Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle B) A Sunday Reflection AT ONCE THE FEVER LEFT HER AND SHE GOT UP AND BEGAN TO SERVE

THEM (Mk 1;31).

One of the characteristics of St. Mark’s gospel is a sense of urgency. We have seen it in the response of the first disciples, who “immediately left their nets and followed Him” (Mk 1:18); or in the unclean spirit Jesus expelled at the synagogue (1:26). We will see it again next Sunday, when the leper is cured “immediately” (1:42). Today it’s Simon’s mother-in-law. He is told “immediately” that she is ill, and the fever left her “at once and began to serve them” (1:31).

What are we to make of this? “The Kingdom of God is at hand”, the Lord says meaning it’s already here. “Repent and believe in the gospel,” He entreats us with words we will soon hear again on Ash Wednesday. Yes, the Kingdom is here, now, among us! Do not wait! Do not delay! Go out and bring the Good News to all the world! Immediately!

A good way to do this is by pledging to the ABCD. I again invite you to pledge $1 a day for a year and thank those who have already contributed. Let’s spread the Good News by helping our parish reach our goal and supporting our brothers and sisters in need. God bless you.

EN ESE MOMENTO SE LE QUITÓ LA FIEBRE Y SE PUSO A SERVIRLES (Mc 1,31).

Una de las características del evangelio de San Marcos es un sentido de urgencia. Lo hemos visto en la respuesta de los primeros discípulos, que “inmediatamente dejaron sus redes y lo siguieron” (Mc 1,18), o en el espíritu inmundo que Jesús expulsó en la sinagoga (1,26). Lo veremos el próximo domingo, cuando el leproso queda curado “inmediatamente” (1,42). Hoy se trata de la suegra de Simón. Le avisaron “enseguida” que se encuentra enferma, y la fiebre se le quitó “al momento y ‘se puso a servirles” (1,31).

¿Qué pensar de esto? “El Reino de Dios está cerca”, dice el Señor significando que ya está aquí. “Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio”, nos pide, con palabras que pronto escucharemos de nuevo el Miércoles de Ceniza. Sí, el Reino está aquí, ahora, entre nosotros. ¡No esperen! ¡No tarden! Salgan a llevar la Buena Nueva a todo el mundo. ¡Inmediatamente!

Una buena manera de hacerlo es comprometiéndose con el ABCD. Los invito de nuevo a comprometerse con $1 diario por un año y doy las gracias a los que ya han contribuido. Difundamos la Buena Noticia ayudando a lograr la meta de la parroquia y apoyando a nuestros hermanos necesitados. Que Dios los bendiga.

Devotion to St. Joseph Devotion to St. Joseph has grown extensively throughout the history of the

Church, which not only attributes to him high reverence after that of the Mother of God his spouse, but has also given him multiple patronages.

At the same time, the Magisterium of the Church continues to discover old and new greatness in this treasure which is St. Joseph, like the master in the Gospel of Matthew who brings from his storeroom “both the new and the old” (Mt 13:52).

Therefore, the gift of indulgences granted by mandate of the Holy Father for this year of St. Joseph will be of great benefit to the faithful. A plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions) to Christians who, with a spirit detached from any sin, participate in the Year of St. Joseph.*

St. Joseph, an authentic man of faith, invites us to rediscover our filial relationship with the Father, to renew fidelity to prayer, to listen and correspond with profound discernment to God’s will. He encourages us to rediscover the value of silence, prudence, and loyalty in carrying out our duties.

La devoción al Custodio del Redentor se ha desarrollado ampliamente a lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia, que no sólo le atribuye uno de los cultos más altos después del de la Madre de Dios su esposa, sino que también le ha otorgado muchos patrocinios.

Al mismo tiempo, el Magisterio de la Iglesia sigue descubriendo “grandezas antiguas y nuevas en este tesoro que es San José, como el padre del Evangelio de Mateo "que extrae de su tesoro cosas nuevas y viejas" (Mt 13,52).

For the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, there will be a healing Mass sponsored by the Order of Malta next Sunday, February 14, at 12:30 pm, followed by procession with the Blessed Sacrament. Ash Wednesday this year is February 17. Due to the current pandemic, the Holy See has issued new instructions about the blessing and distribution of ashes. After the blessing and sprinkling of the ashes with holy water, the celebrant will pronounce the imposition formula once, instead of individually. After that, he will proceed to impose them on each person in the usual manner. Este año el Miércoles de Ceniza es el 17 de febrero. Debido a la actual pandemia, la Santa Sede ha modificado el rito de bendición y distribución de la ceniza. Luego de bendecirlas y asperjarlas con agua bendita, el celebrante pronunciará la fórmula de imposición una sola vez, en vez de hacerlo individualmente. Donald Calloway, available online. Consecration will take place on the feast day of St. Joseph, March 19.
