PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

Andrew Duchesne thanked all members for attending tonight’s meeting and thanked

Lyn Murphy for organising our Christmas luncheon.

Andrew advised that he wrote to Club Sapphire after receiving feedback from some

members regarding the Christmas luncheon. Andrew read out the letter from

Club Sapphire to members present.

Andrew thanked Lorraine Exell for this month’s newsletter and said he didn’t realise

we had so many wonderful bikes in the club.

On Saturday there were twelve (12) cars at the Nimmitabel Show and a great day was

had by all.

Andrew said, on a personal note, he was one of many people who paid a deposit on a

new car with Eden Motor Group who have shut their doors and disappeared – not a

pleasant experience.

Andrew welcomed Neil Wood to the front desk. Neil has agreed to take on the role of

Events Coordinator with the support of Garry Twyford – thank you to you both.

Who’s got new cars or sold cars??

Bob Whiting spoke of his experience ordering parts for his Chev from the States.

He was thrilled with all the parts he received and can’t wait to fit all the bits.

The Postage was horrific, next time Bob will fly over and pick them up!

GENERAL BUSINESS:

Alan Smith has a 1998 Toyota Corolla (Auto) for sale that has only travelled locally in

the valley, just 50,000km and is like brand new.

Please contact Alan on 02 6492 1277 for further details.

Barbara Black has an old Ford Falcon for free, you just have to come and pick it up.

Graham Peterson has offered to assist Barbara.

Barbara Black asked why a letter was sent to Club Sapphire without first asking

members. Lyn Murphy said that by sending a letter it was a reflection on her as she

organised the Christmas Luncheon. Andrew apologised for sending the letter but

was responding on feedback received from other members and Committee Members.

A misty foggy morning in Bega. A

pleasant drive through the Bemboka area,

but Brown Mountain was in cloud and

very moist to the top.

In Nimmitabel fantastic weather.

Arriving at the Nimmitabel Showground

we were met by other members who left

early to hold spots for everyone.

A huge crowd attended this large show

and lots of people looked at our cars with

the new Club Banners flying proudly.

Equestrian events, yard dog trials and

sheep shearing contest and exhibitions.

Also cattle and sheep judging with

wood chopping and chainsaw events.

11

The Cooma Car Club,

celebrating their

20th Anniversary year,

had many lovely vehicles

on display and once again

extended their invitation

to join them 6th & 7th April

on their

Over 50s Classic Rally.

12

In the hall were exhibits of photography,

flowers, produce, baking, bottles of fruit

preserves, jars of jam, marmalade, pickles

and chutney and even home brew beer as

well as a lovely array of handy craft and a

table of wool that had been judged. There

was much to keep the crowd entertained -

local musicians, dancing displays, wool

spinning and stalls had been set up.

By about two pm, after the chainsaw

racing, our members all started to

head home. A very pleasant day in the

sunshine was had by all.

With such a wide array of attractions

and an impressively large crowd, it is

no wonder Garry described it as the

best Nimmitabel Show ever!

Neil Wood assigned the parade running

order and collected details about each

vehicle for the Show Announcer.

We all followed Ray Ubrihien winding

through the streets of Bega to avoid

traffic lights and hill starts (was it to avoid

the possibility of stalling or overheating??).

Arriving near the entrance to the

Showground we joined an assortment of

four wheel drives and emergency vehicles

to await the call to enter.

The organisers thought this was the place

and time for us to engage in some ‘quiet’

meditation watching the thousands of fruit

bats circling and settling down in the trees

before their evening blitzkrieg on local

gardens and orchards.

Eventually the club column was

summoned.

15

We proceeded into the Showground

with the Announcer commenting on each

vehicle as we entered.

The lead vehicles collected dignitaries.

Our local member, Andrew Constance,

was the doorman.

This year the club vehicles were allowed a

full lap of the Showground before parking

in display mode opposite the main

grandstands.

There was a good crowd and they

appeared to show their appreciation for

our vehicles.

After parking club members dispersed to

various locations and displays.

Did we see Bob Russell on the dodgems

or was it the Death Swing?

Maybe next year we could suggest a good

use for some of the delicious exhibition

cakes would be to provide a cup of tea and

some cake for members (just a thought).

Our thanks to all club members who

participated and it is good to be involved

in such a great community event.

Our Thursday morning run was overcast

and a little humid as we headed out to the

Tathra Pub for lunch.

By the time we arrived the sun was shining

and the wind had picked up a little.

The view was beautiful, the ocean seemed

calm.

We had tables reserved inside for the

members. We ordered our meals and they

were ready to eat in no time.

Quite an array of choices on the menu and

as always we were not disappointed.

Linda and Dave Boardman went a

step further and had all salivating

when their Sticky Date Pudding

with butterscotch sauce, ice cream

and blueberries on the side arrived ...

YUMMO!! It was delicious.

Garry Thornton was on the prowl

writing up a list for fines throughout

the day. I hope everyone brings a pocket

full of coins to the next meeting, even

those who were unable to attend.

Conversations flowed throughout,

getting to know members we had not

met before and catching up with others.

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a

day ... great company, conversation and

food.
