A Dream Come True Author Unknown

In the middle of the night;I awaken.Dreams on my mind;Love in the make'n.Was it the kiss;moisture on my lips.Or maybe the goosebumpsfrom the caress of your fingertips?Hear the poundingof my heart beat.Love surroundingthe night in heat.Never fails, my dreams of you;To awaken by love that is true.I don't mind my nights awake;when it's dreams of you that I make. Those dreams are made-up ofwhat lies inside.A swollen heart of love; You're my joy and that I pride.I can't think of a better reason why;You stole my heart,You caught my eye.And so long as I have you;I have a dream come true.

Letter from the Editor

The summer months are filled with birthdays with my Flothe family. My mother-in-law, Cheryl, celebrated hers with my niece, Elise, at the end of June. My sister-in-law, Laurie, celebrated in July along with my son, Jake, and nephew, Corbin. The funny thing is that Cheryl and Elise are one day apart in June along with Jake and Corbin in July. I've seen this occur in many families, some have all their birthdays in one month of the year. I'd like to think it has to do with the connection we have to each other. What are your thoughts? Do you have family with close together birthdays? Leave a comment via Social Media...I'd love to hear your story!

Be sure to visit and welcome Tamra Nashman with www.Extra-OrdinaryImage.com, as she is one of my newest clients and shares her passion for finding ways to perfect your image, inside and out. This month enjoy our giveaway from www.366Hearts.com, they will be offering a commissioned Heart Quote Handmade Card. Enter on our giveaway page for your chance to win.

Today my dad and mom are here with me at the sea…so happy! After four days without them, I have to say I miss them. Just a little, because my grannies were really super. Thanks granny Paola and thanks granny Lucia, I adore you!

I’m wearing my fantastic FLAMINGO HAT that my mom found at ZARA and that I like a lot. In addition to the hat with pink flamingos, a colored shirt and a pair of denim shorts. What else? My new and super glam NATURINO shoes. I don't need anything else. Kisses, laughter, sun, sea, serenity… Here is my outfit for today. What do you think? - Fiammetta

Neiman Marcus has a great article on their website suggesting there are ways to wear white year round. You can lighten it up with delicate lace. Pair white with over-the-top patterned layers or wear a complete head-to-toe white outfit. Add some bold, trompe l'oeil prints and vivid color pops. And don't forget to wear some stylish shoes to add excitement to any outfit.

Q: How can I Improve my Life without getting burnt out?A: Do Something Simple Every Day

The concept that little things matter is a somewhat basic idea. When you face a choice, you can take a simple positive action. Or you can take a simple negative action. Simple actions, repeated over time, will determine the life you will lead.

The little things that lead to success are easy to do, and easy not to do. They can be as simple as being impeccable with your word, having a positive mental attitude, and always doing your best. The steps can be very small -- as small as choosing a different response in the moment.

You will find that small actions compound over time. For example, if you exercise for an hour a day, you won't see much difference after a couple of days or even a week. But after a couple of months you will notice a big difference. A little effort each day will result in huge rewards over time. If you read just ten pages of a good book every day, it might not seem like a lot. But after one year, you will have read more than two dozen 150-page books! It is the same with learning another language, playing a musical instrument, or improving at a sport. A little practice each day will result in huge rewards over time.

Action: What simple activities can you do today to become the person you want to be a year from now?

Salmon is a favorite dish in Alaska as so many Alaskans catch their limits over the summer. This is my favorite way to cook salmon and I know you’ll love it, too!

Ingredients:1 pound salmon fillets1/3 cup soy sauce1/4 cup brown sugar1/4 cup olive oil2 teaspoons lemon pepper2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions:1. Whisk soy sauce, brown sugar, olive oil, lemon pepper, and garlic in a shallow dish. Lay salmon fillets in dish, skin side up in. Cover and marinade in the refrigerator 4-8 hours or overnight.2. Preheat oven broiler and set rack around 6 inches from heat. Remove salmon from marinade and arrange on a baking sheet, skin side down. Discard marinade.3. Cook the salmon under the broiler until lightly browned and the flesh flakes easily with fork, about 7-10 minutes. Allow salmon to rest 5 minutes before serving.4. Note: I like to add several tablespoons of lemon or lime juice to the marinade and reserve some marinade to baste the salmon with as it broils. The skin should just peel off the fillets after they’re cooked!

I met my friend, Carolyne Rodriguez, at one of the Social Media Classes I offer at Calistoga Cafe. She has an amazing personality and we started working together to put a social media plan in place for her successful Lifestyle and Coaching business.

