The RAF at 100In April 1918, barely 13 years after the first powered flight, the Royal Air Force was formed as the first independent air force in the world. And just 22 years later, the RAF fought and won the first strategic battle to take place primarily in the air – the Battle of Britain.
To help commemorate the centenary of the RAF, our Grand Scrivener, Stuart Notholt, will be speaking at the St. George’s Day dinner of our partner organization, the
North Downs Branch of the Royal Society of St. George. The theme of Stuart’s talk will be ‘a Battle of Britain ghost story.’
The dinner takes place in East Malling, Kent, on Monday 23 April. All members of the Order are invited. Please contact Stuart at [email protected] for details.

The Order of St. George has partnered with Samara’s Aid Appeal, which works to get essential medical and clothing supplies to refugees in the Middle East. We’re asking every member and supporter of the Order to play their part in supporting this vital humanitarian work.
Many female refugees in the Middle East have been through tremendous hardships and most face a very bleak future. For Samara’s forthcoming spring appeal, we are asking everyone in the Order to help by collecting at least one Dignity Bag, which contain some of the essential toiletries and other items female refugees need just to maintain a basic sense of dignity.

The Order of St George is an
international association of men and
women that takes its inspiration from the
very first order of knighthood, the Order
of St. George founded in 1326 by King
Károly Róbert of Hungary.
St. George is the patron saint of soldiers,
and also holds a special place in the
affections of Christians in Africa and
the Middle East. True to this heritage,
the Order of St. George focuses on
supporting Christian communities in Iraq
and Egypt, and with charities supporting
the welfare of NATO and Commonwealth
armed forces personnel. Wherever we
work, we strive to promote and pursue
the timeless traditions of chivalry by
compassion and charity.
We are particularly proud of our links with
the Coptic community in Egypt, and with
the Anglican Church in Baghdad, whose
Vicar Emeritus, the Rev Canon Andrew
White, is our Order’s Spiritual Protector.
The Order of St. George Relief Corps
is our in-country operation, working in
northern Iraq and Kurdistan bringing
medical support to vulnerable communities.

More Commanderies wanted...As our Order grows, we’re hoping to set up more Commandaries, which will be active in local areas or on specific areas of our work. Small, more informal groups of members can also form local Encampments that can develop into Commanderies in due course.
In the UK, we currently have plans to develop our presence in Wales and the West Mercia region of England, while in North America our Grand Commandery is working to launch several new Commanderies at the State level.
If you would like to get involved with the Order at the regional level and would like to help with the growth or set-up of a local Commandery, please contact our Grand Scrivener at [email protected].

About our Order
In addition to being the Patron Saint of England, St. George is the Patron of soldiers, and also holds a special place in the affections of Christians in Africa and the Middle East. Following this tradition we work for the welfare of UK and NATO armed forces personnel, and in support of vulnerable Christian communities.
In the UK we support the Royal Hospital Chelsea, of which we are a Platinum Friend, and the Welfare Fund of our affiliated regiment, the 3rd Battalion of the Princess
of Wales’s Royal Regiment. In the United States we support the Green Beret Foundation. The Order is a
registered charity in England and a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the USA.
We welcome into membership ladies and gentlemen who wish to be involved in the Order’s charitable work.
For information about joining the Order of St. George, please see the Joining the Order page on our website:

The International Knightly Order Valiant of Saint George takes its inspiration from the ancient and honourable Christian Order of Knighthood founded in 1326 by King Károly Róbert of Hungary.
“The Order of St George promotes and pursues the timeless traditions of chivalry by compassion and supporting works of charity. The Order focuses on supporting charities that work with current and former service personnel, and with Christian communities suffering religious persecution.”
