Congratulations to Miss Smith‟s class (R10) for a wonderful assembly on Thursday. Well done! All the students performed so confidently and with flair. The audience enjoyed hearing about „space facts‟ and „Aliens love underpants. The dancing was pretty spectacular as well! A great performance, well done!

The assembly acknowledged all of the parent helpers who assisted the school during the Athletics Carnival. This was a sensational effort and we would like to sincerely thank each of those parents who volunteered some time to help with the sausage sizzle and/or setting up the carnival at the beginning of the day. Thank you also to all of the parents who came along to support their child/ren in the various events. It was a great day! Thank you to Mr Batskos and the team who coordinated such a day!

Returning to Eddystone Primary School Forms (Mainstream Parents) Please don‟t forget to return your forms to the offices as soon as possible as this will assist in the formation of classes and staffing for 2016. Please try to get them into the office by Monday 21 September 2015. Interschool Athletics - 18 September 2015 - Beldon Primary School Don‟t forget to come along to the interschool athletics carnival on Friday. It is going to be a great day so come along and cheer for our school. Community Engagement Eddystone Primary School is a wonderful school. It has professional and committed staff who work hard to develop the academic and social skills in all of our students.

A commitment to our community engagement was our „Learning Journey‟. Wasn‟t it a fantastic evening? It was pleasing to talk to parents who all provided me with positive feedback about the school and were very proud of the work and high standards achieved by their children.

It was also pleasing to hear the choir and see the parents challenging their children in a „friendly‟ game of soccer in the undercover area, great fun!

Our school is committed to developing our community engagement. We realise that in order for students to be successful, we need the support of the parents. By involving yourselves in the school, you have a better understanding of how to assist your child with their learning.

As a community we also would like to develop friendships amongst our families. In our busy lives, how many of you take the time to get to know each other? This is the essence of a community and this is something that I would like to foster and develop. An idea that we are exploring, is setting up regular community events such as picnics and BBQS, friendly tennis matches and parent/student soccer and cricket matches. We are also exploring the idea of a “Drop and Chat” centre in the school, where we will set up an area that parents/carers can go after you have dropped your child/ren off in the morning. You can meet with other parents for a coffee and friendly chat. If you like this idea, please let me know?

Our school has set up a „Sense of Community‟ Committee and at the moment staff members are the only ones involved, it would be great to have some parental involvement too. Please let me know if you‟d like to be involved.

P&C News

School Uniform In keeping with our high standards, I would like to remind you that our school uniform code was developed by the parents in the P&C and School Council. At the moment, we are having a number of items that aren‟t endorsed by the School Council creeping into the normal usage with students.

For instance, girls are not to wear tights or leggings without having a skirt. This item also needs to be navy blue and not black.

If students are not in full uniform, your teachers will be sending home a little reminder. Unfortunately, your child will not be able to go on any excursion or carnival unless they are in full school uniform and that includes the school hat.

A proud school uniform helps to create a sense of identity and sense of belonging for our students. While the standard at this school is very good, I would be loathed to see a lack of consistency emerging. Your support would be appreciated. Web Site: www.eddystoneps.wa.edu.au Have you see our wonderful web site lately? Sue Street in the office has been making changes and it looks very slick and professional. Thank you so much Mrs Street. If there are any parents who are quite handy with the camera, we would love some professional photographs as promotional material for the school. If you can assist, please let me know.

I love the following quote from Aristotle. It highlights the need to be purposeful with learning in order to yield results. Students need to accept that learning can be difficult but the rewards can be tremendous. Have a wonderful week-end.

“The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet”- Aristotle. Thank you Mr Biemmi
