John dropped us a line to let us know that the textured sandbags - a popular part of his piece - were from Wind Sword (www. windswordaccessories.com). One thing that did surprise us was the make up of the Flames Of War Platoon category. In previous years we typically see 90% of the entries being tank platoons, but this year, despite the show theme being Tanks, the entries were flipped, with 90% being infantry platoons. We’re not sure why. Entries were up slightly from last year, which was encouraging, and efforts will be doubled to attract more for 2018. In particular, we hope to see more entries in the Youth category, a traditionally light one. Congratulations to all those who entered and walked away with prizes. We’ll see you all in Lancaster at Historicon 2018! BEST OF SHOW Historicon 2017 saw Wargames Illustrated (represented by former US Editor Dave Taylor) run the Historicon Painting Competition for the fifth time. Something New... We were delighted to receive our first “flat” of the painting competition. Brian Robinette submitted this diorama based on a scene from The Duelists and even went so far as to paint the reverse side of the slightly embossed figures and scenery. Perhaps we’ll see more in the future?
