Dear Town of Meeteetse,

We are writing to inform you of the upcoming changes with the Meeteetse Visitor Center. We hoped to hold a town meeting, however, recommendations by the Wyoming Department of Health and the Centers for Dis-

ease Control involving the COVID19 virus have made that impossible.

Our Director, Kristen Yoder, took on the director’s position temporarily in January to assist us with the Ice Fishing Derby. We were aware the position would be temporary due to other obligations starting in May. After advertising the position for director for several months, we did not receive any applications except Kristen’s.

She was hired permanently for the director position, however, she would have to do this from the hotel.

Due to significant monetary cutbacks from our main sources of income and the unknown numbers for tourism this summer and fall, we will have to creatively budget for the rest of 2020 and the entirety of 2021.

The Yoder family is purchasing the Vision Quest Motel and will be doing upgrades to the property. They have offered to temporarily lease out a large space at the hotel to the Meeteetse Visitor Center. This will cut

the utilities and rent costs by 40% or more and allow the MVC to stay open with a full time director. During this time, we will focus on events and activities that are the most profitable. This arrangement will allow the Com-munity Bulletin to stay in print, the Visitor Center to extend their hours, without extra expense and allow us to

continue to plan fun events once it is safe to do so.

The items from local artisans in our gift shop will be moved along with the Meeteetse Visitor Center. If any arti-san wishes to pick up their items, please email [email protected] to make arrangements.

We want everyone to know that this has been discussed meticulously and taken several months of reviewing other options before being voted into motion. We understand that many will have questions and concerns and invite you to voice them to President of the Board of Directors, Edward Porter. He can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at (302) 275-5021.

We hope you will continue to support the mission and efforts of the Meeteetse Visitor Center. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Sincerely,

The Meeteetse Visitor Center Board of Directors

Meeteetse Library is still closed to the Public. If you want books or movies give us a call (868-2248, M-F 8-4) and we’ll gather them up, check them out to you and hand them to you at the door. Or, if you don’t know exactly what you want, give us a call and tell us what you like and we’ll do our best to find books or movies to keep you happy. We are making a real effort to make sure our materials are safe for you to enjoy. All of our materials are cleaned & sanitized (as best we can) as they come in. They then go into a 3 day quarantine before they can circulate again. Inside the library we are washing our hands and cleaning surfaces multiple times a day. We had a large selection of Weeded and Donated books on the table outside the Library. And we were happy to see so many people coming and brows-ing, taking books and bringing books and magazines back. In normal times this would have been ideal! But … we are not in normal times. And so I was feeling uncomfortable with the idea of not being able to ensure that these items were “clean”. So we pulled them all. But now … we have a new Great Idea! We’ve got Grab Bags for you! They’re on the table outside the door.

To the Meeteetse Community: THANK YOU doesn’t BEGIN to express the way we feel about our Meeteetse Community and our appreciation for ALL that you have done for us in the last 20 years. We came to Meeteetse because of the small town feel we had when visiting family and that feeling has nev-er gone away, actually grew stronger over the years. In times of trials of a new business owner so many people stepped up to offer their assistance and support. We thank you for letting us be a part of your weddings, anniversary parties, birthday parties, funerals, library end of the year partiers, school functions, family reunions, community events and all the other times we gathered on our properties to celebrate and make memories! WE have learned so much about being a part of a community process and what makes a successful community, which has also helped in our personal lives. We value the opportunities we have had to be a part of committees and organizations that made Meeteetse a better community to live in. We all know that Meeteetse is Wyoming’s BEST KEPT SECRET! As a front-line business, we have heard over and over again from our guests “ I would love to live in this town!” Maybe small towns aren’t for everybody, but we are so grateful for God leading us to Meeteetse and all that we have been blessed with on this adventure. (Shhh...Your Secret is safe with us!) Although it is said you can’t claim to be a Wyomingite unless born in Wyo-ming, but we feel because we CHOOSE to live here, we can call Wyoming home and will always keep a home in Meeteetse! We love Meeteetse and ask for blessings on this Town as we move on to our next adventure… See ya on the Road! Bobby Joe and Sherry (former owners of Oasis Motel and RV Park & Vision Quest Motel & RV Park and now retired Meeteetse communi-ty Members)
