Thank you, Robert for the lovely birthday card.  I had a wonderful day, with all of my children being here or calling from wherever they were today.  I also have a new friend, Andrew who I met through the Elks Lodge in Smithtown, now that I have become an Elk also.  All in all, it was a great celebration. I also meet with at least 5 of my old HHS friends at Singleton's in Bethpage once a month, and that is really cool.  We love to reminisce about the good ole days at HHS.RegardsDorothy Kunz Drago 1950

Hi Bob,Thank you for the great birthday card.  Had the opportunity to play golf with my long time friend, Mike Cullen, Class of '65. (His 67th birthday is on August 30th, which is also my birthday). We then went and had a couple of beers.  We never thought that when we were sitting on the bicycle rack in the back parking lot of Mid Island Bowl in the 50's, that this was what we would be doing at 67.  We intend to do it a lot more times, though. I attached two pictures from my birthday party at my daughter Kelly's house.  The rst is me with the grand kids.  If you can notice it, the cupcakes have Marine Corps insignias on them and the paper wrapping is camouage.  They were made by my granddaughter, Kaitlyn.  The second is Giavanna and I standing in front of the sign she made for me.   It was a great day.  I totally enjoy being a grandfather.Again, thank you and everyone else for their cards, thoughts, and wishes.Semper Fi

I have read that you are on a quest for yearbooks.  I have in my possession two

1957 yearbooks.  I purchased one and my high school sweetheart, Alice Davidson class of 1959, who later became my wife,

purchased one also.  Sadly, Alice passed away in 2005 and is listed in the HixNews In Memoriam.  As a sophomore, Alice got to mingle and go with me

on dates with quite a few of the seniors and, in fact, became friends of some of the seniors; hence, she purchased a 1957 yearbook and had many seniors as well as sophomores sign it.HixNews is doing such a great job in keeping good memories alive that I am sure she would not object to letting me give it to you.  My personal feeling is that the three daughters that Alice and I have and the grandchildren that they gave us cannot and will not hold dear the memories that the yearbook has and it will end up discarded. So, if you are in need of a 1957 yearbook, let me know who and where to send it.  I will bear the cost of shipping, my pleasure.Pete Foster 1957

Pete I really appreciate the oer. We still have a strong contingent of 1957 alumi and it will be great to be able to scan pictures. Thanks again. Regards Bualo Bob CasaleBob,The yearbook is in the US Mail; let me know when it arrives.Pete Pete, Just received the yearbook. Thanks so much for sharing with me and the alumni from all classes. I can now scan some nice pictures. Thanks again. Bualo Bob Casale

I just retired from the Broward County Sheri's Oce. I was a supervisor of Intake and Inmate Property in the Main Jail in Fort Lauder-dale. I also

worked 30 years in the I Bio-Medical eld (pacemakers and hematology lab equipment). It's a pleasure to be free but I still don't know what to do with myself. A recent photo is attached. Thanks and take care.Gerard BairClass of 1961

Editor Note… We have access to several former teachers. I’m going to send a note to one of the people who are part of the school board and ask if there is a way to nd out about former teachers.

Hi Bob:I also read the newsletter; it brings back such great memories. As I mature in age, I appreciate more and more HHS, the time, the sports, dances and all the rest.  I think old memories keep us young. Good job.Fran DeCabia1960

Hello Bob,Nice to hear from you and hope you are doing well. Very much enjoyed the video and kept wishing to see a shot of Al Stippel. I often think back to the beginning of my visits to Liberty back on West John Street. I'll always appreciate the great help the people at Liberty have given me

over the years, the best when you were still here. Be well.Pete O'Malley

Editor note… It sure is a shame that Al passed away too early. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Bob,Just a quick note to let you know I haven't forgot-ten your suggestion of writing a brief story on our trip and including a few pictures.  With two of my grandkids here for a week right after we returned from Russia, I just didn't have the time to get this in before your normal deadline, which I believe you told me is around the 10th of each month, with the exception of the Memorial Update that I post close to the end of each month.Let me know your deadline for the October 1 issue and I'll make sure to have this to you before then.  With any luck, I'll get to it very soon!Joe Carfora 1962

Editor note… The cuto is the 10th of the month!

Why are their two Hix pages and what are the dierences???Thanks.Joe Milich 1968

Hi Joe,I assume you are asking about our associated Google groups: "HixNews" and "hixnews2". Together, these 2 groups comprise our email communication system with our membership. The dierence between them is that HixNews is a fully functioning email distri-

bution list, which is where most of our members are registered; whereas hixnews2 is a restricted email list for only the monthly mailings, which announce that the new Newsletter has been published online. When we established this system several years ago, there was a minority of our membership who chose to receive only the monthly announcements. We have an online FAQ that describes all of this in greater detail.BestHenry Lichtenstein (Keeper of the lists and more)

I noticed, too, that 1968 doesn't have any alumni Bios posted! How can I put one in?Joe Milich

Editor Note… I’m sending you a writeable bio page that you can ll out and send back to me at [email protected]

