Background

The Hydro-Engineering Institute is established by Council for Science,Education and Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the Universityof Sarajevo, Civil Engineering Faculty at 1954. In the last more than 50years, the Hydro-Engineering Institute has employed 32 Doctors of Scienceand 18 Masters of Science, together with a large number of engineers ofdifferent professions, as well as other profiles of experts. During theprivatization process the Institute has been transformed in the private

shareholder company.

Clients and capacities

Today, HEIS team is made of 62 highly-motivated team players, and morethen half of them are young and high educated experts in differentengineering disciplines, economy and legal. HEIS research and consultancywork in field of water engineering and environmental management aredesigned to satisfy the needs of different clients such as public watermanagement companies, public utilities and other companies, ministries,municipalities, and industry. On the 2004 Human and Institutional CapacityDevelopment conference, the Institute has received the USAIDs Award forExcellence in Legacy and Indigenous Capacity Building for best practice inModern Training Techniques with Water Utility Boards. The Institute hasawarded with highest award of City of Sarajevo for 2006 for its contributionto science and technical development in field of environmentalmanagement.

Core competenceThe Institute's scope of work includes scientific and research activities,education, planning, and consulting services from the domain of water and

environment management. The Institute cooperates with governmentalinstitutions and other engineering companies working in the field of water

management and environmental protection. In accordance with the modernEuropean and World trends, the Institute promotes and developsinternational cooperation on different levels.
