Small and medium enterprises (SMEs)play a significant role in the Hong

Kong economy. To assist andenhance their subsequentdevelopment, The Hong Kong

Management Association hasdeveloped the Special Award for SMEs which aimsto encourage their pursuit of total quality management.

ELIGIBILITY*All SMEs registered in Hong Kong under the BusinessRegistration Ordinance are eligible to apply for thisAward. SMEs are defined to be any industries andbusinesses which employ not more than 200 personsin Hong Kong and are not subsidaries of anothercorporation whose headquarters is based in HongKong. To enter this programme, the applicant mustnot have applied for the Quality Award in the sameyear.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONAwards will be presented to all participants whodemonstrate sound commitment to total qualitymanagement.

WRITTEN SUBMISSION

All applicants are required to submit a writtensubmission (Q & A format) for detailed assessment.Based on the information provided in the writtensubmission, the Examiners will determine a shortlistof applicants to participate in the site visit.

* The Award Secretariat reserves the right to makefinal and binding decisions on the eligibility ofapplicants.

THE HONG KONG MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION

INITIAL SUBMISSION

Applicants will be required to submit an Initial Submissionto summarize how their organization addresses theseven criteria in their quality programme in 1,600 wordsor less.

FINAL SUBMISSION

Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a FinalSubmission, in 50 pages or less, for detailedassessment. Based on the details provided in theFinal Submission, the Examiners will determine ashortlist of applicants to participate in the site visit.

The search for QUALITY has become the single mostimportant force leading to organizational success andgrowth in both regional and international markets . Theorganizations which will succeed are those that canmaintain a dedication to Quality in each and everyorganizational function.

First launched in 1991 by The Hong KongManagement Association to reward such dedication,the annual Quality Award has entered into its 18th year.

A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

The Award is the Association’s most prestigiousbusiness accolade. It is based on the renownedAmerican Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awardjudging criteria, and is the Hong Kong equivalent tothe Japanese Deming Prize and the European QualityAward.
