1. Scope The intent of this document is to define and explain the usage of Hero Integrated Diagnostic Instrument (HIDI) to be used by authorized vehicle service stations. The functional and performance requirements for the instrument are summarized in the document.

2. Contents of the Pack HIDI kit (Part No. HMCL0214AABA01) consists of:

1) HIDI: HERO Integrated Diagnostic Instrument 2) Battery : 7.4V, Lithium Ion Battery. This is present inside the HIDI assembly. 3) Battery Charger : ES – U109E51K00-CCVA, IP Voltage 90 – 270V AC, OP voltage 9.5 V @ 1A 4) USB cable

# Further, dealers would have to place order for HIDI- Wire Harness (Part No. HMCL0214AABA02) along with HIDI kit.

This HIDI- Wire Harness is used to connect vehicle with HIDI.

3. Interfaces HIDI can communicate over CAN, LIN, K Line communication networks. HIDI can interact with PC using USB connection. Xtreme is equipped with K line communication networks.

4. Functionality The HIDI has a display (4 X 20) characters and alphanumeric keypad as user interface.

The keypad will be of 5X4 matrix type (18 keys).

HIDI can be connected with a generic USB cable for connection with PC and can be connected to vehicle using HIDI- Wire Harness for diagnostics and troubleshooting purposes.

The display is meant for showing the information entered/ selected by the user from a menu. The HIDI supports the following functions:

(a) HIDI will communicate with the Immobilizer to pair the new Key(s) with vehicle. In simple terms, called as Key pairing activity.

(b) HIDI will communicate with the Immobilizer to pair with the CDI system, post authentication with the Immobilizer. In simple terms, called as CDI pairing activity

(c) HIDI will communicate with the Immobilizer to read and display the fault information stored in the Immobilizer. Response received from Immobilizer shall be used for displaying DTC (Diagnostic trouble Code) HIDI has capability to command Immobilizer to clear the faults (DTC).

(d) Firmware upgrade capability to enable HIDI to update software as per latest feature functionalities.

5. Appearance HIDI is as shown in picture below:

6. Detailed Functional Requirements The HIDI can be connected to any Windows PC with a USB port.

HIDI can be connected to the vehicle using a HIDI- Wire Harness that will connect to HIDI using a DB15 connector and to a 6 pin diagnostic connector on the vehicle side.

At any point of time, one of the above communications can be activated.

6.1. Communication with PC

First step of establishing communication between HIDI and PC should be done by installing appropriate USB drivers from the portal.

To download USB drivers: These files would enable your system to detect the HIDI.

1. Log-on to Business Partners Portal (BPP) by using your credentials (Username & Password):

2. On login, you will see “Authorization Code request system” in right hand side (RHS) of navigational menu. Application Initial Screen looks as shown below

3. On clicking the “Authorization Code request system”, tab- screen will pop up as shown below

4. Click on the link http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm available on “Authorization Code request system” tab- screen & a new tab will open.

5. If you scroll down the above page, you will find the installation files of the USB drivers based on your PC Operating system. Select and download the file based upon your operating system.

6. Step by step installation guidelines can be seen by clicking on the “Installation Guides” available in the link http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

8. Upon successful installation of the drivers, follow the simple steps given below to cross check whether the drivers are installed correctly: 1. Connect HIDI to PC USB port by using a USB cable 2. Go to “Device Manager” and check if the circled items are available in your PC

After successful installation of the USB Drivers,

• Download the “HIDI VIN and AC download tool.exe” file from the portal. This file enables you to download the AC (Authorization code) from your system to HIDI.

Double click on the link highlighted in screenshot above and save as the file with name as shown below with the extension “.exe” on your desktop.

After successful installation of the “USB Drivers” & “HIDI_VIN_ and _AC_Download_Tool.exe”, you are ready to use the HIDI tool PC applications-

Authorization Code downloads from HMCL Biz Portal via PC to HIDI.

6.2 Application Flow AC (Authorization Code) download procedure This application provides an entry screen to dealers/exports distributors using which they can raise the request to generate and hence download Authorization Code (AC). This AC is generated in an encrypted “.txt” file which is downloaded to a default location.

2. Please fill all required information which is marked as “*” as shown below.

3. After filling all the required entries, submit the details by pressing the button.

After submitting, a success message along-with the link to download file will be displayed as shown below.

4. After clicking the file download link, the file can be downloaded in your computer

5. Once you click-on “File download” click on “Save As” option (as shown below)

6. A new screen will pop-up on clicking “save as” option asking you to choose folder patch in your PC/ Laptop’s local drive.