Page 11: Hix News 201410

Dear Editors,Can you help? When trying to open theNewsletter, It shows page 1 of whatever, but will not continue. What am I doing wrong?Kathryn Monnia Wol 1964

Kathryn,Try this: After clicking on "The Newsletter," you will notice on the bottom left of the page there is a "DOWNLOAD" icon. Simply click on that, which will download the entire newsletter to your computer in PDF format. It will then be much easier to open and read. Thanks for subscribing!Best,Elliot Gorlin1963

Bualo Bob sent out a document to the class of 1964 with pictures of those who will be

attending the Fifty Year Reunion on September 13th to the 15th. Below is a comment back from

Thanks for the visual. It helps, but what do we look like now, yikes. Guess we'll nd out in a couple of weeks. Thank for all u do for HHS Alumni. Looking forward to meeting you.PeaceSanto

Hi Bob,I'm trying to track down newspaper articles, police reports, etc., regarding the train accident which caused the death of Bruce Sollod on May 4, 1962. Keith Thomas, Jimmy Kansas and I were with Bruce at that time. Can you lead me to sources, links, etc., that might have information?Thank you.Dennis Listort 1964

Please let me know how I can post info for our 50th class reunion. Dan Carey 1967

Roger can post information onto a website that he creates from material and informa tion that you submit. I suggest that you check out the following sites that Roger has created... http://62.hixreunion.com http://63.hixreunion.com/ http://64.hixreunion.com/ And then we can move forward. Let me know. Bualo Bob Casale

Actually, Dan, hixreunion.com is the base web site and there are sub-domains, as Bob mentioned, for the individual years that have made use of our free site.  If you'd like to use it, please let me know and I'll get it set up.  If you have someone who is famil-iar with web editing, you're welcome to  do your own site, or send me the information as it becomes available and I'll take care of it.Roger Whitaker

I don't think I'll make it to the Fifty Year Reunion. Is there going to be any sort of "book" with bio's or such?   Jesse Treu

JesseYou can go to the website: http://64.hixreunion.com and click on alumni bios in the menu on the left. There are some there and I hope to get more. I will do a power point presentation after the reunion and post it to You Tube. It will include the following

Buf,I got a kick out of Steve Schaiman's remarks, in the September issue, about me and his bro, Jed, especially about me being "skinny".I recall weighing around 145 in my senior year at HHS (1959), which I guess qualied as "skinny". But in my freshman year at Cornell (1960), I actually lost 10 pounds, down to 135. That was denitely skinny for a guy 6'0". I stayed around 135 for several decades. Today, at age 72, I weigh a respectable 159 (and I'm still 6'0" tall).

Above is a recent pic my wife, Trish, took of me in Sonoma. I was admiring someone else's Ferrari; and I was wearing my Brooklyn Dodgers cap, of course. I think I had a baloney sandwich in the brown bag. BestHenry Lichtenstein 1959

Henry I was stationed at Skaggs Island in Sonoma from 1966 to 1969. That navy base is now closed. When Joyce and I got married back in July of 1966, we lived in Vallejo because base housing was not available. We did move to the base in 1967. I remember the many wine tasting tours in Napa and Sonoma when friends visited. Joyce and I did go together at times. Also remember the earthquake that was centered in San Pablo that rocked Skaggs Island. Oh, those memories. love da bu p.s. I was never skinny. Here's me when I was aboard the USS Liberty.

Jane RubensteinCrowned Ms. New York Senior America 2014

As many of you may know, Jane Sabatino Rubinstein, Class of 1970 (National Honor Society) is currently Ms New York Senior America. In October she will be a contestant running for Ms Senior America as the ocial representative of New York State Contestants from all states in the country will try for the title, so it's a fabulously competitive event. The National Pageant will be held October 26 through 30 at RESORTS CASINO HOTEL, Atlantic City, right on the boardwalk. If you knew Jane at HHS, or later, it just doesn't get any better than this.

Senior America, Inc. is a Non-Prot corporation designed not only to enrich the lives of seniors but also to tap their energy to enrich the lives of others. Through continuing education and community service, Senior America is there to encourage and support positive community activities through the Ms. Senior America Pageant, and other activities designed to promote the dignity and value of America's seniors. The gracious lady crowned Ms. New York Senior America (Currently Jane Rubinstein) then goes on to represent our state in the national pageant.

Do you really need a better excuse to take a few days at the Jersey Shore, than to be in a luxury resort cheering on one of Hicksville High's most remarkable women?

p.s. Great job with the August Issue.  And thanks for the article on Youth Haven; looked very professional.

BobI know you’re working on creating a memorial at the Junior High to honor those who served in the military during the Vietnam era. Both of my brothers served during that era. Jim McDonald was a submariner. Chuck McDonald was in the Coast Guard. He quit HHS at 16 to join and subsequently got a high school equivalency degree (GED). I don't remember if either served in combat zones. I’ve cc'd on this email to you and ask that you contact them. ThanksKathy McDonald Corey 1960 Editor note…I sent notes to both and await their reply.
