On Saturday, February 25, 2012, our academic team competed at Stinnett Elementaryin the district academic competition. Our students did a great job, and we are proud ofeveryone that competed.Our Quick Recall Team placed first and did not lose a match. Members of the teamwere CaptainMakenzie Baker, Tyler Gregory, Makayla Cody, Cody Coots, KayleeOverbee, Cheyenne Banks, Randall Brock, and Cara Rose Smith.Our Future Problem Solving Team placed second. The members were Randall Brock,Makayla Cody, Emily Couch, Jacob Asher, and Brooklyn Clark.Makenzie Baker placed first in language arts and math.Makayla Cody placed third in Arts and Humanities. Other members of the academic

The UNITE Club voted to do a ServingSeniors drive to collect items to send to the
Hyden Manor Nursing Home for the residentsfor the month of March. The items we arecollecting are card games (playing cards, UNO,ROOK, etc.), toiletries for men and womensuch as body wash, lotions, soaps, shampooand conditioners, body sprays, word searchbooks, crossword puzzles, crayons andmarkers. Collection bins will be located in theUNITE Room. All items must be new and ingood condition. We are excited to be able toprovide a small service to the residents at the
Hyden Manor Nursing Home.

The girls and boys basketball season has ended.All the ball players worked very hard and had alot of fun. We would like to thank HobertCouch, Lori Wooton and Tina Thomas forcoaching the teams. The cheerleaders workedhard this season. Congratulations to the B teamcheerleading team for winning 2nd Place in thedistrict cheerleading competition. Thecheeleades would like to thank Dawn Mitchelland Lori Wooton and to all the team membersfor their hard work. The girls volleyball seasonstarted this week with a new coach, Nikki
Lewis. We are very excited to get started.

All 2nd4th graders are in invited toparticipate in the Leslie County YouthHoops League starting March 6thApril

at the Nixon Center. The goal is togive all of the youth of Leslie County theability to enjoy and be taught the game ofbasketball through fundamental drills and abalanced and diversified league. Theleague will run for 6 weeks with the firstweek of the league being a training campwere players will go through a number ofdrills allowing for evaluation of players forbalanced team assignments. This allows forparity among the teams giving each a greatchance of winning. After the first weekplayers will be assigned to fairly balancedteams and we will begin league play.League play will run 4 weeks and theschedule of games and amount of gamesplayed will depend on the amount of teamsin the league. Each team will have the sameamount of players and each player on eachteam will play the same amount. If a playerdoes not get to play the same amount onegame, a chart is kept to assure the nextgame the minutes are balanced. Onceleague play is over, seeding for thetournament will take place and the lastweek of the season will consist of a singleelimination tournament. Players will be
responsible for $12 to pay for team t-shirt.Players will be taught various aspects ofball handling, shooting, rules, passing andreceiving, transition offense\defense,moving and defense and rebounding.
