Dave and Nancy both taught at Sylvan Chris-tian elementary school, but at different times.Dave was quickly recruited by the principal atUnity, where he taught, coached, became assis-tant principal, and athletic director until he re-tired. He wasn’t content retiring, so when askedto work for the OK Conference he agreed, andloved that, as well. Nancy taught and then raisedtheir son and 2 daughters. She returned to teach-ing at Hudsonville Christian, and coached soc-cer and tennis.

Their love for sports carried on to their chil-dren and grandchildren. Many played highschool and college ball. A fun fact was that theywere able to go to 2 Rose Bowl Games.

They also loved to travel when they had thetime. Their favorite trip was with Ray VanderLaan going to Israel, and their trip to Turkey wasamazing, as well. Nancy loves all that she learned, and loves to share her stories. Thank you, Daveand Nancy, for sharing your life with us.

Dave and Nancy B.Dave grew up in midtown Holland and at-

tended Holland Christian, where he played onthe Basketball and Baseball teams. Nancy grewup in Jamestown in the house that was attachedto the general store. She loved sports, as well, es-pecially football. She said her nickname was“glue fingers” because of the way she alwayscaught the ball.

Both David and Nancy made their way toCalvin, Dave a year before Nancy. On the firstday of French class Dave was sitting in the backrow and saw the beautiful freshman Nancy comein and sit in the front row. As soon as class wasfinished Dave bolted to the front of the roomand walked with her and her friend. Nancy wasconvinced that he was interested in her friend. When her friend turned off, and he stayed withher and then asked her to have a Coke withhim, she was surprised. They have been togetherever since.

You have suffered through my favorite kinds of days:Dark, rolling clouds with rain and wind. Long days ofwinter gray. Glorious colors of October trees againstblack clouds of fall rain storms. Thank you for your pa-tience while I walked down the halls smiling from ear toear!

In return, I thank you for the sunshine of yoursmiles! How we have enjoyed gardening together and col-lecting flowers to fill our rooms with summer color. Thedelicious taste of your home-grown tomatoes as we nib-bled them. We loved sitting outside in the mellow breeze, watching the bird’s flit from tree to tree. Sometimes weglimpsed a rabbit or chipmunk hiding in the oft, greengrass. We gazed at the endless variety of clouds floating

through blue skies. We talkedabout anything and everything, and especially God’s incrediblecreation.

With a heavy heart I willleave you in April to travel toAlaska. But, I will bring withme all you have taught me. Iwill look forward to serving ourLord in a new place braced withmy trust in Him and your lovefor me. I will not go alone foryou will be in my heart always. And we will rejoice together ineternity!

With all of my love, Sharon

I never dreamed of moving to Alaska. Never. But af-ter visiting and returning home, I found a great desire toleave my home and move to this beautiful place withmountains and bears and moose! I felt guilty about thisuntil a dear friend told me “Maybe God put that desirein your heart!”

God works in amazing ways. Watching Him work inmy life reinforces my trust in Him. He brought me hereto Sheldon Meadows! Blessing upon blessings shower medaily working with all of you. We laugh, we cry, weFrackle, we craft, we sing, and we study His Holy Wordtogether. The Lord does not make mistakes. Being to-gether we love and support and encourage each other. Wehug, giggle, wink, and hold hands. We rejoice in His wis-dom, even without thinkingabout it. He brought us to-gether! Praise the Lord!

Thank you for letting me bea part of your lives. You wel-come me and allow me to be theoff-key singer. You laugh at mypunny humor and jokes. Actu-ally, we laugh together! You for-give my distractions when an an-imal enters the room. You trustme when we begin a craft thatmay look challenging or totallydifferent than any you havedone. We have decorated win-dows and bulletin boards andyour rooms!
