SCOTLAND?

Wh)' is evangelism end nevchurch planting necessary in theUnited Kingdom today?

Scotland is now £POST-Christian nation. Probablyonly 3T. of Scotsmen attend anychurch on an average Sunday morning.

r,

Christian Churches/Churchesof Christ have DECLINED,

had

In 1926,they had a membership of 3,000.Today, they number barely more than17fj hardly an effective witness in£ nation of 6 million people.

SSIifef^^Other religious groups likethe Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses andMuslims are growing rapidly.

iSisMT....is not lost. Thecu..t6 and occult can grow showing ehunger for spiritual leadership intheir lives. With God's help Hischurch can grow there as well.

BE A PART OF OUR MINISTRY

Throughout the New Testament wesee examples of people helping tofurther the progress of the Gospel. Some went personally to work in £foreign field. But they were notalone - - others were behind them

working in supportive roles that werejust as important. Some devotedthemselves to prayer on behalf of thework, others were kind encouragers, while still others were able to helpfinancially. Each personcarried on a vital ministryspread of the Gospel.

We feel strongly thatstill working through Hisroday. He has given us andesire to go as missionarieslost. But we believe our efforts will

only be a success if there ere thosein the family of God who are backingup our efforts in these supportiveroles.

If you desire to be an activepart of our ministry then fill out thecard below and mail it to us.

July 1989

Dear Friends, Relatives, Brothers & Sisters in Christ

Greetings in the Lordf!! fts you can see, July 1 has come and goneand we are still here in the United States. There are several reasonsfor this:

PLEftSE PRftY EARNESTLY FOR THESE NEEDS!!

We have had a very busy month in June with VBS and all the summerprograms beginning. We were the missionaries for the week of VBS herein Michigan City and Jeanne taught a class of Jr. High age children, several of whom are considering making decisions for Jesus. Pray forthern. The following week we helped canvass doov^-to-door in the area ofthe church taking a survey to help us assess the changing needs of theneighborhood. We had a good response.

We are preparing to go to the North Rmerican Christian Conventionnext week. Pfter that we will be at a camp in Howard, PR for a weekthen on to Massachusetts and New Hampshire to speak at several churchesthere. We will be gone nearly one month. Pray that God will use us toglorify Hirn and that we will increase our support base.

We have postponed our target date until January 1. Those of youwho are sending support now, please continue to do so as this is themeans by which we can go to other churches and present the work inScotland- It is impossible to travel and hold down a job at the samet irne.

We still believe that it is the Lord's will that we go to Scotlandand are working in that direction. When His time is right the doorswill open. Until that time we will continue to work for Him where weare and share with others in His Body the needs in Scotland in hopesthat we will soon be enabled to go,

September 1989

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Well, it is us again! It is hard to believe it is alreadySeptember. We are back from the East coast and almost caught up withall we got behind in. Let us fill you in on what has taken place sinceour last newsletter.

1. Finances

We secured another $70.00 per month in committedsuppport. That puts us at about $725.00 per month committed. ,Our need is about $2,800.00 per month. As you can see, wehave a ways to go. We would like to remind you to please befaithful if you have committed an amount already. Myposition as Interim Associate Minister here will be endingsoon. If everyone sends in what has been committed on aregular basis I will be able to work full time traveling to •raise the remainder of our support. We have booked our planereservations for January 16, 1990 and they must be paid forby December 17, 1989. We don't have all the support yet butwe know that God will provide. One reason we booked ourtickets now is because of the price war. We were able toreduce our one-time need for transportation by severalthousand dollars by booking now. Please pray that the Lordwill provide these funds. If you have been consideringsupporting us please let us know so that we can planaccordingly.

2. Victories

While we were the missionaries at Sylvan Hills camp inHoward, Pennsylvania, the week after the N.A.C.C., we wereproud witnesses to the 11 decisions that were made for theLord. Those 11 decisions were from only A8 campers. That'sclose to 25% of the campers. Praise the Lord!) There were6 baptisms, 2 rededications and 3 committments to the missionfield. Praise God!

Jeanne was able to share, with the campers and alsoladies at a shelter in Connecticut, how God has worked inher life as a victim of sexual abuse.