Carolyne helps educate people on how to get into shape and make a difference in their lives with Isagenix products. She also participates in many fundraising events with her team. With their generous hearts they've contributed to the Uniform Project their church is undertaking to help outfit 450 kids with school uniforms. For more information visit the donation website. www.meganinthedr.com

Recently she was honored to be included in Think and Grow Rich For Women, a book by Sharon Lechter. I'm looking forward to reading the book and her story. The book is for all women seeking to create their ideal lives.

On Carolyne's Facebook page, www.fb.com/choosewellnow, you will find inspirational and motivational quotes, links to her latest seminars, and health tips. She'll also be interviewed soon on David Wood's Podcast The Amplified Network. Make sure to check it out.

My friend, Allyson Spellman, with Unleash Your Voice, had a program called Self-Worth Summer that she offered on Facebook. I really enjoyed all the lovely quotes and motivational information she provided. One of my new friends in the group shared a quote from 366Hearts Fan page and I was hooked. I sent a message wondering if I could feature their art in this month's magazine and was excited they offered a giveaway too.

Here is the interview with Artist Hazel McNab...

How did you get started in the art industry?I have a degree in Fashion and Textiles from St Martins School of Art in London. I don't really feel I have entered the Art industry yet, but I'm loving painting my daily hearts.

What inspired you to do the heart artwork? My inspiration for the hearts was a previous facebook challenge of '30 days of creativity.' I enjoyed it so much I wanted to do a longer project. I chose hearts because they're so versatile and popular. I began on Valentine's Day 2012. I intended it to be a year-long project, and as it was a Leap year it became 366Hearts. I see it as such a positive, enjoyable experience that I re-set my goal to 1000.

Who is your inspiration?I will have to say my mum, Rosi McNab. She was a language teacher, who at the age of 50, became a very successful author of language books for schools, revolutionizing the way languages were taught in class.

I hope to pleasantly surprise people each day with my hearts. They can be whimsical, deep, simple, or funny.- Hazel McNab

Realistically speaking, family trips can be fun and memorable or they can be a pain! The secret to keeping everyone happy on a family trip is planning, organization, entertaining, and flexibility. Here are some tips to keep it fun for everyone:

Have a Plan

Ask kids for input on travel routes and activities. If they’re vested in the trip, they will be more interested. And bring a map and notebook so kids can have fun tracking and journaling their adventures.

Make sure the hotel has the right configuration of rooms and beds for the family. Most hotels have collapsible cribs and rollaway beds---if you let them know in advance. And double-check with hotels before you arrive to make sure your requests are being carried out.

Choose hotels with pools, especially inside. Swimming gives kids and family a chance to unwind in the evening---and everyone will sleep better!

On road-trips, budget extra time for stops along the way so kids can blow off energy. And remember most people will need to stop within an hour or two of eating and drinking!

Bring young children’s favorite blankets and pillows to keep travel as normal as possible. And airplane window seats are perfect for kids and nursing moms.

Be Organized

Buy plenty of quart and gallon zip-locs for keeping together toys, art accessories, clothes, electronics, snacks, and more.

For small kids, package each day’s outfits in gallon zip-locs and bring an extra set for emergencies. This saves time spent digging in suitcases. Also keep wipes and paper towels handy for cleanups.

On road trips, have a smaller suitcase to take into hotels with essentials for the night rather than dragging in bigger bags each night. Kids can also take their overnight needs in their own backpacks or smaller suitcases.

Bring small containers of laundry soap and spotter for sink wash-ups in the hotel in-between clothes washing days. Also, a little clothes line with clips to rig up in the bathroom is always helpful.

Make Entertainment a Priority

Avoid the dreaded, “I’m bored!” by bringing something to keep the kids occupied while traveling.

Tried and true electronic games are always good—bring those you know kids will play for hours at a time and download movies on tablets or other electronics. Don’t forget headphones for all!

Assemble art and drawing supplies in big zip-locs. Depending on ages; color books, spiral notebooks, and crayons or colored pencils (with sharpener) can give kids hours of fun. Kids can use their notebooks to write letters or draw pictures for friends and family or for journaling about their trip. Don’t forget to bring some interesting books---fiction or non-fiction.

Fun car travel games are License Plate Bingo (or just counting license plates from each state), I’m Thinking of an Animal (or other object), and I Spy. And the car’s a good place to tell family or life stories.

Be Flexible

“Don’t sweat the small stuff!” Plans can change and travel’s less hectic when you aren’t on a regimented schedule.

