they are living they will put a specific congregation or a brotherhood work in their will. GBN has been blessed by several such brethren over the years. One who comes to my mind is brother Sayman Henderson. Brother Sayman died on March 25, 2009 as a faithful member of the Lord’s church in Michigan. Before his passing, he had the love and foresight to make arrangements for his money to be left to the church. Upon his death, Sayman’s brother, Rayburn Henderson, (of the Glenndale congregation in Glenndale, AL) contacted us to let us know that GBN would be receiving $25,000 from his brother Sayman’s estate. Brother Sayman Henderson continued to evangelize after he left this world. e funds he left were used to broadcast the gospel all over the United States by satellite and all over the world via the internet. Homes that Sayman could never have entered and people that he never knew had the opportunity to hear the soul- saving gospel due to his generosity and love of the truth. In his death he is reached far more people than he met in his almost 84 years of life. Since the time of brother Sayman’s gift to GBN, several others have remembered our work in their wills. Just this month, we received a contribution from the estate of sister Francis Looney. We are eternally grateful to the foresight and love for souls shown by these generous brethren. Would you also consider putting the Gospel Broadcasting Network in your will? Certainly all of us want to do everything within our power while we are living to reach lost souls. But imagine continuing to reach them long after you die. e song says, “When in the better land before the bar we stand, How deeply grieved our souls will be, If any lost one there should cry in deep despair, ‘You never mentioned Him to me.” On the other hand, imagine the joy of meeting someone in heaven who says, “I’m here because of what you left behind!” We will all have a posthumous influence. Don Blackwell, Executive Director, GBNThe title of this article is, of course, a reference to Abel as quoted in Hebrews 11:4. IN MEMORY OF...

Over the past several years, GBN has been blessed with a very successful intern program. Through this program, GBN has been able to work with a dozen different students and gain from their efforts. In return, the interns have been exposed to many different aspects of our work and have seen what it takes to make the network run. The program has worked so well for us that two of our current employees began as interns.

This summer we are pleased to have 3 new interns work with us. Grant Gill, a recent high school graduate, and a member of the Southaven congregation will be working with us before heading off to college. Sarah Barch, valedictorian of her high school class and also a member of the Southaven congregation, will work with us until she begins college in the fall. Kris Rogers is a sophomore and photography major at Freed-Hardeman University and a member of the Nesbit congregation. These three will be working in a variety of capacities at GBN during the summer and will help us spread the Gospel throughout the world.

GBNLIVE IS BACK!We last aired GBNLive in December of 2016. As we entered 2017 we decided that we were going to take a break while we revamped the program and designed a new set. GBNLive is one of our most popular and watched programs that we air on the Network, and many of you have let us know that you’ve been missing it.

When we decided to revamp the program, we had several goals in mind. First, we wanted to make our set look more professional, which we have certainly achieved. Thanks to a generous donation we had the necessary funds to create top-notch background for the program, complete with a wall of monitors, real stone columns and a lighted mural of the city of Memphis. Second, we have adjusted the format of the program to make it faster-paced. It’s our desire to cover more questions from viewers and to have more interaction with callers. We will be airing the program on Facebook Live, which has proven to greatly increase the viewing audience.

GBNLive will resume on Thursday night, June 1st at 7 pm Central with Mike Hixson hosting and Don Walker and Russell Kline as guests. The topic will be Premillennialism. Plan now to set aside 7-8 pm on Thursday nights to join us!

IN HONOR OF...

MEET KEN PARKSPlease allow me to introduce Ken Parks. Ken is the newest GBN employee and is working in the I.T. department. His story is an amazing one, as he has only been a Christian for a short time. Ken visited the Southaven congregation after his wife Carla obeyed the gospel. He was quickly approached about doing a Bible study and agreed to do so. Though he believed in God, Ken had doubts about the inspiration of the Bible. Within a few weeks of studying,

he was convinced, not only that the Bible is from God, but also of his own need to obey it. On February 15th of this year Ken was baptized into Christ.

Some weeks after Ken’s baptism, GBN posted an ad on Facebook for an employment opportunity. Aaron Cozort, our I.T., had been overwhelmed trying to manage the entire workload by himself. We realized that we had no choice but to hire an additional I.T. guy. Ken applied and was hired.

The story is a great one. Within a few months, he has gone from one who doubted the inspiration of the Bible, to a Christian, to a fulltime worker in the Lord’s Kingdom, spreading the gospel via GBN. God has blessed him and us!

Have you considered GBN in your estate planning?

Estate planning may sometimes be considered a grievous task. When beginning estate planning we’re often considering decisions and choices that will impact those we love when we’re gone. Some may be happy about those decisions; yet others may be

hurt. Also, thoughts of your own mortality are often highlighted during such times of planning. For these and many other reasons estate planning can be daunting.

Why bring up the challenges of estate planning in an article asking you to remember GBN in your future plans? Consider this: many people, seeing the challenges and difficulties in estate planning will put off such planning until they are no longer able to verbalize their own wishes. Why is this important? At a time when, on average, nearly half of all children raised in the church are no longer faithful, there is a possibility those who stand to gain from your legacy will not be honoring the Lord. Why not take the time to ensure the legacy you leave is one that actually reflects your values? Would you consider leaving a portion of your legacy to GBN?

GBN appreciates your consideration in all matters of giving. Estate planning is one of many ways in which you can contribute to the work at GBN. For more information on including GBN in your will or estate or other giving questions, please contact John Stubblefield, Director of Finance.