You should save this file under C:\HIDI\ VINFiles, if the folder(s) is not created, please create the folder(s) first:

7. Automatically the name of the file will be same as enquired frame no.

8. Please select “VINfiles” folder under C:\ HIDI drive to save this file.

The downloaded file is encrypted and hence cannot be interpreted by the user.

NOTE: Authorization code once downloaded in system will expire in 4 hrs. Dealers need to regenerate a request for new authorization code from server, if vehicle has reported again after 4 hrs or Authorization Code not used within 4hrs once downloaded.

AC download procedure in HIDI

Click on “HIDI VIN and AC download tool. Exe” file saved by you on desktop & open the file which look like the screen shot attached below.

If relevant Authorization Code exists, the file detects and displays as below. Please select the relevant authorization code to be sent to HIDI based on requirement.

Before clicking on “START” button, please ensure that the HIDI is handled as below:

1. Connect the HIDI using USB cable to the PC

2. Connect charger to the HIDI

3. Make sure the Laptop is connected to AC charger to ensure the system does not go to Sleep / shutdown/ Hibernate modes

4. Press on “1) VIN download” option from the HIDI main menu

5. Press “Enter” on HIDI after checking PC connectivity

6. Press the “START” button on your system in the snap shot shown above.

6.3 Communication with Vehicle

To communicate with the vehicle, ensure the HIDI is fully charged prior to usage on the vehicle.

Also ensure all the VINs are available for the vehicles under repair.

Note: For fault diagnostics in vehicle, Authorization Code is not required to be downloaded from BIZ portal.

On power on, select “SELECT PLATFORM” option which will guide you to the models available. Select appropriate model. This will guide you to the VINs available with HIDI .The user shall select the VIN of the vehicle to which HIDI is connected. Following this, the HIDI shall display the menu options: ‘Learn Key’, ‘Pair with CDI’, ‘Fault Diagnostics’.

HIDI will send appropriate sequence of messages, depending on the menu option selected by user of HIDI. Result of the communication will be displayed on the screen of HIDI.

6.4 HIDI Operator Manual

To start up the HIDI, gently press the Power button on the Key pad to show the welcome screen

To shut down the HIDI, keep the power button pressed for 6 sec. HIDI will ask you to re-confirm shutdown. Press ENTER button to confirm. HIDI confirms the actions by displaying Shutting Down.

Next screen that comes up after the welcome screen is the Main Menu. The screen will show a menu with the below options:

Option I : VIN DOWNLOAD (from system to HIDI) This option allows the user to download the AC files into the HIDI. User need to connect HIDI with system using USB cable. 1. Click on “HIDI VIN and AC download tool. Exe” file saved by you on desktop & open the file which look like the screen shot attached below. Select the VIN file of the vehicle which need trouble shooting.

User need to select the Option 1 using the keypad or move curser ↑ or ↓ keys and press enter.

Upon selection, user will get another screen asking user to “Connect to PC and Press Enter” an START option on the system.

If there is any issue with the connectivity between HIDI and PC, HIDI displays a connection failure message on its screen. User needs to remove the USB connection and re-insert the USB cable. Wait for a minute for USB driver installation/ Confirmation to re-initiate the connection process. During the download process, HIDI displays “Download In Progress” screen Upon Successful completion of the download process, HIDI displays “Download Successful”. Option 2 : SELECT PLATFORM To enter this mode, please select option “2” using the keypad or move curser ↑ or ↓ keys and press enter. Please ensure to download VIN prior to selecting this option.

If VIN is present in the HIDI, select the VIN from the list available.

Post selecting the VIN list of options displayed on HIDI, User has to select one from the list of options displayed.

To diagnose, please select DIAGNOSTICS in the menu screen. Display screen will display the DTC (Diagnostic trouble Code) available in vehicle memory.

Please refer DTC trouble code chart to detect the defect code.

Press Enter to delete the DTCs. Press Any other button to go to previous menu.

On pressing the “Enter” display screen will show.

To pair the new Key(s)

Select the Option “2” by pressing the 2 or Press ↑ or ↓ keys to browse through list.

Insert Key 1 into the lock set – Choose option for Key pairing and press enter

HIDI will display “Key pairing successful” on successful pairing of key.

On successful pairing of 1st Key, Insert Key 2 and again choose Key pairing option

HIDI gain display “Key pairing successful” on successful pairing of key

Note: In case the customer does not bring the old key, then same will be disabled immediately after pairing the new key.

In case the same key is inserted again HIDI will display

In case the pairing failed HIDI will display the message:

# Check the Wire harness connection with vehicle and HIDI & Ignition switch condition “must me switch ON”. and try again.

