performing in the School Hall.

Art Calendar Fundraiser
Earlier in the term our children have been busy working on their piece
of artwork for our annual Art Calendar Fundraiser.
Artwork is now available to view in the classroom or digitally on
Seesaw. Order forms have gone home with your children.
These are a great way to display your child’s artwork and make
excellent presents.

PaSifika Shared Lunch

A few weeks ago our Pasifika students celebrated Tongan Language Week with a
special Shared Lunch and special performances. The children learnt the popular Tongan Hymn - 'Eiki koe ofa a'au' and our girls
learnt a Tongan dance to the song 'Fakafiefia'. We were very fortunate to have Mele Latu perform a beautiful Tongan dance called a Tau'olunga in beautiful traditional
costume. Malo Aupito!

CHESS COMPETITION
Last Wednesday we hosted the Roskill Zone Chess competition. 67 players from 6 schools competed in two divisions. Hillsborough won the Year 4 and Under Division, with first place taken by Daniel Stewart, 2nd= to Hunter Po'e-Tofaeono and Naitik Sharma and 4th to Grayson Po'e-Tofaeono. But in the Year 5/6 Division... Hillsborough also won! 1st place was shared by Hamish Thomson, Connor Stewart and Abraham Chanwong, with Alan So just 1/2 a point behind. Well done to all those who competed. Every game helped the school achieve an outstanding result. Even our weakest player finished with two wins out of six.

A huge congratulations to all of our Walking School Bus kids and parents for winning a special visit from the Winter Wizard. Your perseverance through the wet and wild winter weather was well worthy of the magical visit. A special thank you must go to the parents who make our 4 Walking School Buses possible. They are Julia Wong, Michelle French, Nici Stirrup, Elizabeth Ryan, Kirsty Good, Andrijana Manic, Karina Wong, Kamlesh Nana, Marc Peretic-Wilson and Sonja Hansen-Knarhoi. Congratulations to our prizes winners from the lucky draw at our Walking School Bus Milo morning. Mrs Hodgson drew out 3 names: Leila Peric-Wilson won 2 movie tickets, Olivia Lin and Joshua Baker won Stationery and a sports bag.
SCOOTER SAFETY TRAINING
This week Rata syndicate and Room 5 has Scooter Safety Training with Joni and Matt from Auckland Transport.
They were shown how to wear their helmets correctly, how to use their brake
properly and also how to emergency brake. They were also reminded to watch out for those sneaky driveways and to always walk their scooters across the
road.
We are very thankful for the fun and valuable training given by Joni and Matt.

HILLSBOROUGH ZONE RUGBY ZONES
Last Tuesday we sent 3 teams to the Roskill Cluster Rugby Tournament, an Under 50kg team, a Rippa Rugby team and two of our boys competed in the Barbarians team. All of our teams played well and displayed excellent sportsmanship. Thank you to all the parents and Miss S and Miss P that supported on the day and transported children.
Tena koutou. Last week the Maori Whanau celebrated Maori Language Week with a shared lunch and some beautiful performances at our School Assembly. The girls performed a Poi Dance to 'Aue Rona' and the Boys performed the Ka Mate Haka. We are very proud of our tamariki. Tino Pai Whanau!
HILLSBOROUGH MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK
Soccer with Billy Harris Billy will run his soccer classes in term four on Wednesday mornings before school. Great for kids of all ages. Come and try it out. Holiday soccer - Billy's also running an indoor soccer camp in the first week of the holidays from 1-4 October at the ASB Stadium in Kohimarama. It runs from 9am-midday.
