About us
• Our project comprises of 6 teams of Primary 6 pupils.
• We had been chosen based on our project ideas we had come up with during last year’s Design Thinking Project Work.
• Our projects were selected as they met the needs of our users and the criteria set.
Needs: Bored at home and difficult to travel.
Proposal: -Mobile community and health centre for the elderly.(Comprises of a gym, healthcare centre, salad bar, computer centre.)
-Wisdom park with shuttle bus
Actualisation: Gotong Royong Event bus to bring the community centre to the elderlies. Skit, line-dancing, computer workshop, fruits bar. Bus moves from estate to estate. (With PA and AAC in 2016)
How was Gotong Royong actualised?
- Innovative idea
- Meet the needs of the users
- Feasible for outreach

The table below shows how the criteria are linked to the school Vision, Life Long Learning Programme, WHIZZ and the Design Thinking Method.
The teachers used a checklist to select the projects and the list of potential projects were sent to People Association (PA) to seek possible collaboration.
Our Target for our Carnival• To achieve our school’s vision and LLP, WHIZZ
(We are tHinking, Inventive and Zealous kidZ)
-We must be able to make a difference to the community in terms of serving the elderly and keeping our environment Clean & Green
-Able to actualise our prototypes and achieve at least a B grade for our Project Work 3Cs (Curiosity, Cooperation & Confidence) competencies
-At least 95% of the elderly should be satisfied with our project
The flow chart shows how our project achieves the
vision, mission and values of our school through
WHIZZ.

Carnival
• Gotong Royong carnival gave us the opportunity to actualise the ideas from both the scenarios
• Pupils engaged the elderly in a number of activities pertaining to healthy living and Clean and Green Singapore .
Partnership with PA (AAC & ACE the Place)
and KTPH
• Quoting from Tim Brown, CEO of IDEO, “Design thinking is a human-centered problem solving with an emphasis on collaboration, creativity & empathy. The key to the process is empathising with the user’s needs to solve the problem”.

February
• The teachers informed us that our projects were selected from the Primary 5 Design Thinking Projects to be presented at a carnival and asked if we are keen to take part.
• We discussed some possible directions that we can take to refine our project to meet the objectives of the carnival.
March
• We decided how we can improve the current activities we had to suit our elderly’s needs.
• We created our prototype.
• We tested it on the elderlies to get their inputs.
• We refined our ideas based on their inputs.
• Some of us seek help from external partners.
April
• We presented our ideas/ prototype to school leaders for their inputs.
• Then we further refined our ideas.
• Our ideas were also shared with the Active Aging community
• Then we further refined of our ideas based on the feedback.
• We prepared the material and resources and teachers purchased things that we needed.
• We worked with the mother tongue language department teachers to translate our materials to the various language.
• Actual implementation of project
