DAY ONE

Departing early from Las Vegas, our first stop will be Pipe Springs National Monument to experience an authentic outpost that has been used for centuries by the Paiute Indians and early European explorers. We’ll enter Zion National Park from the East Entrance and into the incredible high country of Zion including Checkerboard Mesa and the Zion Canyon overlook point. Descending into Zion Canyon through a near century old tunnel is unforgettable! Follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers walked and gaze up at massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink, and red that soar into a brilliant blue sky. Experience Zion’s unique array of plants and animals that will enchant you as you absorb the rich history of the past. In the afternoon you will have free time to explore the trails along the Virgin River and into the higher trails overlooking the canyon floor, the visitor’s center to join a National Park Ranger on a guided walk. The sky’s the limit in Zion!

Overnight at Zion Park Lodge, or Springdale, AZ hotel

DAY TWO

After an early start our journey will take us to the Mountain Meadows Massacre Site, the location of a tragic event that still haunts the local Mormon inhabitants. Several members of the local population, dressed as Indians, set upon a group of westward bound Arkansas migrants. Cathedral Gorge State Park is next with a short walk into the narrow maze of canyons where erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft clay. The park’s beauty began with explosive volcanic activity that deposited layers of ash hundreds of feet thick with each eruption. Heading west into the Great Basin Desert, the route travels along the Extraterrestrial Highway to the UFO outpost of Rachel, Nevada. Wild horses are common along this isolated stretch of highway, and the historic town of Tonopah is a relic of the past. Another highlight is a visit to Rhyolite Ghost Town, once a bustling mining town of 5000 that had schools, a hospital, a thriving red light district, and even an opera house. You’ll feel the history of way back when! As we continue on to Death Valley National Park, our tour makes a gradual descent into this ancient seabed past vast sand dunes and old Borax Works to Furnace Creek. The Visitors Center offers a range of exhibits and presentations from NP Interpretive specialists.

Overnight at The Oasis Inn

DAY THREE

After an optional sunrise experience at Zabriskie Point overlooking Golden Canyon and stunning views of the vast valley below, we’ll spend the morning exploring the heart of this incredible Park. After a short walk at the lowest point in North America, Badwater Basin, 292 feet below sea level, we’ll view Devil’s Golf Course, Artist’s Palette drive and Dante’s View, and finally Shoshone at the southern end of the park for a memorable ice cream stop. Shoshone is located in a shady grove of Mesquite trees known as Metbury spring and was founded in 1910 by Ralph Jacobus Fairbanks, a Death Valley prospector, freighter and entrepreneur interested in establishing businesses along the station stop of the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad. The journey back into Las Vegas takes us through Pahrump and Red Rocks Canyon into to glittering lights of the Las Vegas Strip!
