Preface
Firstly, we would like to present our praise and gratitude to our Almighty God
for all his help and decision to help us out in doing this final project, and secondly, we
also we give the most thanks to our teacher which has been guiding us all this entire
time by giving us out the knowledge required to do this final project. We will never
be able to complete this final project without their help and assistance.
This final project is made by various observation and assistance from a lot of
people to help solving the challenge and boundaries during it’s creation. Therefore,
we want to give out our greatest thanks to every single person who had helped us in
completing this project.
The main reason we created this project is to give out explanation about what
is worthy to be called as a healthy house, its characteristic, and also how to design and
build it. First, we find an unhealthy house at local habitation near our campus, the
main reason to choose this site is due to it’s close distance from our campus and dorm
which make it a very strategic place to be an observation object. The project began
when we are observe and figure the chracteristic of an unhealthy house and figure out
how to renovate it to become a healthy house. In order to create a renovation plan, we
research through the SNI standards which is the official standard for housing
construction in Indonesia.
In this paper, we write our detailed reports and works clearly, we also
compared our observation with the SNI standards as the offcial indonesian regulation
in order to give clear and eligible comparison towards our works. There will also be a
summary of our work, including the Standaritation, Bill of quantity, and also the
house renovation plan which is made according to SNI. Examples of real statitiscal
analyses based on SNI standaritation are also can be found in this book. We hope the
reader can found the book as a genuine and satisfying reading material.
We realize that there are still many fundamental flaws in this paper. Therefore
we invite readers to give suggestions and criticisms which can develop our ability to
make a better paper. Constructive criticisms from the readers are highly expected for
further refinement of paper.

I.1 Background
Home is a major or primary need for every human being beside food and
clothing. Primary needs is requirements that must be satisfied, which means
that if these needs are not fullfilled, it will cause major problem which cause
the person’s life cannot function smoothly. Home or private residence is
developing from time to time. During the ancient times, humans lived in caves
and holes, and as time pass by they manage to build a home in the forest,
under and on the trees. Not until medieval eras they finally manage to
construct a fine and foundation based house equipped with various appliances.
Basically, home is a very basic need in every person’s life. It is more than just
a place to rest after having a lot of daily activities, but it is also a symbol of the
status of the people living inside. The problem of house condition wether it is
from construction or social condition may affect people’s daily life.
Rising of health problem nearby the settlement is considered to be mainly
caused by the rising of human population and the lack of suitable land for
living. The community settlement is one of the main factor which determine
the hygiene and environmental sanitation condition. Houses which are badly
arranged and constructed may cause disease to easily spread around the
community. A healthy house is anot always considered as a large and
luxurioud house, a simple house which follow the house construction
regulation is can also be considered as a healthy house. A Healthy house is
considered from the physical, chemical, biological aspect which will
determine wether the occupants can optimal health or not.
In order to conclude wether the house can be considered as a healthy houe it
needs to fullfill not onlythe physical needs but also the spiritual needs.
Physical needs can be considered to be fulfilled when the occupants can do
activities such as reading, writing, and resting. Spiritual needs can be
considered to be fulfilled when the occupants can have privileges like
protection against disease, weather, wind, etc, when they are at their home.
3
The house also need to include facility and equipments to maintain the
occupant’s physical, mental and social needs, so all the occupants can do their
daily activities efficiently. Therefore, the existence of healthy, safe,
harmonious house condition is necessary for the more functionality and
productivity of the occupants. Only by fullfilling those requirements then a
house can be considered as a healthy home
I.2 Problem Analysis
Fullfilling the healthy housing requirements is one of the effort to increase
functionality. Most houses in Indonesia hasn’t yet satisfied the requirements
of what is called a healthy house. However, as the authority in charge, the
government is trying to fix this traditional problem. A private residence is
always related to the economic, social, ethnicity, geography, traditions, and
customs conditions. Moreover the housing conditions are also influenced by
several factors which may determine the quality of the residence living
environment such as facilities that support the implementation of physical
health, mental health, social well-being for individual and families and also
security condition.
There are varieties of housing types including the shape and style of the house
between each regions of community, this is caused by several factors, namely:
1. Community social economic status, marked by revenue, availability
of building materials which is available to gather or purchased and
many more. It is clear there are more healthy housing can be found
in a prosperous social economic area compared to the low social
economic status area.
2. Environmental factors, there quite a big difference betwwen houses
in large cities compared to houses in rural areas, this is mainly
caused by the differences of environmental condition including the
surrounding environments, public facilities access, social condition
and also education.
4
3. Culture, diverse of cultures in Indonesia also be the main problem
of differenciation of house style in Indonesia. Each region has their
own culture which influence the housing style and materials on
each region.
I.3 Purpose
a) To understand the definitions, requirements, criteria, and healthy
homes standards and regulations which are used in the house
construction through the design process approach including the
ability to analyze the condition of the house based on the
measurement and visualization of the building, the external
(environmental and infrastructure) and internal aspects and also
physical, engineering, and space aspects.
b) To share information for public consumption so that the comunity
can understand and learn about healthy house construction and it’s
benefits
c) To analyze a house and provide suggestions how to renovate the
house based on the healthy house regulation standards.
d) To persuade the community to renovate or design a healthy house.
I.4 Problem Limitation
In order to be classified as a healthy home, the physical, chemical and
biological aspect in the house need to be in a suitable for living condition in
order to support the occupants to reach optimal health at all times. Therefore,
in order to meet the requirements, we need to observe throrough the house to
discover wether it already fullfill all the aspect or not, then if it hasn’t fullfill
the aspect we did possible renovation to get the house condition as close as
possible to the healthy house requirements.
The size of the house is never considered as an obstacle to fullfill the healthy
house requirements. Extra aspect such as the external and internal condition is
the aspect that also need observation. Referring to our object house, we can
conclude the surrounding and internal environment doesn’t support a healthy
lifestyle such as no span between house and street, street level is higher than
5
the house and the badly planned room arrangement. Therefore by looking at
the external and internal aspect we can already conclude that our subject house
is considered as an unhealthy house.
I.5 Writing Benefit
Being abble to describe and implement healthy housing.
Obtaining more knowledge about building construction.
Understanding how to predict and make the bill of quantity.
Being able to apply the guide for future implementation.
