GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION

GOD loves YOU “For God so loved the world that he gave his

perish, but have everlasting life.” -John 3:16

You are a sinner. “For all have sinned and come short of the

glory of God.” -Romans 3:23

The Holy Spirit convicts YOU of sin. “And when He is come,

He will reprove the world of sin.....because they believe not on

me.” -John 16:8-9

Your response is to repent of sin. “For I am not come to

call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” -Matthew 9:13

Trust in Christ as Savior. “That if thou shalt confess with thy

mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God

hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with

the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the

mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall

call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 10:9, 10, 13

Grow in Christ by following through with baptism and uniting

with a church. You will find new Christian friends and grow

From Donnie’s Desk; Merry Christmas!! There is so much to love about this season and this time of year here in the mountains! Already there are decorations and lights and festivities taking place as the celebration of the birth of our Savior begins. It has been amazing to watch our team of decorators as they have worked for days making our facilities look beautiful…lights twinkling, trees adorned, garland hung, wreaths carefully placed… If you have ever been a part of a hanging of the greens service, then you know that each of the decorations has deeper spiritual meaning that points to the birth of our Savior. The evergreens, the lights, the colors used all represent aspects of God’s permanence and provision for us through the birth of Jesus. My hope and prayer for us this season is that in every gathering, every service, every musical event, every class party we will see and experience the beauty and wonder of our Savior in a fresh and new way! This week we begin our Christmas celebrations as a church family. Each Sunday in December we will look at and study one facet of the Christmas story and sing a Christmas Carol that speaks to the reality of the story. From longing for the arrival of Immanuel to the joyful shout of “Joy to the

World” we will take this journey through the greatest story ever told and find deep meaning for our hearts and lives in the process. Our music ministry is hard a work preparing for two presentations of their Christmas musical, “Peace Has Come”. The first presentation will take place on Saturday night December 22 and the second presentation will happen on Sunday morning December 23 during our morning worship service. It’s going to be a beautiful and moving time of worship, reflection, and celebration of the birthday of our Prince of Peace! Of course, we will join together for a beautiful candlelight service on Christmas Eve as we sing carols and read the Christmas Story as a church family. This is one of my favorite services each year! There is much more happening at HSBC during this season… Second Mile preparing to give out food and baskets to those in need, the Lottie Moon Christmas offering that helps carry the gospel message to the uttermost parts of the world, thousands of shoe boxes filLED with gifts and the gospel are being sent out to children around the world…. So…Merry Christmas! Sharon and I love y’all and are so excited about celebrating the birth of our Savior together again this year. Blessings, Donnie

Ignite Students and Families,

On Wednesday Nights, December 5th

-

12th, we will be finishing the series The

Greatest, a series about what Jesus said

matters most.

Sometimes following God feels a

little complicated. With so many

rules to remember, prayers to pray,

and guidelines for how we’re

supposed to live, it’s easy for it all to

feel overwhelming. In this series, as

we look at how Jesus kept faith

simple, we’ll see that it’s really all

about doing one thing—the greatest

thing.

Dec. 5: Move people from a category

to a conversation.

Dec. 12: Let Jesus lead you toward

love.

Dec. 19: Ignite Christmas Party

Dec. 26/Jan. 2: No Ignite Youth

(Christmas Break)

See you at 6:00 PM on Wednesday

THE FIVE SENSES OF

CHRISTMAS By Reggie Joiner

Christmas appeals to my five senses. Think about

it: All you have to do is...Play a few melodies of

Bing Crosby. Burn a candle that smells like

evergreen. String some multi-colored lights on any

object in your yard. Add a little peppermint to

your Starbucks. Cut some paper and arrange a silk

bow on a box. Bake a gingerbread cookie in the

shape of a snowman. …and suddenly everyone

knows it’s Christmas.

Somewhere along the way, Christmas has become

a very powerful brand. And I’m just fine buying it.

I actually like the idea that everything around me

says it’s Christmas. (I’d also agree Christmas has

been too commercialized, but that’s another issue

for another bah humblog.) For the moment, I

would like to simply point out that there is

something wonderful about the way this season

tastes, looks, sounds, feels, and smells.

I find myself humming songs I would hate any

other time of the year, wanting to eat more than I

normally would, and gazing with amazement at

the creativity of the decorations in my neighbor’s

yard. The transformation of my surroundings into

a magical winter experience gives me a temporary

escape from my normal existence.

With everything else it brings, this season also

gives me a sense of optimism and hope. Yes, of

course I believe the most important thing about

Christmas is the story of the birth of our Savior

who came to redeem the world. But I also believe,

either on purpose or by accident, that many

unexpected elements of our culture have

captured the essence of what Christmas is really

about.

Giving...Festivity...Compassion...Hope...Celebratio

n...Forgiveness...Joy

From Dickens’ classic The Christmas Carol to

Schulz’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, the story of

Christmas shows up over and over again in

thousands of different songs, movies, lights,

decorations, presents, and even recipes. For all

the negative things you can say about the

commercialization of Christmas, I still love most of

what our society has done to celebrate this

message.

This is THE one time of the year that …Many who

are broken will try to start over. Families who are

separated strive to reconnect. Everyone thinks

harder about those who are hurting. The entire

planet is reminded that God showed up to save

the world.

I am not sure who or when it was decided what

Christmas would look, sound, taste, feel or smell

like. But I know for sure when I wake up and step

into the world tomorrow it will be Christmas

everywhere I go. And the story of Christmas will

be everywhere too.

Christmas forces us to pause for a few days and

confront the most compelling epic of restoration

and redemption. So instead of becoming a cynic,

skeptic, or scrooge because someone has

effectively branded the season, invite your family

to breathe in the essence of Christmas. Engage all

of your senses and experience the magic of the

greatest story ever told.

Schedule may vary due to holidays but normal hours are every Monday, 10 – 1 PM.

Stop by the information center and pick up a list of food items needed.

Second Mile Ministry was able to provide Thanksgiving baskets to many families on Monday; so many that we ran out of all of the turkeys and most of the food! On December 19 we will do it all over again with Christmas baskets! Now we have to ask again that you check the list at the Welcome Center and donate food or money for the families we will serve for Christmas. Our community is blessed through the generous giving of our HSBC family. THANK YOU!!! The volunteers of Second Mile
