We’re excited to share with you our newest catalog, which displays our greatest achievements: mood-changing

dinnerware constructed for more than a century to enhance the tabletop experience of your customers. Over the

years, we have committed to continuous investment in technology, green production, genuine manufacturing, and

custom design. But more so, we are invested in people. These idea makers — at every level of our organization —

are the investment that makes our dinnerware better than any in the world.

Founded on the banks of the Ohio River in 1871, we began with the simple premise of making quality dinnerware

at a fair price. Business soon flourished and by the turn of the twentieth century, The Homer Laughlin China

Company® had expanded operations across the river to West Virginia, establishing the community of Newell to

support our vital workforce.

Operations continued to expand modestly until the 1936 introduction of our flagship brand, Fiesta®. As times

changed, families began turning to the fresh new look of the American Diner… and we took notice. Homer

Laughlin entered the foodservice market, providing high-quality tabletop service to a new generation of entrepre-

neurs, a legacy that HLC continues to fulfill as the last standing American pottery today.

Taking the helm at HLC was one of the high points of my life. As the first female president in our 142-year history,

I feel humbled by the honor of maintaining the traditions my family established over a century ago. The excellence

of our product is a source of great pride to all who participate in its creation, from our designers to our potters, and

everyone in between. At Homer Laughlin, we are a family in every sense of the word: family-run; a multi-genera-

tional family employer; and a maker of the highest-quality family of dinnerware. We would not have been able to

achieve so much without our skilled and dedicated workforce, which supports us every inch of the way.

We like to think of ourselves as one of the originators of the “source local first” philosophy. We seek local products,

local staff, and local services.

With more than 140 years of experience and extensive production capabilities, Homer Laughlin offers the broadest line of commercial dinnerware, with hundreds of patterns, dozens of distinguishing colors and 17 shapes, 11 of which are proprietary.

Homer Laughlin, one of two brothers who founded the company in 1871, laid the groundwork for generations of craftsmen still working the clay into dinnerware today.

Dinnerware Uses and Quantity Recommendations

What’s typical in terms of quantity when you are placing a dinnerware order? Based on your location and number of turns, there is a lot of variability, to be sure. But after more than a century of setting tables, we have a pretty good sense of averages. The recommendations below will help you select the right pieces and quantities. To get the quantity of each piece, multiply the number of seats times the ordering factor shown for each type of dining, then order the closest dozen quantity.

Building Your Part NumbersNobody can provide America’s foodservice tabletops with as vast a selection of colors and patterns as Homer Laughlin. We add these hues and unique art to our base collections to result in the most complete dinnerware offering on the planet. Once you have selected your items and the perfect pattern, then you can build your part number. In order to do that, you simply combine the item number with the pattern number.

DEFINITIONSItem — The individual piece of ware; i.e., dinner plate, bouillon, cup, etc.

Item Number — A three- or four-digit number signifying a particular item. The item will be listed underneath the image of the item, adjacent to the corresponding size and/or capacity. The item number will be the first three to four digits in the numerical sequence and will always be BOLD. For example: Pristine 9-5/8" dinner plate item number is 638XXX, with “XXX” representative of a pattern as yet to be specified.

Pattern — The decoration, color, or embossment.

Pattern Number — A sequence of one to five digits signifying a pattern. Pattern numbers will be listed in the pattern section that follows most of our collections. Pattern numbers will also be listed in the item spreads. Here, the pattern number will be next to the item number and NOT in bold.

Note that undecorated dinnerware is also considered a pattern and has a pattern number.

AVAILABLE IN 15 COLORS Fifteen bold colors complement each other beautifully and can be mixed-and-matched with other shapes. Fiesta® is festive and fun — and a conversation starter that makes meals memorable.

When it comes to perceived portion sizes, not all same-sized plates are equal. Plate design characteristics, such as plate color and rim design, create a perception illusion that can help you control portions. It has to do with the fact that a circle appears larger when surrounded by a slightly larger circle — consider a plate’s rim. Manipulating rim coloring and increasing the rim’s width highlights the outer circle and leads people to perceive the size of the inner circle as larger than it actually is, allowing for the perception of larger portion.

To Our CustomersTo continue to provide a safe, reusable product free of harmful materials.Homer Laughlin’s longstanding commitment to customers’ safety is exemplified by the removal of lead, beginning in 1986 with select pieces. Since 1992, the Homer Laughlin line has been completely lead free.

To Our Natural ResourcesTo vigilantly pursue innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint on the global landscape.By rerouting waste kiln heat to other processes, HLC eliminates the consumption of enough gasevery year to heat nearly 1,000 homes. We have also either modernized or removed poorly function-ing kilns and dryers to further reduce energy waste. We have implemented a clay reclamation system that blends back 14 tons of waste clay every day into our formulation process. Our made-in-the-USA products are identifiable by the fleur-de-lis on the bottom, ensuring not only top quality but also the reduced fuel usage and emission levels involved in transporting shipments from overseas.

To Our EnvironmentTo reduce or eliminate our resource consumption and recycle what we use. A 2006 upgrade of our wastewater treatment processes enabled the reclamation of an additional 1.2 million pounds of clear glaze, which previously would have been discarded. In 2007, we moved to eliminate unnecessary packaging cardboard, cutting our cardboard usage by 17 tons in just one year. Also in 2007, HLC recycled more than 100 tons of steel, cardboard, and glass, and also imple-mented a paperless order confirmation system that saves more than 500,000 sheets of paper per year. We recycle all waste cardboard, and any new material we purchase has a minimum of 39% recycled paper content. In 2008, we expanded our glaze reclamation project, emphasizing a reduc-tion of slip and glaze waste. Additionally, we have begun phasing out our custom foam packing system in favor of a more environmentally friendly air bubble system to protect product during transit and reduce the amount of foam waste by more than 24 TONS per year! For those items that do not meet our quality standards that cannot be sold or donated, Homer Laughlin has partnered with a local refinery to use as an aggregate in tabletops and countertops. Since this initiative began, more than 17 tons have already been removed from the HLC premises.
