Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet in Sheffield (UK) was once the home of a number ofmanufacturing businesses and was the largest water-powered industrial site on theRiver Sheaf, the river from which Sheffield’s name derived in the 12th Century.

T. Cooper Tools, who originated from 3 generations of toolmakers, formerly heldpremises at the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. When they changed theirWoodturning tool range from gloss to matt handles in the 1990’s, they named thenew brand “Hamlet” as a reminder of their previous home.

In 2006, the world-renowned hand-crafted tool manufacturer Henry Taylor (Tools)Ltd became the new home of Hamlet Craft Tools, and these competitively pricedWoodturning and Woodworking tools are still manufactured in Sheffield (UK) today.

1992T. Cooper Tools established itself as an edge tool

company – the latest constitution of the firm, emergingfrom 3 generations of toolmakers. Their premises were

based at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet.

1994Tom Cooper moved his business away fromAbbeydale Industrial Hamlet to new premiseson Beulah Road, in the north of Sheffield, UK.

1999A new tool brand was born. As the handleschanged from a gloss to a matt finish, the

name on the tools also changed to ‘Hamlet’ asa reminder of the company’s previous home.

2006Hamlet Craft Tools found an even newer home,staying in ‘The Steel City’, as it joined both theDiamic and Acorn brands to become part ofHenry Taylor (Tools) Ltd., moving again to thecurrent premises on Livesey Street.

2017Hamlet’s exclusive range of M42 High Speed Steelwoodturning gouges was developed, and this range

continues to be in high demand across the globe.