Have fun and make some memories!

Austin can't climb trees right now, but his brother, Robert, is at the top of the above tree and Austin is at the base of the tree with his wheelchair. Brothers take in the grand view of Alaska and the amazing crisp air.

To learn more about Austin Ervin visit www.facebook.com/austinervinhealing

My nephew, Robert, currently lives here in Florida and recently graduated from the Fort Myers Teen Challenge program. He has made remarkable progress towards a better life and decided to enter the program after my nephew, Austin, had his accident in Alaska. They both have been through rehab and continue to strive for improvements. We consider them our miracles.

In July, Robert was able to take a trip to Alaska to join his brother, Austin. Here are beautiful words from their mom, Tina...There’s no other love like the love from a brother. Austin's big brother, Robert, is visiting from Florida. Austin took his first weekend vacation away from home. They went down to Kenai to a Team Builder at Lance's. On the way home they stopped at the Wildlife Conservation and Alyeska to ride the tram. Austin's little dog, Turbo, continues to be a perfect companion!

I’ve lived in Alaska most of my life and know what a wonderful place it is. Lately, with all the Alaska TV shows and tourism ads, everyone has the 49th State on their bucket list! Alaska’s the biggest state (bigger than Texas), with a smaller population than Rhode Island, the smallest state. We have the tallest mountain in North America, Denali; and myriad lakes, glaciers, and mountains. It’s sort of like the Grand Canyon---you have to see it to appreciate it.

Alaska has its roots in Alaska Native and Russian Culture, as well as mining activity. Alaska Native people have been here for thousands of years; the Russians maintained a colony in Alaska from 1732-1867; and the U.S. purchased the territory in 1867 for $7.2 million. Alaska became the 49th state in 1959. An Alaskan trip takes some pre-planning, as all of the state isn’t accessible by road. There’s much to do and see, but often not enough time. Rather than research books and many internet sites, I suggest you visit the Official State of Alaska Vacation and Travel Information website http://www.travelalaska.com/. This site is extensive and includes pictures, covers all modes of travel in the state, places to go and stay, maps, tours, things to do, and more. There’s a link to order the Alaska Vacation Guide/Trip Planner and you can even get the Travel Alaska App for your electronic device from the App Store.

If you were to see the whole state, it would be a “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” sort of travel plan, with some boats thrown in! Some people start their trip on a cruise ship or ferry from Seattle or British Columbia, enjoying Southeast Alaska along the way. In a few days they can continue via bus, train, or car from Whittier or Seward to see South Central and part of Interior Alaska. There are also commercial flights to Southwest Alaska, the Aleutian Chain, or the North Slope.

Many people drive the Alaska Highway through Canada on their Alaskan trip. It’s a good way to see all the sights, towns, and wildlife from the road. If you decide to drive the “Alcan,” as Alaskans call it, make sure to purchase the Milepost, the Alaska Travel Planner. It’s a great guide for road information, ferries, camping, fishing, sightseeing, maps, mileage, gas stations, and other info. It’s available from Amazon, so don’t leave home without it!

There’s so much to do in Alaska! Fishing and hiking are some of the most popular activities. And the bravest surf, paddle, kiteboard, or kayak waves in Alaskan waters. Many people just take to the highways to see the beautiful state first-hand.

No matter how long your visit to Alaska lasts, I’m sure you’ll take home memories that will last a lifetime!

July Appsby Nicole Flothe

I love downloading new apps for the month. It gives me a chance to really take a look and see what's interesting. The first app this month was from an online recommendation that Yahoo! had---a beautiful Weather! app. The next app, Behance, is a place to discover artists and graphic designers, at least that's why I use it. Two new apps I enjoy are VidLab and Cinamatic for short video editing. Then Angry Birds Rio, Hooked On, R Adventure, and SpeakaZoo are fun games the kids and I can enjoy. The last one I added was Elevate. It provides brain games, which I find intriguing. They have three games you play to start and then come back tomorrow to continue to increase your brain function. Now this I'm looking forward to. Have you found any new apps? Be sure to share with us online!

There are sites available that cater to a more specific group like Christian Mingle, which will match you up with others looking for faith-based relationships, and Our Time matches singles over 50. Single Parents have sites available just for them, as do Farmers, Athletes and many more. There are a bunch of apps available that make it even easier to check out people you may be interested in and contact using the app like Tinder, OK Cupid, and Zoosk. Be sure you are

careful and watch for signs of a Catfish (online dating scammers) and do your research. Dr. Phil, Love is Respect and wikiHow have some good tips and information to help.