To pair new CDI with vehicle: Select the Option “3” by pressing the 3 or Press ↑ or ↓ keys to browse through list

Select CDI pairing and press enter. On successful pairing, HIDI will display “ CDI pairing success”

If the pairing is failed, HIDI will display:

# Check the Wire harness connection with vehicle and HIDI & Ignition switch condition “must me switch ON” and try pairing process again.

To pair new Immobilizer with vehicle:

Replace Immobilizer

Pair both keys again with immobilizer (Refer Scenario- Key pairing process)

Pair CDI with Immobilizer (Refer scenario- CDI pairing process)

Note: Further malfunction can be detected by MIL (Malfunction indication light blinks)

• Mode 1 (Authorized key and CDI recognized):

LED goes off within 1 Sec, if following two conditions are met:

- Key authentication is successful

- Authentication is successful with CDI

# LED remains off, once engine is started.

• Mode 2 (Authorized Key but CDI not recognized):

LED remains ON for 10 sec as conditions indicated is not met (10 sec measured from ignition ON detection). After 10 sec, it starts blinking in 200 ms ON and 200 ms OFF time pattern.

• Mode 3 (Key not authorized):

LED remains ON for 10 sec if the specified condition not met

(10 sec measured from ignition ON detection).

After 10 sec, it starts blinking in 50 ms ON and 50 ms OFF time pattern.

• Mode 4 (Immobilizer not recognized):

LED remains ON for 10 sec if the specified condition not met

(10 sec measured from ignition ON detection). After 10 sec, it starts blinking with 1 sec ON and 4 sec OFF pattern.

Normal mode- MIL remain off, once engine is started

6.5 Battery Replacement

In case of quick discharge of battery is observed, please follow the below steps for battery replacement.

1. Open the back cover by removing 4 screws (as shown in Fig. 1)

2. Disconnect the battery by removing the 2 pin connector. (as shown in Fig. 2)

3. Remove the PCB by removing 6 screws (as shown in Fig. 2)

4. Replace the battery present in the battery compartment

5. Replace the PCB with 6 screws back in place.

6. Connect the battery connector.

7. Close the back cover and tighten the 4 screws.

6.6 Software Upgrade

When a new version of the software is available, follow the instructions below to upgrade the firmware of HIDI

Download the “HIDI Reflash Software tool. exe” Upgrade utility and the latest software file “HIDI_APPV1P0” from the portal (as shown below).

Open the “HIDI reflash softwaretool.exe” file which looks similar to the snap shot attached below.

Before clicking on “FLASH” button, please ensure that the HIDI is handled as below:

1. Connect the HIDI using USB cable to the PC

2. Connect charger to the HIDI

3. Make sure the Laptop is connected to AC charger to ensure the system does not go to Sleep / shutdown or Hibernate modes

4. Press “Software Upgrade” option from the HIDI main menu

5. Press Enter on HIDI after checking PC connectivity

6. DO NOT disturb the setup once the flashing process is started. Abrupt cancellation or disconnection can render the unit useless

WARRANTY DETAILS

Hero Integrated Diagnostic Instrument is developed by Delphi jointly with Unique Automation Pvt Ltd. All warranty and service support will be provided by Unique Automation Pvt. Ltd (UAPL). 1. General The products are warranted for the period of 12 months from the date of purchase and covers defects relating to workmanship and manufacturing that may occur during normal use. UAPL assumes no liability for peripherals submitted which were not parts of the original delivery.

2. Scope In the event of a defect covered by this warranty UAPL ensures the warranty repair or replacement of the UAPL Product. UAPL will make the decision between repair or replacement of equipment. To that extent UAPL may, at their own discretion, decide to replace a device submitted for warranty repair with a device of similar quality.

If it is found during repair or assessment that the defect concerned is not covered under warranty, UAPL reserves the right to invoice you for all reasonable costs incurred by UAPL. These costs will be in relation to the return of the product, including reasonable administration costs, plus reasonable costs for materials used and labour provided when repairing or replacing the product. This is subject to UAPL providing you with an estimate for carrying out such work prior to costs being incurred and that you have accepted the estimate.

Should any of the supplied goods have a defect, you have a claim for repair or replacement. The warranty covers material and labour costs for the repair of the UAPL device. The warranty can be invalidated if damage results from the addition of any hardware that is not produced or distributed by UAPL.

3. Exclusions Failures and damages to the device caused by external influences, accidental damage, misuse, changes made to the equipment, use of foreign parts, neglect, etc. are not covered by the warranty.

The warranty will be invalidated if the error on the device is caused by maintenance or repair carried out by someone other than UAPL or a service partner authorized by UAPL. The warranty will also be void if labels or serial numbers of the device or components are modified or illegible.
