Day 2 – Wednesday, 21 August 2019 Lima Enjoy breakfast, or a lie in if you need, before we gather for a site inspection of our hotel mid-morning. Then we head out to the neighborhood of Barranco, close by. We check out wonderful boutique hotel, Hotel B, and have lunch there.

The full afternoon takes in visits of the modern and historical parts of the starts in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, as well as the top sites of the Historical Center. including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca, a pre-Incan archaeological site right in central Lima. We stop at Plaza Mayor ("Main Square"), and there see the Government Palace and Archbishop's Palace, the City Hall and the old streets of Lima that saw the birth of the New World. The tour also includes a visit

to Santo Domingo Convent, an icon of colonial architecture and a World Heritage Site, which was completed in the late stages of the sixteenth century and has been recently restored. It has an ancient crypt (catacomb) where the relics of Peruvian saints such as Saint Rose of Lima and San Martin de Porres lie. We also include a stop at the Museo del Pisco (Pisco Museum), and learn about and taste the local Peruvian liquor.

Late afternoon takes us to the Larco Museum, an incomparable private collection of treasures from ancient Peru. This inspiring collection helps visitors to understand and enjoy more than five thousand years of Peruvian history. Dinner is at a nearby restaurant. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 3 – Thursday, 22 August 2019 Lima to Cusco onward to the Sacred Valley Early this morning we head to the airport for our flight from Lima over the Andes Mountains to Cusco, LATAM flight LA2123 9:07 10:34, and then onward to the impressive and historically and culturally significant Sacred Valley of the Incas.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas contains many famous and beautiful Inca ruins. Named the Sacred Valley because it contains some of the best land in the region, the area was actually not a part of the Inca Empire as such, but the property of the Emperor himself. What remains there today is so much color, vibrancy, authenticity, and options for activities that the area is an essential part of any Goway cultural journey to Peru.

We spend the day exploring the area. First with Chinchero - traditional Andean town is known as 'the birthplace of the rainbow', and it has the full complement of photogenic attractions: Inca ruins, Andean village houses, an elaborate colonial church built on Inca foundations. After a lunch at a local restaurant, we continue down to the impressive archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is a massive citadel located 50 kilometers from Machu Picchu. The citadel served as both a temple and a

Today you will pass through unspoiled and picturesque Andean communities on your way to the impressive Maras salt pools formed by water emerging from a lake inside the mountain in the Urubamba Valley. An amazing view is offered of the evaporating ponds used for the extraction of salt. Learn about ancestral techniques, which are still used, in agricultural, irrigation and salt-recollection tasks, as well as in Andean festivals and rites. Next it is a visit to the Incan agricultural experimental center of Moray, famous for its sunken amphitheater, made up of four circular terraces, which appear to fade away into the earth like

an artificial crater. The site was apparently an Inca agricultural research station filled with fertile earth and watered by a complex irrigation system, designed for experimenting with crops at various altitudes. You will continue onto Misminay community for a visit with some of the villagers. Engage in some of the activities available in the community, which help improve the environment and lifestyle of Misminay families. At the end, you will enjoy an exquisite lunch prepared by the members of the community with local ingredients. On the way back to the hotel in the afternoon we will stop for a site inspection of the Aranwa Sacred Valley hotel, another hotel on Goway’s preferred list. Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 5 – Saturday, 24 August 2019 Machu Picchu Today we board your train – early - for the ride

through the sacred valley of Urubamba to the "Lost

City of the Incas," Machu Picchu. To make the most

of your trip, we climb aboard the Inca Rail 360° Train

Service IR 61 (07:22am departure, 08:48am arrival,

subject to change) for unparalleled views. With its

Perched 8,200 feet above the valley, Machu Picchu was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until made famous by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Inca "Virgins of the Sun" took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here. After the tour, we return to the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, for an afternoon lunch at the Sumaq Hotel (https://www.machupicchuhotels-sumaq.com/). At the foot of the imposing mountains, surrounding Machu Picchu, by the banks of the Vilcanota River, stands Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel. As the only five-star hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes, it is architecturally-inspired by the enigmatic lost city of the Incas. The exquisite culinary creations of the hotel's restaurant are prepared with regional ingredients to provide for its guests the ultimate in Peruvian cuisine. After lunch if time allows, we stop at a hotel for a site inspection of the Sumaq Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
