Election
Charles Thibodeaux will be the nextsheriff of St. Landry. The third racebrought him luck. He has contestedfor this office three times before andhas been defeated by only a smallmajority. He was lucky this time androlled up a majority that has not beenexeceeded for many years by a suc-cessful candidate for sheriff.
Mr. Thibodeaux made his rice on:a platform of strict enforcement ofthe law and his majority shows thathis platform was well received by thevoters.
The other successful candidate are:State Senator-Homer Barousse and
A. H. Mouton.Representatives-Gilbert Dupre,
Alex Lafleur. Neither the next twohighest men, J. Franklin Schell andJ. J. Lewis. received a majorityof the votes cast. In this case the lawrequires a second race. Mr. Dupre*received the greatest majority given

Jos'ph Esebe Frilot, colored keeeerof the hunter's camp .at Second Lakewas mistaken for a deer Mondaymorning while hunting near the campand was shot by C. P. Dunbar, dyinga short time later.
"Sebe," as he was known to practi-cally every hunter in this section,was guiding a party of hunters on adeer drive. The dogs had opened ona hot trail and "Sebe" cut in frontof them, running before in a crouchingposition, and when he came oppositethe stand of Mr. Dunbar his khakisuit and crouching position in thebushes led Mr. Dunbar to mistake himfor the deer. "Sebe" was shot twice,two buckshot of the first fire takingeffect in the head and the second loadfound lodgment in the back.
Frilot was a fine man and his deathis regretted by every man that ever
came in ccntact with him. He was th,special friend of the hunters and fistcrmen who made the Second Lakcountry their hunting ground.
Mr. Dunbar had hunted with "Sebefor many years and his regret an,sorrow over the accident is deep andmost sincere.
The body of the dead man wasbrought to Opelousas Tuesday after-noon and after services in the Catholicchurch "Sebe" was laid to rest in theCatholic cemetery.

HAD TROUBLE BEFORE
Late Sunday afternoon James Har-ison and Phillip Nicholson, negrocys residing on the Plaisance road,let on the Washington road and inhe fight that followed Nicholson washot through the head, dying in the)pelousas sanitarium early Mondaycorning. Some days before the ne-roes had a fight in Opelousas andhe killing was the result of this dif-iculty.Coroner Littell was summoned and
after investigation went to Harrison'souse to place him under arrest. He
ound Harrison lh bed, claiming thathe had been shot. Examination fail-ed to find any wounds and Harrisonwas ordered jailed.
Both negroes were about 21 yearsold.