I was able to share the needs in Scotland on manyoccasions.

We were both blessed by the many wonderful Christianpeople who shared their homes and lives with us during ourtrip. We are much richer for having met them!!l

Dear friends, we really need your prayers. As many of you know,we have been working for about 18 months to raise sufficient funds togo to Scotland. I can assure you that the hardest part of missionwork is raising support. I want you to know that we are not askingyou or your congregation to support Jeanne and I. We are asking youto do all that you can to support the work that God has commissionedus to do. Please pray that His will be done in our lives and thelives of the lost in Scotland.

Here is an update on the Henckel Clan:Terri Kay in on the field in Matamoros, Mexico working with Terry

and Stephanie Bowling as of August 29, 1989. Stephanie Bowlingsuffered a cerebral hemorrhage last month and the need for help thereis crucial. Please pray for them!!!

Pamela was unable to enter the service because of past physicalproblems. She is now living in Memphis, Tennesse with Kathi and J.D.Collins, her aunt and uncle. She is attending beauty college andtraining as a manager for Bominoes Pizza. She is doing great at both.

Charlie is living with us and finishing his last year of highschool. He works for Jiffy Lube as Senior Lube Technician. He hasjust purchased a 1963 Ford Falcon convertible and is enjoying itimmensely.

Now, for the blockbuster news! On August 25th, in a beautifulpark on the shores of Lake Michigan,, Melissa became the wife of Mr.Leroy Reagor. The time was stepped up because of Terri Kay'sdeparture for Mexico. There will be a renewal of vows for Missy andLeroy on October 7, 1989 at First Christian Church in Michigan City.At that time Jeanne and I along with Leroy's parents will also renewour wedding vows. Please keep Missy and Leroy in your prayers as theybegin their new life in Christ together.

Also, please pray for Jeanne and I as we try to adjust to havingthree children move away in one month.

Again, Jeanne and I thank you for your support, financially ,prayerfully and the letters of encouragement that you send. It meansso much to us. keep them coming.

Because He Lives;

We Are All Excited!

October 1989

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters,

Things are really starting to happen! We are pleased to announce that we havepurchased a car, washing machine and refrigerator in Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. GaryBarnes, who have been working with Robert in Forres for a while, have decided topursue an opportunity in Vienna, Austria. Gary called to see if we would beinterested in the above mentioned items. After discussion and prayer, we stepped outand purchased these items. We had budgeted these items in our one-time expense at$6,000,00. We were able to purchase these items for $1,025.00. PRAISE THE LORD!!!

As we reported in our last writing we were able to book flight on January 16that a substantial savings. Because of these doors being opened our one-time expenseis $13,000.00, instead of $22,000.00. Of the $13,000.00 we have about $5,000.00 onhand. We are in need of a real committment by all those who have been watching tosee if we are really serious. Folks, we are dead serious!!

As of October 1st, I will no longer be the Interim Associate Minister at First

Christian Church in Michigan City, Indiana. We praise God for the 13 months oflearning from Roy Goodlet, Senior Minister at First Christian, and for the patienceand love shown to us by the leadership and congregation there.

Because I will have no income it will be essential that our support grows. Iwill be on the road again talking to churches in order to raise support. Please prayfor me! We have tickets for January 16th that must be paid for by December 17.That's just less than three months from now. We will need to have assurance of oursupport before we can apply for our visa. At this time we have $800.00 per monthcommitted and we need $2,800.00 per month. We know that God can supply this need intime!!! He works through people like you to accomplish His Will, though.

You will notice we have enclosed a committment card with each letter. We would

like to ask you to seriously consider and pray about sacrificing the cost of one mealout at a restaurant each month, approximately $10.00, so that the people in Scotlandhave the opportunity to accept Jesus and spend eternity in heaven rather than hell.We in America are blessed beyond belief. Won't you consider sharing your spiritualand financial wealth to help someone else?

All support can be sent either to us at 311 1/2 Tremont St., Michigan City, IN46360 or to our forwarding agent. Bud Clapp, at Taking Christ to the Kingdom, PO Box62, Joplin, MO 64801-0062.

We praise God for each and every one of you. We know that you will be faithfulin seeking His Will in this matter.

Because He Lives,
