Adam BourneLIVE OAK CHURCH (ELMWOOD)

About the FamilyMy wife, Jessica, and I have been married almost six years now. Wemoved to New Orleans and the Elmwood area about four years ago.God has added to our family in many ways since being here. We havean incredible church family, some great friends who are more like familythan friends and who double as aunts and uncles to our daughter, Molly(almost 1 year old). I work full time outside the church as does my wife, who is an accountant.

We are originally from Hattiesburg, Miss., just a couple hours north ofNew Orleans. And much to the dismay of many people whom we love,we are both graduates of Ole Miss. Jessica has a master's degree inAccountancy, and I have a bachelor's degree. I also squeaked througha master's program at NOBTS.

We love our city and are excited to raise and grow our family here in theNOLA Metro. We thank God for calling us to such a great city, and welook forward to seeing how He will continue to use us.

About the Church PlantLive Oak Church is in its infancy, but God began this work a long timeago. Combined, our team of seven has lived in the Metro Area for about150 years, and five of us grew up here. Over that time, God has givenus a love and a burden for the city.

We started talking about the possibility of planting back in 2011. As theElmwood area continued to explode with development, it became clearthat we were going to stay home and plant here.

As a church, we're seeking to love God and love people in the Elmwoodarea. We're plugging into the lives of our neighbors and coworkers tointroduce them to Jesus. Our goal is to be a vibrant church focused onreaching the unchurched in our community and throughout the world.

PRAY.–For our friends, neighbors andcoworkers. Some of them areChristians and some aren't.–For time and resources. We needmore of both.–For our church family. More than halfof us haven't been in church long orhaven't really been discipled.

PARTICIPATE.–Come worship with us! Meet LiveOak Church and catch the vision forwhat God is doing in our area.–Pray for us. We've stretchedourselves beyond our means, but thepower of God can do all He has set outto do.

PROVIDE.There are numerous ways to help achurch plant. Please visit sendnetwork.com/planterfunding forNAMB's policy on providing for churchplants.

More to LOVE about First by Brooke Hutson Gibson

Each Sunday, there are volunteers who work behind the scenes to help make our 50 Sunday School classes a success. Our Sunday School directors help secure teachers, make sure each class has supplies and resources, and assist with records/guest cards. Our current directors are: Matt Moore (Adults), Cindy & Dan Reed (Youth), Whitney Simon (Children), and Jennifer Spencer (Preschool).

"Matt, the Reeds, Whitney, and Jennifer go above and beyond to help our Sunday School program at the church run smoothly. They volunteer countless hours, and I am extremely grateful for their commitment to serve," said Timothy Gibson, Education Pastor.

Sunday School is an integral part of our mission, and these volunteers are just one more thing to love about First!
